Saying that Franz Ferdinant is more tallented musically is BS. The beatles used technique that still is used today. They where the first to use it. Without the beatles i doubt there would be distortion as of today.

@danchaplin22 A mi me gustan ambas bandas, pero la calidad musicas e innovación de Beatles es muy superior, sobre todo con los discos Revolver, Sgt Pepper y Abbey Road. Por otro lado fueron mucho más que buena música. Fue toda una revolución cultural, influenció en la conducta popular de una forma pocas veces vista, pocas bandas o cantantes pueden ufanarse de eso (Elvis? Freddie?). Y ciertamente en la última década FF ha alcanzado solamente muy buena calidad musical. no ha dado el gran salto.

I love both bands, but this is not comparable. The Beatles Revolutionized music, and not to mention they are two totally different genres of music. Sorry but as much as I like them, Franz Ferdinand will never be the Beatles.
FF aren't "better" instrumentally, they are just a more instrumental band than The Beatles were. The Beatles based their compositions heavily on lyrics, while Franz Ferdinand bases it on melody, apparently. I'm not saying their lyrics are bad, but they aren't the best of their songs.
But I completely agree with you in the songwriting, the Fab Four are unbeatable at that.
Beatles were another times when they had to improve many things cause that things didn't exist before. Franz is more educated referring to musical quality, not that the fab 4 are bad but their learning was more empiric. Lennon is way much better songwritter than Alex and finally without the Beatles FF woudln0t be what they are today for god's sake in the songs you can feel the influence too much! just with more upbeat and post punk thing :P
maybe ff are "better" technically because the Beatles had the extra burden of INVENTING so much of what we still hear today, so they couldn't lean on old tried and true progressions and shit cause they were TRYIN them.

I think what Thirdalproductions was trying to say is that The Beatles obviously didn't make music nor did they invent rock and roll.. But the created music as we know it. For example, The Beatles created... - arena rock concerts - music videos - feedback on albums (I feel Fine) - expansive use of distortion - concept album (Sgt. Pepper) - expansive use of 12 string guitars - modern drum recording - backwards recording - first to use non traditional musical instruments ..etc...
That's actually wrong. The Beatles had more experience playing live during their days in Hamburg than most musicians have had in their entire careers.
These bands sound so different from each other that they should be (if not already) categorized in different genres. That said, I'm a super-fan of The Beatles, but Franz Ferdinand is quite awesome.
Oh, and by the way, people who are looking at it like: "Well gee, who rocks harder? Franz Ferdinand FTW LOL" are fucking retarded. The best Beatles stuff can't even be classified as rock in my opinion. Where the poster fails is that The Beatles strove for and accomplished was creative genius, not for mastery over their instruments.
They are different in some ways, but similar in others. Several of Franz Ferdinand's songs definitely sound Beatles-esque. For example, one critic stated that the new "Lucid Dreams" sounded like something the Beatles would make if they were still playing in the 21st century. Also, their four-man band and self-proclaimed simple sound is reminiscent of the Beatles, as well.
I'm having trouble seeing how FF is better instrumentally. Sure, they've got decent guitar skills, but George and Paul definitely had better skills. But, I've never liked FF, so I might be biased.
i agree. i absolutely adored ff's first album and loved their second. the new one is horribly moderate. And i think anyone will agree that the beatles are the giants on whose shoulders franz ferdinand is standing. Instrumentally, the beatles were an incredible band.
Paul is a pop-boy wonder and an instrumentalist (and a genious vocalist), john was a great guitarist and also a genious vocalist, and george was a master-guitarist AND he played the sitar! (hey). Beatles win overall. FF still rocks.

I say you can't put them to compete.
Beatles were another times when they had to improve many things cause that things didn't exist before. Franz is more educated referring to musical quality, not that the fab 4 are bad but their learning was more empiric. Lennon is way much better songwritter than Alex and finally without the Beatles FF woudln0t be what they are today for god's sake in the songs you can feel the influence too much! just with more upbeat and post punk thing :P

maybe ff are "better" technically because the Beatles had the extra burden of INVENTING so much of what we still hear today, so they couldn't lean on old tried and true progressions and shit cause they were TRYIN them.

Simply because The Beatles marked a time in music that other groups won´t make again.

(Talking as a someone who likes their music) FF are only mediocre as professional musicians and singers. The thing which makes them a good band is that they know how to be fun. Tonight was a disappointment though [smiley removed due to being to sad for human eyes]. I think they'll do better next time round.

These bands sound so different from each other that they should be (if not already) categorized in different genres. That said, I'm a super-fan of The Beatles, but Franz Ferdinand is quite awesome.

The best Beatles stuff can't even be classified as rock in my opinion. Where the poster fails is that The Beatles strove for and accomplished was creative genius, not for mastery over their instruments.

They are different in some ways, but similar in others. Several of Franz Ferdinand's songs definitely sound Beatles-esque. For example, one critic stated that the new "Lucid Dreams" sounded like something the Beatles would make if they were still playing in the 21st century. Also, their four-man band and self-proclaimed simple sound is reminiscent of the Beatles, as well.

I'm having trouble seeing how FF is better instrumentally. Sure, they've got decent guitar skills, but George and Paul definitely had better skills. But, I've never liked FF, so I might be biased.

i agree. i absolutely adored ff's first album and loved their second. the new one is horribly moderate. And i think anyone will agree that the beatles are the giants on whose shoulders franz ferdinand is standing. Instrumentally, the beatles were an incredible band.
Paul is a pop-boy wonder and an instrumentalist (and a genious vocalist), john was a great guitarist and also a genious vocalist, and george was a master-guitarist AND he played the sitar! (hey). Beatles win overall. FF still rocks.
