And the novel "I,Q", partially written by John de Lancie, explained that Q CREATED the Nexus as a plaything when he was a "child". It's kind of funny how the woman in the blue uniform behind them doesn't react at all to the incident. It has never been elaborated on and I've actually liked that and how mysterious she is.
