Thank you for posting this. I currently live in California and miss the northern New Hampshire falls. Not just the foliage which is spectacular, but the crisp Autumn mornings, pleasant afternoons and the long slanting light of the dusk.
Berlin does have a great potential in it's surrounding. But Berlin's best asset is it's people. Nicest folks I have met in all my travels. Hoping Berlin comes back strong
I wish i could access a whole Plethora of Berlin awesomeness haha because i mean it isnt the greatest now but i would kill to live here back in the day when it was truly booming.. do you know where i can get old pictures and documentaries and such??
I've heard people compare the Berlin accent to some Maine accents, but I have only ever known Berlin folks to have one of two accents. (1) The Anglophone accent you are asking about and (2) the Berlin French accent that is very close to the accents you hear when in Quebec.
How long did it run, and how far out of downtown Berlin did it reach? My girlfriend teaches in Berlin Public Schools and we have taken a really big interest in the local history. It's been fun the last two years exploring/learning about the area.
My husband took me to Berlin a couple years ago for his genealogy research and I simply charmed by Berlin! The lovely snow covered hills dotted by homes was a perfect Hallmark card view!
Berlin needs good publicity. Berlin has more potential than one can imagine, but the city is just dying. Since I baught a property downtown, just over three years ago, the downtown has lost 14 businesses. I can count them if you want, but start with colorworks, office....whatever, movietheater, NES, pet shop, the furniture store, does Bean Street count?, the laundromat (next to Supreme), David lee mountain arts, The Florist on Pleasant St (burned),
This is a documentary made for the Goyette Family Only, However we have discussed the possibility of showing it in Berlin publicly for anyone interested. There is a small buzz about the film among those aware of it. It has also been suggested we run it on Berlin public access TV. We have no plans for any of this at this time.
My family is from Berlin... My Grandfather was Romeo Charron... My Grandmother and many of thier children still live there..( Valliere, ST. Onge...) nice to see others love the place as much as I do...
If you like the Berlin clip, you're gonna LOVE this. Check this myspace web site. go to MySpace and search for 'LogJam'. There are several by that name, but only one for Berlin NH.
I would love to see it, I grew up in Berlin and was in love with Donald Goyette ( when I was 11,12 and 13) Susan was my best friend and of course Rich was still in diapers.
Proud to have been born in Berlin....it was a great place to grow up. Too bad it just isn't the same anymore.

I love the speaker's native NH accent. Is it called Down East in NH or is that just Maine?

It would be nice to see the rest of this short film sometime. The ski jump era and the sights of the town are really cool.
