Is it possible to remove the messaging app?

i have the android and i installed Handcent SMS

i got it because it's faster and i can set my signature..

but while i've had it .. i get double text messages from both apps

so i want to delete the messaging app. but can't seem to fiqure it out..

how is it possible to rename the file? it is still saying unable to rename or delete. I found someone saying the following but don't know how to do it? does it need development?

First,make sure the emulator is running.Then follow below steps:

1. go to tools directory in command

2. adb shell

3. cd /data/app

4. ls (It will display all the .apk installed in your emulator)

5. rm ***.apk(which you want to remove)

6. exit

@XrKhaos You have to root your phone to be able to remove those apps. The reason why is because they are loaded onto the root directory of the phone itself (not where other apps are stored) which is locked. The only way to gain access to those files is to root your phone (technically called gaining root access, rooting for short) and add ".bak" to them or delete them altogether.

If you're looking for customization, rooting is the way to go! Besides, developers make it easy for 90% of phones!
