This song is based on poetry by the sufi poet Bulleh Shah, who is revered in both, Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab. Junoon and Rabbi Shergill have both sung it in their own manner and style. There is no such thing as "liberal" or "conservative" in Islam. Either you follow the Quran and Sunnah, or you don't. :)

Sharia is prerequisite to Tassawwuf. Also, there is no such thing as "Sufism" in Islam either.

You cannot know anything about Tassawwuf if you do not know the Shariah. In Tassawwuf you must keep yourself clean and in Wudhu at all times. That you can only do if you know how to do proper Ghusl and Wudhu. The most important thing is that you MUST pray your Salat/Namaz.

Because if you don't understand the Reality and Being in terms of Islam, you will not understand what Sheikh Bullay Shah's message is. It will be only words to you that have no heavy meaning, like 'wood'.. etc. I hope you get my point. In this message, the the soul (rooh) and the body (jism) are arguing with each other, and each is telling the other that it is lost and must follow the other. I sincerely hope you understand the concept, because once you do it will BLOW you away. :)

@BOOyoonow on and of course you NEED to understand Punjabi, as it is spoken in Pakistan, not India. Because the Pakistani Punjabi reflects the meaning in a true way because it has many words that have their roots in Arabic.
