this is prolly my FAV song by Mariah. I am not a big fan of her LIVE voice all the time. But she s in really good voice on this performance. She sounds soulful and sexy yet so technically correct. GO Black girl! ; )

She had such a beautiful voice!!! ...but here it shows already her nodules...what's a pitty...that is the reason of her husky voice and why she doesn't do her famous whistle...
i felt that she didn't struggle that much b/c she didn't sing it with her trick techniques that i love ( the wispering ) i love when she does that but she didn't do it :-(
The 'whispering' that you are talking about is the thing i dislike the most of her singing. This performance is more natural and I like it very much ;-)

When I say peak, I mean music wise. Butterfly was an excellent album. I did not like the Emancipation of Mimi, I thought that was a bunch of commercialized crap and her worst album.
oh I meant vocal peak. Though I thought the Emancipation of Mimi was good, not her best. I liked Glitter despite all the bad reviews but her worst album in my opinion has to be Charmbracelet: the songs are so boring and vocally it looks like not a lot of effort was placed...some songs are good though.

I thought the Emancipation of Mimi was her Mariah's worst album. Charmbracelet had some good songs on it. TEOM was way to commercial for me and I really don't like Mariah Carey as much as I used to. I understand she has always been a commercial artist but still.
I think vocally EOM was a better album than Charmbracelet. Her vocal peak was from 1995 until her "breakdown". Glitter wasn't a bad album.. either lyrically or vocally.
EOM was a decent album, there was just too much crap going on in the songs.
I agree with you partially. I think some of the vocals on Charmbracelet were weak. But if you watch some of her live peformances of Through The Rain and My Saving Grace, they are far better than her live stuff for TEOM.
i think her peak was in 96, almost nothing beats that tour except her whistles weren't that strong. Glitter was vocally amazing, better than Rainbow, if you ask me, and CB was good, but she overused the whisper. EOM, for the most part vocally better than CB, but at least her performances from EOM were mainly live. I think she altered her voice in the studio for CB to hit those notes, those notes don't sound human.

Her voice started changing in 1997 with butterfly album, because she turned to techniques that are more damaging. Her whispery notes causes a stress to the vocal folds, and therefore degrades the quality of her voice. I doubt mariah has nodules but probably has polyps. If you notice her speaking voice it is hoarser, but I still think she is stop among many, I wouldn't risk removing anything because you risk losing voice.

her voice wasnt deteriorating. she can still sing during 2001. holiday season with trey singing ill be there. it was so beautiful like the original. i has something to do with rest and stress.

I think what we all have to think about is that whenever an artist sings "LIVE", they are NEVER EVER going to be just like the recording. LIVE is LIVE and therefore we have to take the rough with the smooth. Mariah is amazing. Keep going lady!

her peak was her at the tokyo dome performances. Its scary because her performances there are better than cd recordings.

When I say peak, I mean music wise. Butterfly was an excellent album. I did not like the Emancipation of Mimi, I thought that was a bunch of commercialized crap and her worst album.

oh I meant vocal peak. Though I thought the Emancipation of Mimi was good, not her best. I liked Glitter despite all the bad reviews but her worst album in my opinion has to be Charmbracelet: the songs are so boring and vocally it looks like not a lot of effort was placed...some songs are good though.

yea. This performance was surprisingly good vocally. I mea, weasn't 98 meant to be her bad vocal yr? I wonder if her voice is perhamently damaged or f it's just a change in style. Hopefully she gets her voice back.

I thought the Emancipation of Mimi was her Mariah's worst album. Charmbracelet had some good songs on it. TEOM was way to commercial for me and I really don't like Mariah Carey as much as I used to. I understand she has always been a commercial artist but still.

I think vocally EOM was a better album than Charmbracelet. Her vocal peak was from 1995 until her "breakdown". Glitter wasn't a bad album.. either lyrically or vocally.
EOM was a decent album, there was just too much crap going on in the songs.

I agree with you partially. I think some of the vocals on Charmbracelet were weak. But if you watch some of her live peformances of Through The Rain and My Saving Grace, they are far better than her live stuff for TEOM.

i think her peak was in 96, almost nothing beats that tour except her whistles weren't that strong. Glitter was vocally amazing, better than Rainbow, if you ask me, and CB was good, but she overused the whisper. EOM, for the most part vocally better than CB, but at least her performances from EOM were mainly live. I think she altered her voice in the studio for CB to hit those notes, those notes don't sound human.

AGREE,i only like 1 song DONT FORGET ABOUT US becoz it is very RnB and very Mariah,WeBelongTogether and other hits were only OK.
i love Charm album,very good inspiring songs and technically beautiful.I ALSO LOVE Charm Tours and Rainbow tours and 1998 ButterflyTokyoDome,very well done.

hi vuongsterboi,Mariahs voice changed AFTER HER BUTTERFLY WORLD TOUR,dunu why,maybe too much damaged done,even DivaLive1998 vh1 wasnt that good.BUT SHE PROMOTED her songs MyAll and Butterfly very very Fantastically well sung during SNL SaturdayNightLive Live TV Show,that was very very Best.i love her 1998TokyoDome entire concert,and at Hawaii she sung WHENEVER U CALL live.

AGREE,MARIAH TOKYO DOME LIVE BOTH 96 98 OR EVEN 1994 ALL WERE FANTASTIC I SAY 98 BEST BECOZ MY ALL AND HERO WERE SUNG VERY WELL AS DIFFICULT SONGS.96 has I DON WANA CRY which was only sung once but well done.

Her voice started changing in 1997 with butterfly album, because she turned to techniques that are more damaging. Her whispery notes causes a stress to the vocal folds, and therefore degrades the quality of her voice. I doubt mariah has nodules but probably has polyps. If you notice her speaking voice it is hoarser, but I still think she is stop among many, I wouldn't risk removing anything because you risk losing voice.
