This award winning animated short film was produced by the National Film Board of Canada and can be purchased at: triple w dot nfb.ca. The soundtrack is entirely original music. The songs "When the Day Breaks" and "Prairie Blue" were written by Wendy and Amanda with music composed by Judith Gruber-Stitzer. They can only be found on the film's soundtrack. They all team up again for their latest film "Wild Life" released in 2011 which won Best Canadian Film at the Ottawa Animation Festival.
I've loved this animation since the first time I saw it years ago. If anyone has any insight as to where I can get the soundtrack for listening purposes, I'd be very appreciative. Thank you.
Can someone take the time to stop and be so kind as to tell me the name of the song that has "where are you" in it? I would deeply appreciate it. Also if you can, the name of beginning song. That would be lovely. Merci.
Wonderful art. So much said without a word of dialogue. Such a nice story. I watched this with a nine year old and both of us could not take our eyes off of it. I can't believe after almost 4 years you have ONLY 105,000 views? It is really brilliant. Thanks for sharing this.
This animation is very deep. I had to stop and think about it after it was over. I guess the lesson in this is that everything is connected and bad things happen in life but life goes on. "When life gives you lemons," I wonder if that's what the lemons were supposed to represent...
Wasn't her fault. It was the fault of everything and everyone that has ever existed, because if it wasn't for that, nothing as such wouldn't have happened, ever.
... the whole of space-time and the living organism throughout are as endless, countless expanding layered spheres of intersecting energies- wavelengths where direction has no particular precedence. And they all are continually bursting in
the slow-motion of the vastness- as a soap-bubble appears on a high speed film in absolute slow motion... we exist in the matrix of matter formed within these burst 'bubbles' webs of blending energies-waves where consciousness and connectivity are in unison.
@ScholarlySquirrel I always thought that she should have talked to him after they bumped. I've always been told to always talk to old friends when you see them. If, in the short, the pig did, it could've saved his life. Afterall, you never know when people are going to die, so say something.
I love how it shows the regular routine of the morning and once it is broken, how we try to go right back into it as if there was no disturbance at all. Lovely short.
Two strangers, a cheerful pig and a rooster go out for groceries. The pig bumps into the rooster causing him to drop some items into road leading to him to be hit by a car. The pig fears that she may have killed him and she imagines all the circumstances that led to this (the rooster's life, the germs, the lemon). She runs home. Depressed now, she imagines the physical connections between people (drainpipes, power lines, radio signals). In the end she accepts this and continues her morning.
At the end is mr. pig not her. And I'm not sure that it's her imagination, it looks more like a comment from animators that shows how in someway we're all conected and sharing each others destinies even when we're not aware of it.
i disagree farellemoon this style of animation takes alot of effort and the end product is so very beautiful. not olny that but the concept of this movie is simply interesting
Rotoscoping is a talentless way to do animation. I was not impressed at all with this. Though the style of the animals, the shapes used to form them, is interesting it doesn't work with the traced over-filmed bodies of people and there are inconsistent moments where apparently it was just too much work to bother to illustrate over the film.
Over all the delivery of the story dragged on in many places.
No one can please everyone though. I'm glad to see many other people enjoyed it.
Rotoscopy isn't a talentless way to do animation, especially not on this case, considering how they went and changed the timing on each scenes, added images where needed and such. The animators put a lot of effort on their work, so think before posting.
If you didn't like the film, it's ok, but please don't insult the ones who worked on it by accusing them of taking shortcuts.
I hate it when i see still people think telling a story has to be a slavelabour animation process with everything done the old way....get a life........paint furniture if you want a busy day.....animation is not supposed to be easy or hard....it is supposed to deliver the story.....if you dont like the whole there is no reason to like the animation...if you like the whole there is no reason not to like the animation
Just brilliant. I remember seeing this film at an animation film festival years ago and haven't been able to get it out of my head ever since. It has such a great range of emotions! Stunning!
I love this quote by the animators from an Atom Films DVD:
"Your world view changes by trauma ... (you) realize that your community, your city is composed of vessels, wires, networks, and infrastructure that is very much like an organism ... but it is not that which defines a city but rather the inhabitants and how they relate to each other."
Their film now makes me think of 9/11 and how calamitous events inspire the best - or worst - in human nature ... and, of course, pig and chicken nature.
