I have a question.. Lets say you are right where the wave is going to break and it is coming across the horizon... A long boarder paddles to me from about 10-20 yards away. Who has the right of way? I mean, he did get up about a second before me but I clearly had been in the position to catch the wave. I dropped in and grabbed my rail to get down the wave before him but he beat me and ended up parallel next to me. White water ended up getting me. I got yelled at. What do you think?
I used to surf and live by WindNSea Beach in Lajolla and saw this gangly 14 yr old kid out surfing all the time. I'd like to say that he learned a few things from watching me surf :)

@jimboturner nice try insulting me but it doesn't mean anything coming from a kook such as yourself..and if you're trying to say Tudor is a better surfer than me.well that is true of 99% of surfers numbnuts.. and if I was riding my longboard and not my mid-length I would have been cross stepping..I trimmed once to make a flat section.big deal..watch a surf video every once in awhile and you'll see people do it all the time...
mate you might get pissed of with kooks but i get pissed of with people who think cos they're better they can drop in, i live on the gold coast and it happens allot, you said hes fed up of kooks, and i hate that attitude, we all had to learn somewhere, and no im not a beginner ive been surfing for nearly 15 years but it doesnt give me a free pass to snake,
@jimboturner I agree there is no excuse blatantly snaking or dropping in on someone who knows what they are doing.that said you and I both know that there are instances where the rules of etiquette are a little more fuzzy.if there is someone who is obviously a novice & is going to miss a wave.you go.if a guy constantly paddles inside of you in the line up.you go.if there is a guy out at a spot or in conditions that are beyond their ability & wipes out on every wave.you go. thats just how it is.
@jimboturner the whole "surfing etiquette" thing works a lot better if the waves are bigger and the spot is more dangerous than some beginner spot like Cardiff (being where Joel Tudor is from). It's when the waves are big that you have to worry about beginners getting in peoples' way and making the lineup dangerous and such.
@jimboturner oh.. just so you know.. snaking is when you paddle inside someone so it appears that they have dropped in on you.. what he did was either a fade or a burn.but I'm sure you'll learn these things as you learn how to become a better surfer. and as far me be on his list.it's highly unlikely as I have excellent positioning and wave selection. thats another thing you learn after surfing for a while. but don't be frustrated. if you keep at it one day you'll be able to catch good waves too
Great style indeed.Somehow peacefull as the sea.The tune is "Desafinado" by A.C.Jobim and Newton Mendonça.Don't know for sure if it is Stan Getz doing the impro...They have played together taugh!
surf with Joel at Cardiff, he's a great guy and a true modern day representative of logging. none of that tri-fin progressive shit.
