One of my favorites -- was just talking about this with a friend. Something that came up was, one reason people don't make games "like this" -- i.e., games that are weird and creative -- is because it is so much more of a risk. The resource cost for a new game (especially a new IP) is just absurd. 8-bit games could be cranked out, though: this meant lots of duds, but it also meant more interesting & creative risks. Like this!
I remember playing this game back in the day and I had a tough time understanding the game. I wish they had internet back them in order to see walkthroughs. Back in the 80's if you were stuck in a level and had no friends who had the same game, well, that's where you stayed:(
that is so true my friend i agree.this ws probably one of the best games from Sega.Just awesome : ),Midi music files sounded way much better in Sega games than on NES which was his top next comptitor during those old days when SEGA ruled the UNIVERSE OF US THE GAMERS : ).LONG LIFE SEGA!!!!!!!
@illDiology Yeah dude we used to do the same thing and we would all work together and remember the codes to get further. Even though these were single player we would always play together.

IDK I appreciate all video games modern video games. Are more realistic which give you almost real world experience I played zillion and all 80's games but non could adapt to real world. I played mx unleashed and figured out how to stoppie my real sport bike. Also Collin mcrae ps2 helped me hone my rally driving skills. games of the 80s were fun but could never do that.... it is evolving. its a good thing.
Wow, it's been so long since I've seen this game that I forgot it even existed until now. I used to play this all the time with my brother on his SMS. This was just one of many reasons why Sega was far superior to Nintendo in the eighties.
My father bought me Zillion for my 10th or 11th birthday. There isn't a year that goes by that I don't play it at least once. Granted now it is on an emulator ( The SMS and the game are still at moms:)
Pshhhhh. No way. I've played games from all the epochs of video games holmes, and some of the new stuff is evolution, but some of it 'aint'. Just because it's new doesn't make it better. All those fancy textures and shaders better be on something with soul. Polish a turd it's still a turd.
Substituting style for substance isn't evolving...it's DEvolving. Granted, some new games are damn good, but most are just very pretty and very hollow. Most of these old classics aren't exactly deep, but they all do one thing that most new titles just don't - they involve the player's imagination. That can spark a far more memorable experience in many cases.
friend turn on this game play it more then 10 minutes then come back. i played this game 15 years ago and i played it 1 hour ago. still don't understand how can this game be any good.
I still have this system and game it was so awesome. I tried playing later in life and found it boring. But still like it great music I always sing it and think where is that from...
I also loved it when I was younger. I picked it up again years later and still really enjoyed it, but I tried playing it from a speed run type of angle. Still very enjoyable, give it a whirl!
best thing about the game was you could shoot the canters open and come back for it later if you wanted or your get the health right there if you wanted
zillion was so greaT. the music still is.

I used to give strange names to the code symbols, to remember them better.
"Double Zero, Key, Tree", etc. Then as I got older, I realized most were just mirror image numbers. Then it was just "Zero, One, Three, Nine".
One of the best games ever, right here.
The sequel was pretty cool, too. Check that out if you haven't already.

So awesome. I can remember all of the pieces of paper I had scattered around my room with all of those codes scribbled on them! LOL

If I remember correctly the stages were randomly generated. It made for a lot of replay value back in the day.
lordfinbar 2 years ago
you mean the codes. yes the key codes where generated all the time. do you have this game if so why don't or your friend do a playthough
xxriccampbellaa 2 years ago
Sadly, you're wrong... for the 1st half of the game at least.
shenmuemasta 2 years ago
Hmm no the stages were the same every single time. Me and by brothers used to take turns running through them again and again.
