I found out about Larry's background he was part black , and he was in the group home because he said his foster-father was whipping him.Ironically, his foster-father is now blaming the group home and has said he didn't think his son was gay. The Newsweek article had a lot of good info in it, but it kinda made Lawrence out to be the bad guy.

I am 55 years old and I am from the southern US. I am crying my eyes out right now because I remember how it was to be a child in the southern US and not accepted as gay. My parents never understood and my friends didn't either. It took me years to just accept what I was. I now live in Canada and thankfully I am now finally accepted. When will the United States realize that we are real people? It is hard to realize that our country will not accept us.

I agree with you that this is an outrage for a country that is supposed to be based on freedom, but I think you are being too general about Asia. Singapore still has laws that threaten corporal punishment and imprisonment for homosexuality and China is reported to put gays in prison labor camps. Myanmar is no heaven for gay people and you won't find gay parades in Indonesia. I am only aware of Japan and Thailand as having much freedom for gays.
