150 certainly looks like the Royal Marines being overrun - if you want a more uplifting tune about the Falklands conflict try Sabaton's Back in Control
it's a bit of an easy target putting thatcher's mug up there after shots of dead squaddies. how about churchill reagan obama blair kennedy? ALL political leaders are warmongers. not just the female ones. you really believe thatcher decided all on her onesome to go to war? i'd bet keith joseph and many other backroom 'boys' had a hand in that particular decision
Well i hope the rumours around town are wrong as cameron held emergency talks regarding yesterday regarding the new possible Argentinian threat i pray we wont be ship building.
A terrible loss of young lives on both sides, RIP to the brave British and Argentinian soldiers who gave their lives in good faith for their countries.
Two Right-Wing, Power-Hungry Leaders.... thousands of ruined lives, and a wound which may never heal between two excelent nations. What a Fuck Up wars are!
thats Chet Baker on the flugelhorn.did it in 1 take i understand.wonderful.after this came out chet had a comeback and began to cover elvis' allmost blue tune.elvis loves chet baker and his father was a trumpet player as well
I'm not really one for lots of different versions and covers of songs but i love so many different versions of this song. The Robert Wyatt version is incredible and the swan arcade one is great too!
I am Argentinean, so this song kind of touches a nerve (although I was just a baby when the war happened). I just know that it was a terrible, terrible mistake and a waste of young and innocent lives. I must never happen again.
The song is amazing... for me more so this rendition with the trumpet solo and EC's singing style...
The montage itself just makes my heart so , sad... as do all pictures of war. All those sons of loving mothers, fathers... so many wasted lives... on both sides of the fence... and still it goes on, and on and on.
Yes, governments will always find money for war... but not for jobs and secure futures...
@chrssgreen I'm not sure Chris. I took the image from a site concerned with the history of the falklands...if you want more info post something to my channel..Steve
I think you did an EXCELLENT job with your slideshow. Great choice of photos. I love it that you included one of a smiling Mrs. Thatcher. That put me in mind of another of Elvis Costello's songs called "Tramp the Dirt Down, " which was "inspired" by Maggie and EC's feelings about her.
@karenhunter58 A picture of a smiling Maggie would be preferable to one of Leopoldo Galtieri. Maybe he could have been photographed with his death squad, Intelligence Battalion 601 chums. Would that have been acceptable to you?
@peterdcarter1 I don't know what you're jumping my case for. I just said that I liked it that the video's creator included a picture of a smiling Margaret Thatcher. Excuse the fuck out of me.
Im a welder at the shipyard in Newport News Va. The only jobs around here are in the shipyard so I am shipbuilding. We really should be diving for pearls!
@dfwardjr Count yourself lucky all your trade hasn't gone to the far east yet! Loosing heavy industry literally crippled Britain on the world stage. Many of the photo's in this vid. were of the Falklands war of 1982, we couldn't sustain the attrition of such a conflict again now, whilst concurrently providing assets for Op Ellamy, which is the 6 ships we have helping out in Libya at the moment. How sad? too fu**ing sad! Build one for us shipmate!
I searched for this because of Chet Baker. The images work so well; really sent a shiver down my spine. Thanks! Inspired me to buy the song from iTunes!
I heard a sub-standard cover of this on the radio today so just had to listen to this version to put things right. And as an added bonus you have added this great video - some poignant memories there. Well done.
