The undead can be a very powerful army if its not the the "Dark Power" gauge implemented on the expansion set. The 1st game in Heroes V you can endlessly raise skeleton archers from the wild mobs that you've slain in battle.

Necropolis is like Zerg, leave them too long alone and they WILL overwhelm you...A friend of mine always ends up with huuuuge ass armies because of that damn Portal to the netherworld, using it to convert living units =_=;;

When other factions caputers a town and it isnt their own faction...its kind of useless cept for generating gold. While Necro can just send those units to the portal....

Also FUCK homm 6's conflux...It keeps dissconnecting me mid game! >:C

@mengele47 You shouldn't think in terms of strongest/weakest faction. Every faction has its strengths and weaknesses and they all counter one another. An exemple: Dungeon is strong vs Sylvian but weak vs Academy. Sure their units are good but they lack in numbers which forces them to rely on their Heroes' spells to win battles. In other terms: if your hero's weak you're screwed.:S

Imagine facing an Academy hero that only uses counterspell, and on top of that he has magic mirror. xD

I adore necropolis in HoMM 5. It has awesome campaign (i'm in love with Markal and necromancer's philosophy) and awesome dark magic (i know i should not tie dark magic with necropolis, because dark magic is not made only for necromancers). Tactic is easy. Slow enemies, weaken them and then create thousands of skeletons from their corpses!... oh wait.... dark energy limitation. About a town: It is strange to say at least. Is it built on some kind of stone pillars or what? Music is decent.

I'm a bit disappointed with this theme song. I mean, it's really epic, but it should be a tad more scary. Because, well.. It's the Necromancer town. I love the Homm 3 necromancer theme - it's so much creepier.. This one is too "loud" so to say. It should have more "quiet" moments... I don't know if anyone understands what I mean but... Whatever. :D

one big part of the fun in homm 5 is the great look of things, it makes the game that you see good when heroes 3 had music right and sounds changes evrything. the games are so diffrent that we should not try to say that one is better, but i think that heroes 3 is the classic game and heroes 5 is the new one. i am just gonna say i really like both

The game should have been more polished around the edges, and there should've been a lot more maps, like in Heroes III. What I really liked about it was the skills-leading-to-abilities - system, that's cool! Good thing they added two more factions through the expansions. Nival Interactive did a great job, though it could've been better (Y)

Im honest, i didn't play HoMM 3 nor 4. I only played 2 and 5.

Ive watched alot of videos about part 1-4 and i must say, homm4 looks the worst to me, then homm3 its terrible how the units turn around and the attacks etc. homm2 is my favorite, maybe 5 will too, i just started playing homm5 some days ago

I disagree with people talking about the music. HoMM4 sucked. HoMM2 was ok for its time, but half the music and units are really cheesy. HoMM3 is by far the best in the series, gotta love the soundtrack and everything about the game really. HoMM5 has the second best music in my opinion, and you have to love how cool some of the units look.

I have just installed Heroes 2: Succession War...I'am listened for a while to the Necro town music...in both theme there is a short part in the middle that quite similar...now i find even more "interesting" those people, who said that the soundtracks of HoMM5 is bad. There is one certain melody at least that is based upon Heroes 2 and had been used in the soundtracks of HoMM5 in various presentation. :P :)

Check yourself, i found it heart warming. Listen for deepest part of the piano solo.

3DO was terrible too. Homm 2 and 3 were amazing because New World Computing had free reign to make them without so much pressure to do it fast and cheaply, Homm 4 lacks a lot of polish because of 3DO (who liked also piling out the Army men games at least 3 times a year) forced them to rush.

That being said, 4 wasn't a bad game and being the arguably most alien/worst game in a series of amazing games is still a good thing. To me, even the worst Homm game is better than the best of most games.
