Yes, they are both compatible with 1.3. The M3i Zero will work with any and future firmware (i.e. 1.3, 1.4..ect) since the bootstrap is updateable. You can tell if a card is 1.4 compatible by looking at the cards menu icon, firmware 1.4 blocks custom icons, so flash cards now use real game icons for the carts as a bypass. If a card supports 1.4 it will also work on the 1.3 firmware. The M3i Zero is recommended.

M3i Zero is a much better card, but it will cost around $10-15 more. You can find an R4i for as little as $7 shipped and many are not upgradeable, the ones that are I wouldnt put much faith in it. The R4 market is a cheap clone market.

I have an Acekard2i but it will not work on the new 1.4 update that is why I am getting the r4i gold the r4 gold and the EZFlash Vi are the only ones that work on the 1.4 update
