Stop hating on Turkey and it's people of today. Let's move forward shall we ??? One of my best friends is from Izmir and and I learned so much from him. I plan to visit him someday soon. I think some of us on this thread need to stop focusing on the past and be optomistic about what lies ahead. And just for the record, . Everyone I have met from Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir have all been quite intelligent. They are not ignorant in the least. They are very tollerable and nuturing people.

As someone who has lived in several different countries and lived in both Izmir and Milan, I believe that both cities were worthy for consideration. However, if I were making the decision it certainly would have been Izmir. But, when the discussion was taking place, I felt that only lip service was being paid to Izmir and that it never was seriously being considered. Unfortunate and sad that this beautiful, vibrant city was passed up as the host for 2015.

İzmie should have won for sure. Milano has hosted expo 2 times already. It is simply the politics. Other countries dont want Turkiye to become stronger and wealthier.

Why did they cancel the 1st round voting?? Is that because Izmir was leading??
