Generally its the same if you regard the history of flying. there were german pioneers too- but it were the wright brothers who managed to fly first.So its counts as an american invention,as it is the other way round with rocket tech.

Germany was outpaced in tanks by both the USA & USSR,best overall tank of ww2 was the Soviet T-34...1st tank with sloped armor, EXCELLENT cross country mobility, EXCELLENT reliability, good gun, and very easy to produce en masse. US Sherman was very reliable, easily mass produced, and could fire on the move but sadly against MkV pzers on up was outgunned &outarmored
