The songs/ballads back in that time actually told a story, unlike the crap these children make up today. I'm not that old, but I do remember listening to Marty Robbins when I was growing up. Amazingly, we can understand what he is saying, again, unlike the garbage on the radio today. It actually makes sense. I have no clue what some of the songs I listen to these days mean. Unfortunately, my kids sing the words to the songs, but I can only hope they have no idea what they are singing.
This is one of my favorite Marty Robbins tunes. Come to think of it, is there a single song on "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs" that isn't absolutely stellar? I think not.
@MrPasolica I could give you an angry reply but thats likely what a internet troll like yourself is looking for. Its not bad spelling, its called Patois and its what we speak in my country. I'm guessing your American....usually Americans are ignorant to other cultures outside their own. Perhaps you could learn to be a little less ignorant..unless sitting behind a computer belittling others is what floats your boat. Have a good Christmas even..hopefully Santa brings you some manners!!
@justkevy because shooting a basketball or throwing a football isn't anything like shooting a human being. people are cut out for different things, and many are not cut out to kill a man.
i had, awsome marty robbins, merle haggard and johnny cash on while playing BATTLEFIELD3 today, my mic was still on and some dude send a message to me with the title: NICE MUSIC.....
Like all gobshites, he mistakenly came to the conclusion that members of the opposite sex were scarce. If it was today, he'd be screwing instead of hanging.
Might even be a politician who didn't give a fuck who got screwed as long as he/she got a nice pension.
I Remember walking into a convenience store and tis poor lady was crying her eyes out because she had just herd of his passing on the radio Was an Amazing Man
sorry, but she had it coming, he he....Love this song, was on the first ever lp that I had in the mid seventies. The pink album with the gunslinger on it. Even when I was just 5 or 6, I played this to death but still love it. Along with big Iron and Master's call. My three faves. Thanx for posting!
People like Marty Robbins and The Statler Brothers will forever remain in American history. If you don't like this song, your obviously not an American.
this is the first time i have heard the original. i watched desertphile's a Capella, not sure if that is the right spelling, cover, and it was amazing. almost as good as this version, if not as good.
@TheKrazywhiteboy...... I think it's great that you appreciate the music of years gone by. They don't make music today like they did back then, so no, it's not weird, you just have a good ear for music!
i first heard this in Korea, back in 1972. My girlfriend had an album of his and i just fell in love with this song. now, nearly 40 years later i have begun to play and sing it on those rare occasions when i pick up my guitar. He was a great artist.
I will forever be thankful to my dad for exposing me to Marty Robbins and many others, most people I know can't sit back and listen to what incedible music this is they only listen to whatever crap is popular on the radio..
@rothhar My dad did the same thing! In fact, this past Father's Day I replaced his Gunfighters Ballads cd with a brand new one, since the old one was so scratched up it couldn't be played anymore. He loved it!
