Of all the 3 sagas, I've always been partial to The Masters (Southern Cross). It's always had a certain "weirdness" about it. Most people don't like this one of the 3 but it's been my favorite. I love the look of their Roman battle armour with the faceplates. I've always thought the hovertanks were cool because they don't look like ordinary tanks. This saga is so underrated. I'll be glad when a toy company FINALLY makes a GOOD hovertank toy to replace the crappy one from 1985. Go Dana! Go Bowie!

Just realizing...Dana Sterling may have influenced the Starbuck character from BSG's re-imagining. We already know Robotech must have had an influence on the show given that the series finale included a Daedalus style attack ;-)

So OK, let me get this straight: I'm supposed to immediately empathize with this snot-nosed brat Dana and her faggy little patrol as they fight off the Masters? This feels like a totally separate show... I just can't feel sympathy for them. Not to mention the mecha looks like shiny plastic toys fighting each other. In the original show, the mecha each almost had their own personalities, especially the Veritechs. This just... ugh. My favorite part was, unfortunately, the T&A.

It had the most primary characters (ensemble cast, really) and people seem to not realize the fact that females playing such a huge role in this series is something notable in and of itself. It showed a different, non-traditional style of leadership. The hatred for Dana's afro and hatred for this show I think are demonstrations of small-mindedness. And clearly, there are a lot of small minds...in other words, the "masses."

because out of all the main chars in the Macross Saga, those 2 were the only ones to have offspring, and skipping Sentinels, its a logical choice to use the ONLY char that was in Macross Saga, even if only as a baby, as the focal point for Masters....

@MDthornton83: yep they have. I think it's cheesy. I hate to say it but a lot of the "new" Harmony Gold for me has been kind of face-palmish in my humble opinion. I for one, did not like the new Robotech movie at all. And I'm a huge fan...it was heartbreaking to watch the Haydonites become another villain, to see some new Sterling child pop out of nowhere, clunky animation/computer mixing, and Vince Grant be emasculated all the time (a racial trope, actually). The whole thing just sucked...

There is a Robotech movie, in fact, there are a couple. Look up Robotech II: The Sentinels and Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles. Sentinels bridges the gap between The Macross Saga and The Masters, while Shadow Chronicles takes up where The New Generation leaves off. And Rick does return in both movies~
