Well, this is as original as it comes without artificially lowering the tempo, I guess. I didn't do the transfer from the original recording. Besides, lowering the tempo wouldn't necessarily produce the original. Who knows what media the recording was originally caught on, and what considerations the technicians had to make in the process on to a modern media.
Mr. Heifetz is supposed to start on the note G sharp. Yes, it's a wee bit higher here. Hope you enjoyed the poem:)
This was sped up artificially. Even Heifetz would never take this piece that fast. Plus you can hear the warbling tone. His vibrato is fast, but not THAT fast. Could we please get the original?
Such a haunting piece of music so typical of the! Debussy Genius ! ande so characteristically played by Heifetz with such emotion and sensitivity. It brings to mind the famous words of Edwin Stanton whilst looking at the dead body of Abraham Lincoln - having just been assassinated - " He Belongs to The Ages Now " equally Heifetz in the 20th Century and Paganini in the 19th Century ! belong to the ages ! genius Incarnate! T!!!
I too agree with the point about the honking woodwind! It's like Heifetz riding through the south of France on a warm summers evening..... inside Thomas the Tank Engine!!! lol
This Heifetz version is the most beautiful anyone can hear. It captures the mood and subtle mysteries, the almost other worldliness about it. So special!

Absolutely wonderful playing from Heifetz, but the periodic woodwind honks at the beginning and end just ruin the mood for me! :(
