While the majority of Americans want health care reform, they are against what has been proposed by the house and senate and more importantly they are against the cost. The fact is the American people are being sold a lie through this bill. Again, we all want health care reform but as much as we need affordable health care, we also need an affordable price tag for the bill.
None of the health care bills are subsidized by the government. They are all deficit neutral because those who join the public option arent getting free health care like in a single payer system (SPS), but instead pay premiums into the program.

Google "nixon wage price control oil embargo" you'll find it is a bit more complicted than you have stated and takes more space than allowed here to explain it.
The 500 character limit means that I have to keep things short. The wage and price controls were to try to stop inflation. They did this by blocking the cost information from making its way through the economy. The Viet Nam war had more to do with the problem than oil. The US had for years been destroying wealth with the war but had not payed for it. The oil exporting nations felt they were beinbg cheated by the US. There was some justification for this view.

Germany has a fairly complex health care system. They are not moving towards a system like we have here. They are making adjustments and fine tuning the system. They get better health care at about half the cost of US health care because they are willing to look at the results and fine tune. Here in the US we are 37th in the world but we just stick our heads in the sand.

If people have the public option then the number of uninsured that go to the E.R. will decrease(that SAVES money). Plus this bill doesn't only help the uninsured it also helps the insured by reforming the things in our current system that don't work. This reform will close loopholes, cut costs, and keep the Insurance Companies in check by giving them competition(this will keep insurance prices down). This bill would be cheaper than the system we have NOW.

Government is competition because it is a choice in this situation. You can either keep your old insurance or get the public option. The only way it could lead to a single payer system is if everybody chooses to switch to the public option. The only way that would happen is if private insurance companies DON'T do their job well. And when it comes to Canadians I don't know what you are talking about but when I was living there about 80% supported a public health system(they still do).

Canadians cross the border daily to use our health care system. Doctors and Nurses from Canada cross daily to work in our healthcare system. Why? Because 1. Canadian Healthcare sucks 2. They can make more money under our system than their own. Better conditions, better service for all.

The providers actually do useful stuff. The insurance companies only pass money back and forth. The entire cost of running an insurance company is overhead to the healthcare system. That is where about 25% of health care dollars go.
You're right, Nixon didn't do well with wage&price controls, but welfare and other subsidies to illegals are essentially a "wage control" for most Americans, and wage&price controls were an INTEGRAL part of the New Deal, which ended the Great Depression.

The fact that manufacturing jobs can be exported puts american workers in competition with those of every hell hole one earth. The government has be subsidizing the export of jobs.

Removing the bar aainst selling insurance across state lines will end up with there only being about 2 insurance companies for the whole nation and because of federal preemption, prevents states from regulating the insurance. It is one of the worst ideas ever put forward in the entire debate. It has been considered and rejected for very good reasons.

If you look at how France and Canada do health care you will see that the doctors etc are private. The government only does the insurance part. They have a free market for the providers like the US. The only real difference is the insurance industry. They pay far less for better care.
The way the bill is currently written, it's more control over the PATIENTS than over the health-care system.

I know at least one person who has left the US to get health care. There are people going to Mexico all the time for that purpose. I know of one who is in England and will remain there because her son is sick.
The US spends more on health care than lots of other places and ends up with worse care. Those other countries have the government involved but somehow in your opinion, americans are too stupid to be able to run such a government program.
I know 32 Canadians who will only be treated by American Doctors. They do not like to wait in line for medical treatement, so they cross the border for quality care. Public option will not lower costs because there is no incentive for the consumer to look for ways to save money. People with insurance go to the most expensive Dr, and Dr. charge the most they can because the money being spent is insurance's money. It has to be a way to put some of that money in your pocket for savings to occur. I dislike the insurances too but the public option is just not the right solution. It will become as unsustainable as social security, medicaid, medicare.
Public option will lower costs. How do I know this? Because every single government run healthcare system in the industrialized world spends a fraction of the cost on healthcare that america does. Even republicans are fretting that the public option will destroy HMO's They know that if offered the option of government care, the vast majority of people will go with it because it is better and cheaper. Healthcare costs in US are rising 3 times the rate of wages. And this is sustainable because?
The public option will force the insurance companies to reduce their overhead. 20% to 30% of what we think of as health care cost is the money sucked up by insurance companies. Other industrial nations have an overhead rate on health care of only a few percent. The US is the only one with a high rate.
The public option may only be a half measure but unlike the other option, it is at least a measure.
I dont see the connection between the lowering overhead cost and the public option. The other nations with lower overhead have a single payer system. Providers dont have to deal with 100 different insurances sytems. How would the public option lower their own overheads? Do you know that Medicaid and Medicare use(the evil) insurance companies to provide most administrative services(claims, payments,etc). Talk about overhead.
Right now the insurance companies have no incentive to lower the overhead costs because the collude to keep rates high and the overhead is their profits and paychecks.
With a public option they would at least be motivated to lower the overhead costs by having someone compete with them. If we could just standardize the forms etc, we could remove a lot of the extra cost of the providers. If there was one option with all electronic billing the others would have to follow.
Why pick on the insurances alone. They whole system is screwed up, doctors, drug companies, medical devices, medical software are all overcharging the system. What about them? They will continue having a blast public option or not. Using your argument, you will also be in favor of public hospitals(like the VA) and public drug companies, and public medical devices,etc that way everybody is competing with the government. Are you?
The insurance companies are the only part of the system that produces nothing useful. They are purely a middleman in the
path of the money. They are also part of the perverted incentive system.
If you look at places like France and Canada, you will see that the competition among the actual providers works. In England they have government run providers. The costs are not much lower. It is obvious that this part of the system does have a hope of working.

The 500 character limit means that I have to keep things short. The wage and price controls were to try to stop inflation. They did this by blocking the cost information from making its way through the economy. The Viet Nam war had more to do with the problem than oil. The US had for years been destroying wealth with the war but had not payed for it. The oil exporting nations felt they were beinbg cheated by the US. There was some justification for this view.

You aren't thinking about the wage and price controls and how they took what would have been and increase in the cost of energy and turned it into a huge mess. It prevented the information about what products had a high energy input from getting to the consumer. The result was that just flat insane things were done.
It was a combination of wage and price controls and the lowish interest rates that made a problem into a disaster.

Germany has a fairly complex health care system. They are not moving towards a system like we have here. They are making adjustments and fine tuning the system. They get better health care at about half the cost of US health care because they are willing to look at the results and fine tune. Here in the US we are 37th in the world but we just stick our heads in the sand.

You need to apologize for your claim that it was their time to die. One million deaths due to the lack of insurance is the fact. That you simply can't or more likely won't see it is an indication of just how far you are willing to go to justify your initial foolish statement.

Illness is a genetic weakness. We are all going 2 die, and the sick will go 1st. They were closer to their "time" than all others. If the illness didn't kill them, then it wasn't their time to die. I don't think those are put downs, those are facts. To compare it to the holocaust, where the government was in control of the outcome? Grayson recognized his mistake, and apologized for it. If you don't like America or it's healthcare, then you are free to go to any country that you choose, and follow their procedures. I suggest Switzerland!! In about 12 years, you will be eligible............... however, if you need to go to the ER, they will take you. Just like America does. SGT, You are partially correct. Our insurance premiums go up, to cover those who show up in the ER uninsured, as well. This is because we already are a caring nation, regardless of what BHO or the Dems say. Even IF the this health bill passes, in whatever form, we will STILL have people showing up in the ER who are uncovered!!!! This isn't going to save money, this will only COST more money. BHO is the biggest smoke and mirrors man ever, and he really has you fooled!!!! WAIT and SEE!!!!

If people have the public option then the number of uninsured that go to the E.R. will decrease(that SAVES money). Plus this bill doesn't only help the uninsured it also helps the insured by reforming the things in our current system that don't work. This reform will close loopholes, cut costs, and keep the Insurance Companies in check by giving them competition(this will keep insurance prices down). This bill would be cheaper than the system we have NOW.

Since when is Government competition????? NEVER!! Removing restrictions to sell across state lines WOULD BE competition. That will keep the costs competitive. There are 8 things that can be done without raising the deficit, however these politicians want nothing to do with it. John Mackey from Whole Foods had the right idea!!! However since he isn't a crook, aka politician, those ideas aren't being considered.

Government is competition because it is a choice in this situation. You can either keep your old insurance or get the public option. The only way it could lead to a single payer system is if everybody chooses to switch to the public option. The only way that would happen is if private insurance companies DON'T do their job well. And when it comes to Canadians I don't know what you are talking about but when I was living there about 80% supported a public health system(they still do).

Competition causes commercial firms to develop new products, services and technologies, which would give consumers greater selection and better products. The greater selection typically causes lower prices for the products, compared to what the price would be if there was no competition (monopoly) or little competition (oligopoly).

Why wouldn't Canadians be happy with their system they have a country to their south that pays about twice as much for lower quality health care. This doesn't make their system the best. Remember that The US rates 37th in the list so their are 36 better options than the one we have today.
For that matter, at what we pay, we could have the system from France plus the one from England. We could all have two family doctors.

Sadly, if you read the 3200 bill, there's a fine of $3500 (Why not make it $3200?) if you DO NOT get the Government program. More worrisome, however, are the four "tiers" of care--and that Congresspeople added an Amendment to it that would exempt them from the tender mercies of their healthcare bill!
If the goal is SOLELY to lower costs, why not put nationwide price-limits on procedures? Procedure X costs $Y AND NO MORE. I mean c'mon, $4 for an Aspirin? Someone's ripping someone off...

The last american president to do wage and price controls was Nixon. It didn't come out well.
The providers actually do useful stuff. The insurance companies only pass money back and forth. The entire cost of running an insurance company is overhead to the healthcare system. That is where about 25% of health care dollars go.

You're right, Nixon didn't do well with wage&price controls, but welfare and other subsidies to illegals are essentially a "wage control" for most Americans, and wage&price controls were an INTEGRAL part of the New Deal, which ended the Great Depression.
If you believe war ended the Great Depression, we're IN a war, and people are blaming that for DRAINING our economy, not stimulating it.
Although banks making loans to people who didn't deserve it, didn't exactly help, right?

Since the recovery from the Great Depression really started in 1934, it is hard to argue that WW-2 ended it. The growth in the economy after 1934 was fairly healthy it just started at such a low point that it never made it back up to the 1920s economy before 1941.
The fact that manufacturing jobs can be exported puts american workers in competition with those of every hell hole one earth. The government has be subsidizing the export of jobs.

Removing the bar aainst selling insurance across state lines will end up with there only being about 2 insurance companies for the whole nation and because of federal preemption, prevents states from regulating the insurance. It is one of the worst ideas ever put forward in the entire debate. It has been considered and rejected for very good reasons.

If you look at how France and Canada do health care you will see that the doctors etc are private. The government only does the insurance part. They have a free market for the providers like the US. The only real difference is the insurance industry. They pay far less for better care.

The way the bill is currently written, it's more control over the PATIENTS than over the health-care system.
Also, I attribute the collapse of the "wealth" to stock-manipulation and inflated figures to impress stockholders, and the general overlooking long-term gains in favor of short-term ones.
If they keep outsourcing, Americans aren't going to be able to afford ANYTHING.
But right now, fuel and food are more pressing costs than healthcare...With all this "cheap" labor, food should be FREE!

I know at least one person who has left the US to get health care. There are people going to Mexico all the time for that purpose. I know of one who is in England and will remain there because her son is sick.
The US spends more on health care than lots of other places and ends up with worse care. Those other countries have the government involved but somehow in your opinion, americans are too stupid to be able to run such a government program.

Public option will not lower costs because there is no incentive for the consumer to look for ways to save money. People with insurance go to the most expensive Dr, and Dr. charge the most they can because the money being spent is insurance's money. It has to be a way to put some of that money in your pocket for savings to occur. I dislike the insurances too but the public option is just not the right solution. It will become as unsustainable as social security, medicaid, medicare.

The public option will force the insurance companies to reduce their overhead. 20% to 30% of what we think of as health care cost is the money sucked up by insurance companies. Other industrial nations have an overhead rate on health care of only a few percent. The US is the only one with a high rate.
The public option may only be a half measure but unlike the other option, it is at least a measure.

I dont see the connection between the lowering overhead cost and the public option. The other nations with lower overhead have a single payer system. Providers dont have to deal with 100 different insurances sytems. How would the public option lower their own overheads? Do you know that Medicaid and Medicare use(the evil) insurance companies to provide most administrative services(claims, payments,etc). Talk about overhead.

Right now the insurance companies have no incentive to lower the overhead costs because the collude to keep rates high and the overhead is their profits and paychecks.
With a public option they would at least be motivated to lower the overhead costs by having someone compete with them. If we could just standardize the forms etc, we could remove a lot of the extra cost of the providers. If there was one option with all electronic billing the others would have to follow.

They will continue having a blast public option or not. Using your argument, you will also be in favor of public hospitals(like the VA) and public drug companies, and public medical devices,etc that way everybody is competing with the government. Are you?

The insurance companies are the only part of the system that produces nothing useful. They are purely a middleman in the
path of the money. They are also part of the perverted incentive system.
If you look at places like France and Canada, you will see that the competition among the actual providers works. In England they have government run providers. The costs are not much lower. It is obvious that this part of the system does have a hope of working.

Because of tax breaks for the wealthy and corporate welfare, the disparity between the haves and the have nots is greater now than any time in our history.
The real tragedy is even after it has become apparent the upper 1% plutocracy and their multinational corporations have stolen the wealth of the middle class, the Republicans continue to support it!
Medicare works for the elderly and it will work for everyone else too. We don't need preexisting blood sucking medical insurance companies.
