  • hank aaron is the best ever, hands down

  • great show you can buy the C/D on ebay and ESPN runs a Marathon on holidays.

the last time i checked bonds is the home run king [record holder]

and he did it after coca-cola removed the cocaine from it's drink!

i wonder what the other guy's numbers would be without all that blow in there systems?

  • This is just fantastic. Though I'm a Los Angeles native, I've only recently discovered the city's rich baseball history -- a lot of which took place at Wrigley Field in South Los Angeles where Home Run Derby was filmed. Since it's long been demolished, I've been relegated to not much more than photos of the ballpark, and it's great to see video of the place. Thanks for this!

  • why is the Dukes name spelt with a Y ?

  • my grandpa is the catcher!!

  • #OMG

  • god that d be so much fun

  • Fucking EPIC.

  • the steroid users today spit on the legacy of these two hall of famers!

  • who wins this

  • I used to love watching these old homerun derbies on ESPN Classic. I miss seeing them on there. Is there anywhere else I can still watch them?

  • @ManOfGod75 Good news for you, you can catch Home Run Derby reruns every morning at 9:30am EST on ESPN-Classic. BTW, I like watching it because it's like watching either a B&W classic on GSN or a Three Stooges short.

  • They shoulda called this show "Groundball, Foulball, Pop-up" Derby".

  • i wish i could have grew up watching these guys instead of the giant steroid freaks of my day.

  • this show is on espn classic... i get a kick out of this every time

  • "Does it have to go over the bleachers...?"

  • Happy Birthday, Hammerin' Hank. I just want you to know that in September of 1973 and 1974, I saw you at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium as a Boy Scout. Many happy returns.

  • That's because it's spelled SNIDER you dumb ass

  • It was an honest mistake. There are two spellings. Could have corrected me withought being so rude in your response. You don't make friends that way. So who looks like the dumb ass now?

  • @tdigiano ur the one calling pple stupid bastards.

  • now this is real baseball

  • hey

    can you upload the rest?

    thanks

  • $2,000? I could use that NOW!

  • "I hope i can whack out a couple and beat Aaron"

  • The good ol days where players just drank booze and used uppers.

  • who won?!

  • Aaron won this one 3-1

  • get the dvd's, there are three of them, 9 episodes on each!

  • Very interesting, thank you very much for posting this.

  • LOL...Just for the hell of it I would love to see this with todays guys with aluminum bats!!!!!

  • why did they to put the bases out?

  • because it would look stupid on tv if they didn't.

  • hey where can I find Part2 ?

  • the problemw/doing this today is- that today's MLB superstars are so wealthy, and so removed from the average working person, and lastly, so concerned about risking injury, that they would never do this.

  • blame George Steinbrenner... In 1972 Hank Arron made 200000 dollars and was the highest paid player... The Next year George came into baseball as the Yankees owner and for some reason got Catfish Hunter for 750000 dollars in 1975... If George Steinbrenner never owned the Yankees you wouldn't see players making even 5 million a year... Today hit about 25 homeruns and get a .280 BA and you get 18 million or more

  • Ummm I think you're forgetting Curt Flood, Marvin Miller, labor strikes, and the whole advent of free agency in your little rant there. God forbid these players make what the market offers them. They're the 700 best of their profession...they should be making more than what the owners were cheating them out of for 100 years.

  • @MikeTorrez83 Do you ever go to a game?Prices for a box seat at Yankee Stadium are about 100-200 times what they cost in 1958:$3.50.

  • 2 great Hall of Famers, and no steroids!

  • from old Wrigley field in Los Angeles, long gone

  • also babe played in bigger fields than hank but i do like hank aaron

  • this is how the homerun derby should be today, these rules are perfect

  • It's great to see the TRUE home run king again.

  • yeah it is

  • Hank won that season, didn't he?

  • lol... the pitcher is throwing it all fast... its like having to hit a real homerun at regular pace pitching... wow!!

  • It's amazing that they didn't sell tickets to this show. You'd think it would be better with a live audience in attendance.

  • is this real or just a re make

  • It's Real

  • I have a Hank Aaron Baseball Card

  • I will pay you $10000 for it.

  • umm no these guys dont suck there some of the greatses baseball players ever

  • Ahhh.. Good Ole baseball and the Real Home Run Hitter Of All Time : Hank Aaron

  • what ballpark was the home run derby series filmed at?

  • Wrigley Field in L.A.- the home of the original Los Angeles Angels of the old PCL and of the expansion Los Angeles Angels in their inaugural season of 1961

  • its spelled duke snider not snyder.

  • whoooo yea dodgers (sigh) im 13 and i wish baseball was like this today

  • I saw both of these ballplayers back when baseball was a 'game'....

These guy didn't make millions, but they enjoyed the game and each others competition...

  • come on man, baseball is still a game now. we have our issues in baseball, but i think its still a game. Just more bs to weed through. the whole rays story was great. florida marlins? yeah, its still a game and "back then" there were a lot of racist teams still in existance. ive read hank aarons book.

  • so very true, no invading advertisements no contract required just hit the ball and beat the other guy for a decent sum of money

  • Duke Snider Homered every 17.6 At Bats

  • You don't know crap about 'real' baseball , fool.

Ballplayers were 'men' back then.... and, they played the game clean.

Go back to your computer games, and grow up.

  • well i agree with everything but "clean" sure they were all steroid clean in this decade but they had some dirty tricks.

  • You suck. Jackass.

  • Snider: "This should show folks it's a lot harder to hit homeruns than think... especially when you're not a regular high-powered intake of steroids..."

Also notice how Duke calls Aaron "Henry," not "Hank." Interesting how you nearly always hear his fellow players call Aaron by his full first name. Cool.

  • Back then the pitchers were not that good as compared to today's standards also. If you go back to the babe days the pitchers were worn out and relief pitchers were virtually unheard of and their arms were dead and gave up a lot of late inning homers. this is how they dominated back in the day.

  • Pithchers were trained to build up their arm strength and pitch a lot more innings. There were definately a lot of complete gamesThey were far more durable than today's pitchers. They even played a lot of scheduled double headers. The game was definately for the fans and was much more affordable..

  • PITCH COUNT!....Blame it on today's stupid pitch count which says: "Yank a pitcher after he's thrown 100 pitches".

    Bullshit....I tell ya....bullshit!!!

  • By-the-way - It's DUKE "SNIDER" - not Snyder.

  • Its amazing back then, especially the 1950's, how small players were and still pounded them out of the park. Snider and Aaron werent very big guys. And even others, Ernie Banks was a string bean, and both Mantle and Killebrew were considerably short compared to the typical slugger. What a great era, I wish i couldve have grown up to watch baseball during this time

  • This is really cool, and I remember watching a bunch of these as a kid. That said, it would have been nice to see one of these two guys actually hit a home run in this video.

  • snyder is good

  • How bout the bleachers mark? Does it have to clear the bleachers for a homerun! Snider asked! Crazy question, funny!

Been funny if mark replied yeah it has to go 520 feet to get over the bleachers to be a homerun!

  • what year is this

  • 1959

  • I remember when Brooklyn had its own "DUKE"

  • to everyone that does not know who won it was.....hank aaron

  • hank aaron is the best

  • 1:41 - Boy, doesn't Passarella look like he strikes fear into them. *heh*

  • "One Out!" "One Away!" "Two Outs!" "Two Away!" "Three Outs!" I love that ump!!!

  • Is there some reason why you misspelled Duke Snider's last name?

  • its a private homerun derby??

  • who won?

  • hank aaron

  • Where is the rest?

  • Hank Aaron is the home run king bonds sucks

  • I once tried to collect every card from the year that this was broadcast(1960).And wouldnt you know i get 18 of the 19 players and i look everywhere for a '60 jensen, then find out HE DIDNT HAVE A CARD THAT YEAR!!A pretty good idea ruined, great show though.

  • @bppoop7 You said Bonds Sucks but, he broke the homerun record.

  • those truly were the good old days...wish i was around back then

  • Real ballplayers that look like... well ballplayers- notice no pants hanging below the cleats...love those uniforms especially the Screaming Brave shoulder patch... I remember watching this show when it was on "first run"...

  • This is real baseball with real players who love the game and when you turn their baseball card over they have the name of one ball club up and down the card. These were all my boyhood idols and they still are I just wish I would have keep all thier cards instead of putting them in my bike spokes.I showed this to my son and said look how polite and humble these players are they were the real deal.Bravo to the person who put these videos up it has brought back alot of memories.THANKS PAT

  • I have a ton of Home Run Derby broadcast. Some real blast from the past. I will upload some more. I am glad they are being enjoyed and bringing back memories.

  • This show was awesome, I can't imagine so many superstars doing this sort of thing today. They filmed it at the other Wrigley Field in Los Angeles, a ghost of the pacific coast league.

  • It's wonderful stuff, baseball history brought to life through the power of film (or video, or both!). Thanks so much: ---!

  • THIS is reality tv!!!...screw all that "real world" "survivor" bullshit....I'll take this anyday

  • I remember watching this as a little kid and then again when ESPN showed them in re-runs during their early years. Good stuff. Thanks for posting it!

  • Duke Snider, my favorite player of all time.

  • I can't believe this doesn't have more views
