  • I don't completely understand autism but I am a new researcher of this disorder. I know that God loves your son and doesn't want this disease to be torturing him and I know that God did not give this disease to your son because Jesus Christ dies for your son to have life! and life more abundantly! that means now on earth too! Pray always works for me because God is the Great Physician! I would repeat "In the name and authority of Jesus Christ, I command this to stop and may Gods peace come now

  • All these meds that I've heard mentioned in the videos such as Haldol, Lamictal, any anti-psychotics or seizure meds can cause very uncomfortable symptoms. They make you antsy, your muscles hurt and you can adapt restless leg/body feeling. I wondered throughout the videos if sometimes he's having withdrawals from stopping medications or possibly the above. I know what helped me, which is hot baths, a heating pad, massage/vibration. The best thing is just not taking those kind of meds.

  • Do you usually like the boxing cap on at night as prevention measures?

  • Get him off the pharmacueticals for a start to help him

  • Is he on a Gluten (Wheat) and Casein (dairy) free diet?..That will help alot

  • This is most likely Vaccine induced damage..Let me guess he changed after his 3rd round of shots around 18 months?..My son did too..Needs Biomedical teatment and no Big Pharma bullshit..Group homes are no good..They've probaby been drugging him and vaccinating more with swine flu shot etc magnifying his issues even more....its insane..Detoxify him, Clear his guts give good bacteria..Do lots of Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy..Forget mainstream docs..they are cluless. You need a very good DAN Doctor

  • I am high functioning autistic. Sometimes I am like him, but not for long periods. Usally during high stress or abuse, but sometimes out of no where. My world shrinks and I tend to focus on things - staring- then hitting myself or other self abuse. Once in that state it is hard to pull out of, I have to let it go through the cycle.

I don't know about your son, but for me - drugs make everything worse.

For me, I hear words, but they are not a direct route to my thinking mind.

    Bless your family

  • @cyclenut Interesting insight thank you.

  • @CDFoakley I've been watching your videos for quite some time as I was looking for people who were dealing with the same thing that I am with my son. I am amazed at your courage to deal with this everyday and you are honestly an inspiration for me to keep trying and pushing through the daily struggles I have with my autistic son. Thank you so much! Do you take part in any type of support group? I'd love to hear what kind of insight you have into this and any tips would be great:)

  • I'm shocked at the behaviour of drs & nurses in some of your posts & that they've left you struggling for so long with no answers for Jamey's physical pain. I've worked with people with autism, am studying for a degree in health & social care (I'm about to begin my 5th year), & I'm currently doing a course on autism. Have you tried anti-depressants like venlafaxine? The thing about that group of drugs is that they're also great for anxiety. Just a thought, it may help until you get answers.

  • @SuperMissblueeyes Effexor is actually a good drug but with autism and seizures it can lower seizure threshold. I considered re introducing effexor at lower dose if we couldn't get self abuse lowered. However, nicotine patch has been the best bet so far...we'll see.

  • @mdak91 Been there. Done that. He broke out of them. Unreal.

  • My 5yr old is a non-verbal Autistic, he is pretty happy kid, but when he is unhappy or frustrated he hits himself on the head, enough to then make himself cry. We try and work out what the cause of the unhappiness is which of course is hard, its kinda like when you have a baby, and have to guess based on what you know and you go is it hungry/tired/cold/hot/bored/thirsty/needs nappy changed? PECS has been a boon for us, giving him a language of sorts.

  • okay, this might sound horrible, but i don't mean it to be; maybe he would calm down with marijuana?

  • i might know but its just a guess.. im only mildy autistic but maybe its becos he has oversensitive stimuli like me.. sometimes if i here a little noise or if soemthing is different its too much and i have to cover my ears cover my face and hit me self to block out the input. because itss like having a severe migraine inside ur head and it wont go away.. its horrible. the only way u make it go is by doing something eg rocking handflapping or sib. to block it out. just my opinoin.

  • @CDFoakley,, have your tried weighted hats??

  • Take him off ALL of those fucking meds.

  • I know EXACTLY what she goes through. And until I seen this video I felt completely ALONE in this way of life. My son is 18 years old, does the self pain inflicting thing and yet some days he doesn't. I have him on NO medications what so ever. I don't believe in the long term use of them that they do any good, but more harm to their already 'senstive' systems. I do however give my son vitamin D3 which calms him down and helps him sleep many times, I also give him Calcium/Magnesium powder

  • I agree with Dr. Krigsman, or Dr. Bock or Dr. K in LA, Jenny McCarthy's biomed doctor. Biomed can help your son, you are right about his gut. You are right to be pissed for 17yrs of no answers. Biomed should give you some.

ps, lamictal just was studied and linked with seeping folate from the brain, maybe that is why he is hitting his head?

  • @prw3535 He was hitting himself way before we had him on Lamictal, but it's good to rule out all possibilities in this neverending puzzle! I still think it's all in the brain and gut....

  • @prw3535 I'm sure McCarthy's doctor is excellent and I agree with all that stuff, but it's hard to relate to her case. Her son appears very different than my son, and others with severe autism, as far as the behavioral issues go. But yes, I agree, with a lot of what she says regarding alternative ways to treat autism, as conventional methods seem largely ineffective for many autistics.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your videos! I have one question. Is he hitting himself because he wants to hurt himself or because he cannot help it?

  • Have you tried medicinal marijuana?? if not check out uf4a.org and get in touch with Mieko, ASAP.

  • Please contact Donna Pessin right away. She will be able to help your son. She specializes in healing the bowel, which is key to healing the body and brain. I don't know if I'm allowed to put a link here, but just Google her name, and her practice is called Unique Healing.

  • @MsBeth890 YES< YES. I agree. It seems many times our son has had his worst self injurious meltdowns, I can trace it back to impacted bowels or caregivers NOT feeding him what I've said to feed him and he gets constipated and sick. He's not this skinny right now. We've got his weight up with power purrees. But I am in TOTAL agreement that there is something going on with bowels in many autistic people that is causing a lot of pain.

  • My heart aches for you guys! Have you tried Autism One resources? I am sure you are just as diligent as I am with researching for my autistic son, and may have come across it, but they have some nutritional recommendations that have shown to help GI issues which in turn can help self-injurious behaviour. I know some people shake their heads at it, but as a Biochem major, I can say with confidence that if you "don't have the tools in the toolbox" you can't well make anything.

  • You might consider taking him to Dr. Arthur Krigsman in New York. He can treat his bowels and make him much more comfortable. My daughter was once self injurious. Treating her gut helped a LOT. We also addressed her abnormally high androgen levels with Lupron. That stopped the self injury.

  • Hey I got a doctor to help one time. I took him info about mercury in vaccines, and he printed me some reassuring bullshit from the american academy of pediatrics. Good thing I'd already read it cause the text ran off the edge of the printed sheets he handed me (ads were all perfectly intact, tho) and he never even noticed.

  • HI MY name is Wifredo I live in Brooklyn,NY, I have son than he is autistic he has 8 year old and not body one to really help like it has to be. For this kids,I don't really not about your case but i know than the Dr. they only one to give medication when they could dexentoxicate their body like in Costa Rica China my dreams is than a lot of parent should be united in Christ and help us to send our kids clean their body my gmail is poemwritter@gmail,com 347-444-1827

  • Is that wrestling headgear?

  • @billybobpeach Yes, the wrestling geat better protects his ears, while some of the boxing gear isn't so protective of ear area.

  • Americanautistic: he's NOT in a straight jacket. He's in protective restraints that stop him from slamming his fists into his head and causing tissue damage. We dont' leave them on too long, We are VERY careful about how long on. But sometimes it's necessary to temporarily restrain to protect him from severe bodily injury.

  • You have a heart of gold. I will keep you guys in my prayers! : )

  • CDC researcher Poul Thorsen, who famously headed up the "Denmark Study" that many claim disproved any link between autism and vaccines, has been indicted in Atlanta by a federal grand jury on charges of wire fraud, money laundering&defrauding research institutions of grant money.

Poul Thorson is a scientist who formerly worked for the CDC,&over the last several years,he oversaw millions of dollars in grant money that was used to conduct research to"prove"that vaccines have no link to autism

  • The U.S. Department of Justice has handed down an indictment against a former CDC scientist who led research studies that claimed to disprove any link between vaccines and autism.According to government documents, Dr. Poul Thorsen, one of the key researchers in "disproving" any link between vaccines and autism, allegedly defrauded the scientific research community of over one million dollars. • my 18 years old autistic son hits also his head very hard, his nose is looking bad......The nights are often really awful...I wish all good for your son.....

  • It's so sad to see your beautiful son have this horrible disorder called Autism, I hope they find a cure one day....

  • I'm glad he has a caring family. Sensory things seem probable. I bang my head when I can't feel where I am due to sensory issues. I hope you find a compassionate doctor.

  • Um, Why is he in a strait jacket, may I ask??

  • oh so thats why i see autistic kids with boxing protection gear on because theyre self injurous

  • @rhino2960 Some autistic kids may wear helmet because they slam heads into walls, pavement, etc..or/and have seizure issues, as well. Still others may wear protection for sensory related issues.

  • It's possible he has that and since he's non verbal he just can't tell you his ears are hurting. I have this and the constant ringing and the loud noises combined kills and when I have a meltdown i hit my head alot to because i'm trying to make it stop! Tinnitus is constant so maybe thats why. I don't know but I think its something worth looking into. I really hope it helps you guys out. also does he or could he have sensory intergration disorder?

  • HI, I've been watching your videos and you all are doing a great job! I have aspergers and am 15. I don't know if your son has hyperactue hearing or not I know he wears headphones but its possible he has something called hyperacusis. Its because of problems with sensory perception and causes normal sights, and sounds etc. to be painful. It's usually accompanied by tinnitus which is a constant ringing on the ears. They sort of go hand in hand. it will show up as normal hearing on a test.

  • Have you tried ABA therapy?

  • i know this is tough...i can completely relate to doctors pretending to spend time, investigate, and try to help...but a large majority don't...they take the easy way out and write an Rx...i hate to be blunt but you NEED to go to a top medical facility no matter where in the country and get a full and complete work up and have the top medical facility find you a doctor in your area who will colaborate with the medical facility and or specialist...BTW i woke up during my endoscopy with 10mg

  • @redsmooch989 Yep, OFF depakote as of last week, since, for the 3rd time, it was causing hyperammonia. However, depakote is a good seizure med for some people. It did bring better seizure control. Sadly, it sucks for the side effects, as in elevated ammonia levels that trigger extreme self abusive episodes.

  • @CDFoakley have u considered perhaps looking into homeopathic meds? maybe some supplements or accupressure? there has got to be a way to get into his mind and find out whats going on!

  • @redsmooch989 Yes, I agree. I've begggggeddd for SPECT scan and doctors working with him claim it won't help "change course of treatment," which I find ironic, given that's what SPECT does: it helps change treatment, since it gives doctors better picture of brain! In a case like this, where so many years of "guessing" which drugs work has been a miserable failure on doc's parts..you'd think they'd order the damn SPECT and analyze and synthesize what better course to take from results given!

  • @CDFoakley ALso do use homeopathic. One that seemed to bring some relief was something for leg cramps. I use it PRN (as needed) when he seems restless in legs. It's awesome stuff has quinine i think in it and other stuff I cant' remember...maybe I need some gingko.....haha

  • What happened to his ear? Did he hurt it punching himself or was it something else?

  • let Darwinism run its course, obvious it wants to die.

  • @ceilingshorts Sounds like you're a genetic mutation yourself pal. Perhaps your grandpappy was Hitler? Rock on.

  • @ceilingshorts fuck you thats her son! if this were your child you'd try everything! its not right to be so cruel! this is her child! Its very obvious that he is ill and sick and weak...but she cant help but to love him and try to help him! it shows how strong she is! you should be compassionate and at the very least quiet with your nasty comments. This is her son! god forbid you have a child one day that is sick or dying..see how much you hold onto him/her and pray for a cure.

  • @ceilingshorts dude why dont you shut up and go back to the toilet bowl you crawled out of, as a matter of fact dont, yer shit called and it says it doesnt want you back there again after yer last visit

  • Yeah it's interesting....although the other day I said to him he had two choices...and put out my hands for him to slap select. I said, want this now...then I hesitated ór want this later' - was ready to catch him - but he didn't do it. He selected later calmly. He is amazing. He's on new meds and seems alot more 'there' lately.....he does respond better to 'first you do this, then you have that"" or if we really can't do it today...we put the picture on another day (days of week chart)

  • you are a very amazing women! and your son is amazing aswell you love him and he knows it, thanks for sharing your videos, God Bless you

  • does your son get upset at all when he does this? Does he get upset about other things and show emotion (crying/tantrum)?

This is the side of Autism no one wants to talk about and confront...I see this was posted last year, any updates?

  • @c3neely Yes, I try to update at leat once a amonth....see other channel kgaccount.

  • I work at a residential private school in Pennslyania. We have children that live at the placement that definitely exhibit extreme cases of Self injurious behavior, but this is definitely an extreme case. I can think of maybe 1 child in the program that may be close to your sons level in terms of the severity of the SIB.

Its interesting, the child that I am referring to, he was visibly upset (crying, screaming) while doing it...and in this case, I havent watched all of the videos but..

  • How old is your son? I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time with your son's self abuse. I admire your commitment to caring for him no matter what. I have a son with autism and epilepsy but has no speech and no self injurious behavior. He is 37 and I have been caring for him alone with no outside help. By the grace of God we have a father for him who adopted him when he was 21 but he is gone most of the time trucking.

  • robinmanning23 first of all our kids didnt ask be autism why would you say if i would whined up like that your mom would kill you that isnt right... i dont think your mom would do that to you.... i have a adult child myself and she means the world to me.... dont be saying stuff like that on here its not right and its damn rude .... thank you and god bless you all

  • I feel so much for your family!! Your right drugs are not the answer:) But what do you do ?

  • May God give you strength. You are awesome, and your son gorgeous.

  • Because of your breasts I now take autism seriously.

  • @RobAlpharex

    hahaha you're a douche.

  • @RobAlpharex Well thanks Rob. Whatever brings awareness to autism and self injury, within reason of course.

  • @CDFoakley lol! The little guy I look after has a few triggers....the strangest one is the word 'later' - no matter what context the word later is used - he will punch himself in the head. The other day I made him his icecream and he put it in the freezer (apparently not wanting it yet) Silly me said 'that's okay honey - put it in there for later' and he squealed, his fist hovered over his head and then thump. I wonder what's happening in there - I think it's pain - but not as we know it.

  • @TheTracyPaul Wow, that is interesting! The autistic boy you look after hits hiimself when he hears word, "later." I think there are 3 possible reasons why: 1. he doesn't want to wait. 2. something negative happened and it involved hearing the word "later." 3. He is reminded by word, later, that he must wait, and uses the hitting to manipulate becaue he can't stand the thought of waiting. It's painful. My son has ZERO patience. They can't help it, other higher functioning can wait longer

  • @CDFoakley Sometimes I'm forced to tell my son "You have to wait." Sometimes it's okay, and other times that's not acceptable to him. After all, he is 14 years old. "No" will trigger headbanging if it's something he really wants. "Wait " seemed like a good alternative until he figured out that wait means no, for now at least. They don't always understand why we have to say no, they just know they are being deprived something they want. And they do not want much really.

  • you are a very amazing mother....

  • that guy is really messed up. i wonder what hes thinking? probably some really messed up thoughts. i bet if there was someone like this 100 years ago they would be considered insane. i bet he would walk around that house all day without getting bored

  • I have encountered an 18 year old with quite severe autism, and he does something similar on occasion. Although he does not his his own head quite as violently, he does other things like scratching the back of his head to the point where hair will no longer grow there.

I really dont know what the explanation is, but my instinct would say that your son seems depressed.. I really wish there was a way to understand though.

  • Although I don't have an autistic child, nor family member, for some reason I'm very interested in autism. In 'Carly's voice' she says she hits herself because she feels so much pressure through her body, she hits her head to release it like the pressure in soda. I will say prayers for him. my heart goes out to you.

  • Have you considered medical marijuana? Do some research into it, it has worked rather well for some families. It can normalize the gut, calm him, improve appetite, and reduce sensory sensitivity. Don't use the Sativas, as they are stimulating, the indicas are calming. I'll private message you some info.

  • god bless and give you strength what a beautiful boy you have being a mother of two autistics please keep your head up

  • Autism can lead from highly functioning to very severe. Personally, I have a mild form of Autism, Asperger's Syndrome. However, I feel fortunate that I am on the milder end of the spectrum.

  • id fucking ask my mom to kill me if i ever end up that way

  • @RobinManning23 UMMM. Robin, dear, I'm a bit confused. Your profile says you are a SCHOOL COUNSELOR? Please tell us you aren't counseling people to ask their moms to kill them. Maybe U said this out of frustration? I don't think U mean this. See other videos where same autistic person is happy, thriving. It's not always bad with autism. There are good days. Amazing moments.

  • @RobinManning23 ahaha bro same fucking cap me at birth that mom is hotttttttttttttttttt

  • Hang in there! I am a teacher for teens with autism. You are doing the right thing and are an incredible person. Autism is such a hard disorder to understand. Thank you for being such a wonderful patient mother to him.....these kids need people like you:)

  • Your doing the best a mother can do and just being there to help him and love him puts a smile on my face. This is a very sad video.

  • POOR BABY!!! =(

  • I believe that you are VERY correct. You are his mother. You know more than any doctor. It IS the digestive tract. You can heal it with diet. You are amazing!!!

  • I'm so sorry for this and all families with severely autistic kids... so sad.

  • Why do you let him live.

you can still make another baby.

  • @Bongores Are you REALLY that stupid or only pretending?

  • poor kid.

  • You're really hot!

  • These poor autistic children at Jamey's level are sadly difficult to control and are unable to stop hurting themselves. I feel so bad for your son. Living with such a condition is so sad! Seeing someone with such a condition is so sad!

    I am a 21-year old with asperger's syndrome. I'm so lucky I wasn't at his level!

You're still a great mother and soul caregiver. You do a very outstanding job. Good work! Best, WizardOfHumor1989

  • Jamey's mother is hot!

  • Poor kid.

  • Have u tried Megace ES for his loss of appetite? i'm sure he has been on numerous seizure medications, valproic acid( depakene), lamictal, dilantin, tegretol? some seizure meds r being used for the treatment of depression/headaches now. Any medications for his insomnia? hydroxyzine can help w/ anxiety and may help to relax and sleep.... just a few i can think of....i'm sure you've prob tried most of them. wish u the best in finding the right combination...

  • @imnotsmartbutimtryin Thanks for your comment. UR so right! Finding that perfect combination is the biggest challenge most parents of autistic children suffering with self injury struggle to find. It must be a perfect balance and that's tough to do. Hopefully, we'll find it!!!

  • These poor children with autism at Jamey's level are sadly difficult to control and cannot stop themselves from hurting themselves. It is really really sad to see these people suffer from such condition. You are a great mother and soul caregiver to your son and still do a wonderful outstanding job.

I am a 21-year old with Aspergers' Syndrome and BOY! I am glad I don't have a self-injurious condition like your son!

  • I Just want to let you know that you guys are doing a great job! i worked at a middle school as a para and my student was a severe autistic little girl and i got so attached!...I am sorry that you dont know what is going on with him... Nobody knows whats your going through unless they have seen there child go through this...and by the way you are a beautiful woman who cares about a damn shirt right? lol HANG IN THERE!

  • Thank you

  • Watch all the videos, he's already on it. The diet does not cure autism like Jenny McCarthy would like to advertise.

  • this family is so strong!!! keep it up!! i look up to you!

  • Put a shirt on!

  • Sorry, Mr. Scary....I'll make sure that next time it's 99 degrees in the summer night and my son's beating himself in the head with his fists, that I pause, and consider the fact I need to put a shirt on....I'll get right on that

  • @CDFoakley Caring for an autistic you were lucky to even have anything on!!! Time and priorities are different when dealing with this!! Hang in there! And ingnore rude ignorant people!

  • @CDFoakley It would be nice if you had a shirt on but you're right your son is WAY more important. I wouldn't have bothered putting a shirt on either :) I'll be praying for your son. He's a cutie! You're a very strong women with a big heart. I hope you find the right combo of meds for him. Maybe someday things will be better for you guys. Jamey is very lucky to have a mother like you! :)

  • @kylexysbiggestfan stop being so tight. whats wrong with not wearing a shirt?

  • @CDFoakley Some people don`t understand what you go through on a daily basis

  • @MrScaryRoad at least shes not ugly or fat

  • I am a adult with Aspergers and I have cut on myself when really overwhelmed but I have two autistic girls one moderately and does stuff like Jaime it could be because of his lack of verbal to express himself, I was told of two certain drugs none you mentioned to treat self-injurious behavior I wanted to try myself.

  • Thank you for your comment and being so open about what you've gone through...recently I started giving Jamey Cod Liver Oil and 5-Htp and for the past three weeks, his self injury has dramatically decreased, however, I don't want to get all excited about this, as I've been down this road before and just when I get my hopes up, it all comes crashing down, so we'll see..5-htp elevates serotonin, which is strange, since when he took prozac in past, it elevated the sib. ...go figure..

  • how long has he been non verbal

  • My son does this too but waaay less now that he is on chelation- with Alpha Lipoic Acid and DMSA every 3 hrs for 3 days every 2 wks we have only done 3 cycles and he can't be considered severely mentally retarded anymore, I'm not sure if it is good for older children, but it's working for my mother who had a flu shot and started showing signs of dimentia at 50.

  • I have said time and time again,, my child should be in hospital for a period of time for observations , tests, scans investigations and treatment.. to try and get the reason for it.. its numerous outpatient appointments.. or emergency addmissions for infections from savage self injury.. though April is 9 so not been doing this as long as you.. oh Jamie,,what a great mum you have darling xx xx

  • April tried riseradol,, they made her fit like behaivours worse, and shortly afterwards she would come over all emotional.. spat it out so rebounded as well. I agree with everything you say.. I've said it nearly all, except we havent got through all the drugs, they tried anti-depressants, she spat out.. so non-starter.. endiscopy and a coloniscopy as well under anesthetic, biopsies were normal. everything they seen was normal, small part of bowel intestines they couldnt see was still impacted..

  • i have been on alot of the same meds, im surprised hes losing weight on risperadol, i gained lots of weight from that nd got very ill. it rlly did nothing for me but weight gain nd i was always in a daze nd jus couldnt function. good luckk tho.

  • contact me i might be able to help same problem with my son
