@liuzhen2006 HE is probally focusing more on getting the notes right, than pouring his heart out into the piano. When he plays on stage thats when the emotion just spills out
@liuzhen2006 when you sit infront of audience, you feel so inspired, the facial expression is sooo natural. well for me anyways. I didnt even know how fake/ridiculous i looked until i saw my self play on vid camera few yrs ago
@liuzhen2006 Not at all. If you watch Kissing practice la campanella you see the same thing. There are different kinds of practices....He's obviously practicing technique, you dont need any emotion for technique. Eigther that or he's warming up. And whether the facial expressions are for show or not, he still plays beautifully.
there is a certain energy that you feel when playing in front of people that cannot be felt in the practice room. When I perform, i feel a wave of emotions that i do not feel when i am playing alone. Sharing the beauty of the music with others is the greatest joy of music.
You can either put yourself into the zone and become the music, or not. Maybe he just wasn't fully absorbed into the piece during practice. I certainly don't throw full emotion into a piece while practicing.
Watching him get a note off during the arpeggios at the end of grande polonaise is testament to how hard it is to master these songs. If modern musicians had any clue at all...
Its not that unusual to make a small mistake now and then for these Great pianists :) I think it was Rubinstein that said he always made 1 or 2 note-mistakes during a concert! :)
@callenishss u do realize that was a practice session before the real thing right? You can do a million things right or wrong just to experiment when practicing behind closed doors.
yundi li can kick chuck norris's ass any day and you all know it.

A serious spirit and musical purpose in his playing, a beautiful piece and in interpretation.
