Many legal battles and many years latterfor these guys...,Today I look in my local gig guide and see these guys playing at a nearby club. I had to check and see that it was still 2011, yep it is - $30 for a ticket, but I gotta go !
This song is so much an explanation of my life.... I have been listening to it since it's release in '82, and it still raises the hair on the back of my neck...! Thanks for posting this vid...
Thanks for posting this. I'm positive this song was taken from a gig that was shown on Nightmoves. I've thought about that show a lot over the years and wished I'd had a VHS then as I remember being knocked out by how good they'd been live. My memory was that pretty much all the Days album was played and some songs that were on the second album were also included. Be nice if it got officially released one day.
There are times when every single one of us wish for a "little more". We've all been the little people or at least experiencing the "it isn't fair" part as well. That being said, this song can never die. It quite literally should tap into your own personal struggle(s) & thusly, pertains to, if not all - - the vast majority of the people on this planet. Top that for being timeless. Hell, you can't sing it yourself & NOT feel the angst, pain & even furvor come to the top. SING IT!

@kattstoy He was down at Dee Why RSL in Sydney last night with the rest of Moving Pictures. Man, still as good as the old days. You are right, it was a better time for music, they were real musicians. And for those under 30, this is what local pub gigs used to be like in the 70s and 80s.
Australian Idol? He would kick arse on the X-Factor over here in the UK! This is the first time I've heard this being sung live. What a refreshing change to hear a band play and sing equal to if not better than the record. Artists today have alot to live up to. Can't think of a word to describe how good this is. :)
curetril, sadly i dont think Kyle would see the effort that Alex Smith has put into the song, either live or in the film clip. Dicko perhaps might appreciate it, but sadly Australian Idiot (Sorry - Australian "Idol") is NOT about creating real pop stars. Back in the era of all this great music, reailty tv was a show done live, not in the same meaning as today. :(
This is, indeed, the version MTV used to play, back in the day when they actually played music. It was my introduction to Moving Pictures, and I've been a fan, ever since. Alex Smith's vocal range is phenomenal, and the sound of this band, live, is amazing! Kudos to the sound and production crew for catching, pretty much, every nuance of this song...the timpani were missed, but that fretless bass still sounds great! This version will always be the version I know and love...thanks for posting!
Well, I tell ya I have this on betamax and loved it ! Haven't seen or heard this since I went online and a friend suggested you tube and lo and behold, here it is. It's in the faves and evokes memories of a good period of my life and everytime I play it, it brings tears even though it's not from my neck of the woods.
I have been lookin' for this video since the early 80's I have it recorded on a tape and have not seen this since then. I like this version better then the lp version.
Wow! The tone and phrasing of the vocals, and the separate focus on the various instruments (especially the synth strings), make this live version really exceptional.
I was in Australia at 1996, and this was my first time that I've heard this song... since this time I'll never get it out of my head, and now 12 Jears later I have a german version of this song with an original Synfonie Orchestra from Austria it called "was ist mit mir?".... Thank you Garry Frost
This song is dear to my heart as its the song that represents my first love and the girl who took my virginity at 15 ,in1983... her name was Bonnie lynn Gill from willoughby ,ohio ,1017 garden rd. my dudes Gary allen Smith and his cousin Rob "ski" were a big part of my life when Bonnie and i met jan-13 th,1983.
god!!! still love this song..they only played it like 3 times on Mtv..in like Oct '82..i bought the lp the next day in a local drug store..i still have it..miss these days!!..peace...Bill Mc
WOW! about the same time it popped into mine too!!!!! I thought I fell asleep on a rerun of CBS COLD CASE which is a show that drags up old songs in super dramatic mostly SAD scenarios. CBS is a network in the USA the reruns are on TNT in the overnights, I keep the TV on and I think one of the epis had this song. Because now I know I'm not the only one!!!!!! Thanks prev poster!
This song popped in my head for no reason this past week. I had not heard it in years, but figured I could find it here. Wow...never heard them live. Alex Smith the singer has a powerful voice. Rare to to hear that vocal range live. Awesome performance.
The sign of a great singer: singing all the high notes perfect like he does in the recording. No going down several notes haha! No studio magic! This man has some serious voice.
Is this the same video they used for the release of the song in the US in the late 80's? I swear theres an alternate video MTV played to the AUS one from 1982 but maybe im wrong. Form what i remember it had alot of graphics. I wish someone could confirm it for me.
