2-D and 3-D don't really mix well anime was going in a really good direction examples : Ninja scroll, Akira, Ghost in Shell etc. now its like every fucking anime has some Stupid ass Emo kid in it with CG computer shit..

Yeah, but it's a thing that have to be pulled off PERFECTLY. Otherwise it'll drag the entire series down into the uncanny valley, just like this series.

Perfectly is a bit strong, but yes, its uncommon, especially since its used as a way to reduce cost. Typically when you cut corners the quality is reduced. If that wasn't the case, why not always use that method. There are also some times where its appropriate. Zegapain for instance was suppose to have a game-like feel to it. Gundam SEED's graphics were frightful. Gundam 00 pulled it off.

And you're right about the stuff you say. Haven't seen Much Gundam, so I can't agree or disagree about that. Only series I've seen is Gundam Wing.

@Ikkiku what about Karas? it combined Cg with animation. Or how about "Steam Boy" I love it when they combine the two. It did have scenes where it could use better rendering. But "The simpsons" also use it. aswell as "Family guy" They use cell-shading to blend the cg with the 2d hand drawings to make it fit better. Im sorry ikkiku I just love to see it,Now days I look for it in animation. Glass fleet looks good also. Gundan igloo(I could go on all night) IGPX also looked outstanding.

Steamboy did it pretty good. But they did it in a way that made it blend in with the regular animation. It didn't make me aware when watching it that it was two different kinds of animation.

I haven't seen Karas, but judging from the trailer, it looks meh. Not too bad, but definetly not as good as Steamboy.

I guess the problem is when you can clearly distinct from what is CG and what is not. That is when it sucks. Like in this video, and most other animes/cartoons that use it.

karas is brighter though. Forgot what technology it is called, but it is cheaper to use THIS tech to make animation now a days than the older methods. Same artwork could be found in macross frontier veritech fighters.
