Pc's upgrade = 120 dollar graphics card = 5 times the power of a console.

Console upgrade = (Buy a whole new console) estimated price of NEW consoles are around 300 to 400 and then, repeat.

Overall I'd rather spend 500 dollars on a PC that is 10 times more powerful than a console and not spend 300 to 400 dollars every time a new console comes out. Buy parts for a car with potential to be faster than a supercar? or just buy a whole new really expensive new car?

They get outdated because the industry pushes pcs to the limit, while on consoles, they keep to the same standards, eg image size: 128*128 whilst on pc they will be going for 1024*1024. etc

We do, but we get better graphics and high frame rates, whereas you get 40 frames per second in a low-demanding title as COD MW2. I get triple that fps at a nativefullHD resolution, where the XBOX and PS3 use an upscaled 720P resolution, with AA and higher texture resolutions than the consoles on an outdated 3.5 year old HD3870X2.

No. Those were just options the application activated as selectable with a Vista (/Windows 7) and a DirectX10-videocard was present. But you could alter a text-file to activate "DirectX10" settings even on Windows XP and on a DirectX9-videocard.

So in practice, in reality, DirectX10 didn't ever excist for the personal market as it was all patched into existent games while it was only settings discriminated from DirectX9 to be activated through pushing certain hardware.

Do it like this; run Crysis using the text-file tweak in Windows XP and compare it to Enthusiast settings in Crysis Warhead that uses the same "DX10" effects natively on Windows XP without any tweaks anywhere.

Crysis looks the same on Windows XP using a simple text tweak as it does out of the box on highest settings in Windows Vista or Windows 7 - I know it since I've tested it, you think otherwise becuase you haven't.

This is Radeon 2900XT Tech Demo. It's not DX11 guys. It's the ATi's DX10 Tesselation engine which is hard to code. DX11 made it easier, now take a look at that: DX10 vs DX10 =)

DX11 officially release's oct 22nd, and NOT before.

The new 5000's serie's are the ONLY dx11 compatible cards!

Nvidia do's NOT have dx11 yet, but are concentrating on their new architecture 1st.

The 1st dx11 game will be dirt 2, and will only be playable in dx11 on oct 22nd. When i suspect a patch will be released along with the dx11 runtime.

No grafix card will use dx11 but the ATI 5000's till at least feb 2010.

I have DX 11. On windows 7 BETA. DX 11 is available. I've had windows 7 beta for about 4 months now. I dont have a DX11 card, nor do I own any games with it. Just wanted to say you CAN get DX11, just download windows 7 beta ;). My uncle also has a subscription to Microsoft. So guess what, I got the FULL thing now. Only people with subscriptions and beta access have DX 11.

DirectX10 was a fiasco. Crysis was the flagship and it didn't even use DirectX10, it was just altering the text-files for the game and you didn't need DX10 support on your OS or Videocard. DirectX11 might not be the revolution DirectX9 was, but with Tessalation alone we might get a noticable feature bump.

i got an ati hd5870 and windows7 with directx 11. if you are an action pack subscriber, then you got windows 7 the week before last. I didn't run the beta or anything before. I got windows7 full release version and love it.

dirt2 is already in dx11 if you have dx11 on your computer.

I'm not a gta4 fan, but it has a dx10 patch.

Incorrect. DirectX is a Microsoft technology and the XBox console series is and most likely will stay the only home game console using DirectX technology.

Other platforms, such as PS2/PS3/PSP/Nintendo DS/Nintendo GC/Nintendo Wii all use proprietary interfaces. The closest you'll come to computer-alike APIs are homebrew OpenGL implementations that go atop of these low level proprietary interfaces.

Games have to be multiplatform by programming design, not because DirectX runs everywhere.
