  • English one fits Light more. Japanese one is more evil, but English one sounds more sociopath like. Considering how Light is about to lose, and he despises losing, he would be in panic mode and go to last resort of "fuck it." and with that mentality he would abandon his normal mindset and just go insane. In general, Japanese laugh was way better, but the admitting he was Kira sounded better in English. But I give both a 13 out of 10

  • english sounds like the joker had a son

  • I don't get the big fuss over which one is better, ( = 3 = ) because both are equally awesome/sick!!! :D

  • I like the english one better. More crazy.

  • the japanese version is so much...creepier...

  • Has anyone noticed that the Japanese VA is the same as the one for tamaki from ouran high school host club and zero from vampire knight? I still can't believe this is his voice

  • soda

  • I like the Japanese better, it's just funny how he squeaks in the English version, but I like both.

  • @ScaryMonstahh thats because the english one sounds like hes a real psycho

  • @Masterincommander Haha don't get me wrong, I like the English one, I just feel that the Japanese one sounds like he's letting out some sort of anguish and happiness all at the same time.

  • The japanese one makes him sound retarded.

  • both are beautiful in their own way

  • At 0:13 English

    At 0:50 japanese

  • I like the english laugh better

    Am i the only one?

  • @DrLazyGenius I agree with you in the English version his laugh sounds more psychopathic which I like.

  • @kratos5000 Spot on. Especially those little squeaks he makes as he begins to laugh. lol.

  • it has that crazy gasp in the japanese version

  • i like them both but i prefer the english one more because he squeaks and it sounds adorable!!! and plus i love how it sounds like evil....

  • English.

  • I feel like the English one is more power mad evil, while the Japanese one sounds like a sort of tortured soul evil. Both are good... though I like the English better because it sounds more enthusiastic.

  • I really like the english because it has a little squeak

  • I prefer the japanese because its throaty and sounds almost like otherworldly sobbing

  • I like english

  • LOL! i do tht sometimes. am i a pyscho? =_=

  • jeezus i laughed in a manner thats a mix between both versions O_O

  • ENGLISH.

before hand he was trying to hold it in so in the beginning of the english one it almost sounds as if hes still trying to hold it but then lets it out...

well either way its still genius :D

  • Japanese is more evil, and english is more psychotic.

  • I like the english one because it also made me laugh but the japanese one was so darn serious so I didn't really laugh when I saw it in the original

  • I laughed like Light when i installed Skyrim

  • @Dhoulmaguz4ever Hahahahaha you're not the only one

  • :D

  • Japanese gives you such creepy feeling...i can't describe it.So awesome :D

  • He sounds like a hillbilly in the hungarian version. No lie.

  • english version, is he taking a dump?

  • Comment removed

  • What anime is this from?

  • @EPICLYFATALERROR Deathnote

  • Or I mean yeah he gets squeaky in the japanese one too but it's still way creepier with brad.

  • Yeeeeeeeeah I think brad swaile did way better, the squeakiness in it adds a much crazier (which in this case means better) effect. He sounds creepier that way and he's supposed to sound creepy XD

  • they both make me laugh XD Light FTW!!!

  • Mamoru Miyano is the best Kira hands down! hard to imagine he also voiced that fool Tamak i as well!

  • japanese - total mental collapse, harmless lunatic

    english - BATSHIT MOTHERFUCKIN PSYCHO

  • aww light you fucking psycho <3

This brings me back, Death Note was my first anime <3

  • I prefer English. It just has the insanity coming from a dead man. You can hear it in his voice.

  • Good in japanese, but the english guy didn`t do a bad job!

  • 0:19 people are like omg... not again...

  • Why do I love insane anime characters so much? I seriously think every anime needs at least one insane character. I think Higurashi did it to me.

  • @Ritsuioko23 At least? The only one who was not a whack job in Higurashi was...actually, they ALL were nuts.

  • if you think about it, the English laugh is better in the way that it sounds more like he's crazy and snapping, which is what's actually happening, rather then just laughing evily.

  • Miyano mamoru !

    >w<

  • Japanese voice actor just exploded my testicles, not okay.

  • Nothing can beat the japanese version. xD

  • @22headstrong dude listen to the italian version i crapd in my pants btw

  • @22headstrong How could any laugh be better than the Japanese? :>

  • @22headstrong

Careful! You might be called a "weaboo"...

  • @22headstrong They're both great. Jap= more evil. Eng= more psychotic.

    nuff said

  • THAT WAS SE-scary.....i'ma have some frickin' horrible nightmares toenighhhht...........lol, jk, that actually was pretty sexy, considering i'm insane myself:D

  • His laugh in japenese somehow makes me think of an evil Tamaki Suoh... I have no idea why..

  • They both sound freaking insane to me. Kudos for creep factor on both.

  • @DementedPuupy dead serious

  • @funkybananas8195 I cannot imagine Tamaki doing an evil laugh. This is disturbing. o___o

  • imagine someone laughing like this in real life

  • I am going to laugh like this from now on

  • the english versio was exelent! but i still prefer the japanes version ..

  • eh idk....when I heard the english I thought " holy shit, that's sounds crazy.." but then I go on and I heard the japanese and i thought " oh damn 0.0' (scared shitless)" so for me the japanese cause it sounds just a bit more sick...

  • Btw the guy who does light in Japanese does tamaki suoh from OHSHC....XD

  • @funkybananas8195 Yup....and Death the kid from Soul eater :D

  • @funkybananas8195 WHAAAAAT?!?! YOU SERIOUS? O___O

  • I will now have nightmares for the rest of my fucking life.

  • @slaphappypappyOG First, you've gotta kill a few people. And then get sent to a prison where they tell you you'll never see daylight again. So you dig up a doctor, pay him twenty menthol Kools to do a surgical shine job on your eyes …

  • 0:14 sqeak!!!

  • Both did awesome job. I personally didn't watch any Death Note episodes in English but every video I see of Brad Swaile's Kira is awesome!

  • wait a second..... i laugh just like the english version..... O.o

  • The English laugh isn't bad, I can hear that the voice actor put effort into it, but its really hard to get it right. The Japanese one is just right b/c the voice fits the character, and the emotion part of the laugh is just perfect.

  • How would I get this as a ringtone?

  • My laugh sounds almost exactley like lights laugh in english it is so annoying cuz im a girl!!!

  • @tashona123 LOL REALLY? I try to in=mitate and make me laugh like this everyday but my normal laugh is like heheheehheh......hehhhhahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahahaah ahahahahahahaahahah*can't breath while laughs so it's like a gag* a ha ha haahahahah heheheheheeh ahhahahahahahaahahah

  • Mamoru Miyano is Amazing!!My favorite seiyuu!

  • Haha. A Gee!!

  • I actually do laugh like that. My friends say that it freaks them out. xD

  • English or Japanese, that is one epic evil laugh-3

  • English was good when he released the creepy laugh, but then it just started to be uncontrolled and unprofressional.

  • I like Light's laugh in english better.

Why? The Japanese Light stole the Joker's laugh. T_T

  • epic! Light is the best maniac around!

  • It always makes me laugh, too, but I don't really hear any difference at all.

My friend used Light's laugh as her ringtone and it always freaked out everyone who was near her. :)

  • @loesiechan I laugh too but in a nervous sort of way =P

  • Both versions are very well portrayed and unique to their own language. I honestly like them both. But nnngh hot damn the japanese version makes me shiver <3

  • Both the dub and the original are rather good, quit aruguing.

I perfer the English version since I know little to no Japanese, I find it easier to convey the emotion to me if I listen to it in english.

I only watch an anime subbed if the anime is new or it has a crappy edits/god awful voice acting. (no matter what you say, the dub voice isnt awful)

  • They sounded pretty similar to me but of course a lot of people are going to say japanese is more refined or better captures his character or english just sucks for no apparent reason. I still don't get the hate for dubs.

  • Lol named Kira, and I actually can laugh like that :0. Probably not good!! >:)

  • The japanese dub for light was so much better imo

  • he lol'd

  • I like both of them but it seems that light sounds more psychotic in the Japanese but still I like both of them

  • both kick ass, the voices are very similar as well

  • I like japanese better :P

  • The Japanese laugh is seriously how I laugh. >:T

  • lol wtf is with the"gee" when his about to laugh rofl japanese one is cooler

  • I think they showed this to show just how insane Light had become at this point

  • He sounded more psychotic in Japanese.., and that is just plain awesome

  • @quoppa souns like a clown

  • @haloCE6 In a way I guess... He still sounds psychotic....

  • they sound the same or is that just me

  • THis is my favorite sound of all time

  • Japanese!

  • Dude the English version is clearly better.

  • His laugh was sexier in japanese. The english didn't catch me !

  • thats just really creepy...

  • am I weird for thinking lights laugh was pretty sexy in japanese

  • Hmm I just noticed that his shadow when he laughs looks creepy O_O

  • I'm sorry, but after seeing this video I have to say 00:35=RAPE FACE!! Also, I think the the squeak at 00:14 makes the dub sound creepier.

  • My response: Who cares which is better? Light's a loonie fruitcake either way. Seriously, though, their the exact same thing, although the english laugh was louder. So I give it to the English dub. Besides, he's Brad Freakin' Swaile, so he automatically wins.

  • I think these are the best 2 out of all of the languages by far.

  • sooda...boku ga kira da

  • Japanese and italian are the best!!

  • Comment removed

  • dude, i think they should've made deathnote from someone else in the story's point of view and THEN from Lights......just sayin...this ending wouldve been a rele cool twist

  • I'm sorry but japanese rules :D

  • @LadyBakura92 I'm sorry, but your username is gonna give me nightmares (possibly insomnia) for the next few months. XD

  • 2 versions of Light's laugh = 2000 dead puppies.

  • Lights sphycopathic laugh scares me 0.O

  • he sounds batshit crazy like he finally snapped in the first one, english dub is def #1

  • eng dub sounds more scary and psycho and it puts a smile to my face

  • jap ofc

  • I have laughed like this.... should i be scared.... O.o

  • @Sai92Tobi how i wanne laugh like like this

  • I don't remember how, but this is the ringtone for my best friend (English dub).

  • @KittenzGoBOOM15 If I ever get a cool phone I'm gonna do that and make SURE it goes off during class on april fools day xD

  • @SasuNaruWillNotDie Hey, is it me, or does the English dub sound like he's a braindead circus clown monkey on drugs?

  • I personally preferred the Japanese VA for most of the anime, but for this I gotta give it to the dub.

The Japanese version, while scary and clearly evil, doesn't give me that same impression of batshit insane that the english version does

  • English Light laughs like one of my friends if he saw a guy get kicked in the balls. :)

  • the light's laugh in english is best ghiahahahahaha *_*

  • well this was the worst part of death note Light your an idiot for underestimating L's successors. ever since he killed L he just Lost his edge got to dam cocky. the second season of death note fails compared to the first.

  • Having never seen Deathnote, the second sounds more free and childlike, however the first one had fifty-percent more giggleshits.

  • It's this laugh, not the Death Note, that scares me about Light.

  • he squeaks right before he laughs

  • this is react from a joke saying Justin Beiber is a boy

  • I love everyone's expression. XD

  • ahahhahahahha..ihaahahaihaahahahahgiiihaAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..AAHAHHAH..AHAHAHH..AHAHAHAHAH..EEEH..That's right...I am Kira.. o.o spastic.

  • English is better. The Japanese one sounds to flat and boring, whereas the English one showed he was a deranged nutcase.

I still have it as my alarm clock on my phone though, makes me shit my pants every time.

  • @WalkerOfTheWastes the japanese sounds much more like a guy going crazy.

  • @WalkerOfTheWastes I personally like the japanese version better

  • As soon as the English Light stopped laughing... I laughed. Loudly.

As soon as the Japanese Light stopped laughing... I had chills down my spine.

  • Japanese keeps composure but the English breaks too much, Japanese is far better but English isnt bad considering how bad dub is

  • Is it bad that I laugh along with him? :'D

  • Light's laugh english version: *shudder*, squeak, squeaks some more, huh huh huh heh heh heh *little squeak* haha ahaha, a hahaha... *eerie silence*... "That's right, I am Kira."

  • OMG THAT IS SO HOT.

  • I like the japanese one better the English one made him sound like a clown if you listen closely

  • whan i was watching this my 5 year old cousin walks in and starts to scream when he laughs! XD

  • both the laughs sound the same

  • ...Ok...

  • His shadow on the wall behind him just makes it creepier 0_0

  • Well... they're both contagious.

  • the english version sounds like he's being tickled to the MAX

  • Man, I Wish I Laughed Like That.. >T

  • @SoapeeChan

    Hhahahhahaa.

  • @SoapeeChan ived been practising to do this laugh cant do it as good

  • Well, I was rooting for Light to win. You have to understand that he had to sacrifice his own sanity. Light knew this would happen, he sacrificed himself to make a better world.

  • @josephboy1000

He didn't merely sacrifice his sanity. While he was unaware of the Death Note rules at the time, Light made it very clear when he and Ryuk first spoke that he had considered the possibilities of losing his soul, or something like. So he was ready to sacrifice his sanity, soul, and hell, even his purity, in order to see his goal realized. That's to be admired. I too was rooting for Light, this being one of the main reasons

  • English = Dolphins. Dolphins that are hurt badly.

  • I prefer the English one. I think this because this scene is trying to portray a mixture of emotions, sadness, anger, confusion and Lights mental breakdown. All he has worked so hard for...has now been lost. Its a manic laugh, and I feel the random gasping and the giggles mixed with the roaring laughter give the english laugh a better portrayel of what I wrote above. Whoever does the voice for Light in both cases though are sheer geniuses.

  • @TransmissionHydrogen

Brad Swaile did the voice of Light in English, and I completely agree with you. He was clearly suffering a psychotic break in this scene, and I think the English VA captured all of Light's churning emotions perfectly. He truly sounded unhinged, and the laugh combined with the gasping and giggles just make it so much better. I do <3 Mamoru Miyano's version though. It's just evil sounding. But in the end, Swaile takes it for me, for the very reasons you mentioned :)

  • @TransmissionHydrogen I agree with you, But I think that the Japanese one's sexier. xD like, Much much sexier. xP

  • Oddly enough I personally think the Japanese version covered what you stated above a bit better then the English version as the beginning was slower and sounded more like crying as if coming to a full realization of what's just happened before bursting out into insane laughter that sounds like crying and laughing at the same time and then just turns to full laughter the farther he travels from sanity. They both did a fantastic job though

  • @TransmissionHydrogen

    Bullshit.

The English dub is inferior because it rarely (if at all) portrays Light's character.. the struggle, and the advancement of his character throughout his years of being Kira.

In English, his laughs sound sub-par, even in previous episodes....

What else do I need to say? The proof is in the video. Nuff Said.

  • @BeyondDGrave

    Opinion.

There's no solid "proof" to this, I thought the voice actors for the English version, Brad Swaile, Brian Drummond, Alessandro Juliani, did a fantastic job.

Both the original and english are quite good overall I think

    Not every dub is good.

  • @Usul573

Except for the fact that they all sound like kids throughout the entire anime (with eng. dubs), even though light was supposed to be 6 years older, still sounded like a kid.

ps: Of course it's opinion for now, I can't run any scientific findings on it, nor do I think it is worth it. If you cannot hear the difference in taste, pearls cast before swine I say...

  • @BeyondDGrave I do believe it's all down to personal opinion. So don't belittle my opinion with your 'nuff said's' and 'bullshit's' because nothing will change my opinion.

I prefer the English version for the reasons I have already stated, and nothing that you say will change that. So don't challenge me directly on which is better when I've already made my opinion clear.

  • @TransmissionHydrogen i dont think so. I think he does this laugh because he addmitis ( i dont know how to write it) that he is kira to someone. Do you know the proud that he is feeling? I know that cause I am psycho

  • @thomasseta yeah ok. sh.
