  • Brainwashed is an anti-christian song. I doubt Jon is christian. Listen to the live recordings of "brainwashed". Matt says "this is a song about people being brainwashed, beliving things that just aren't true."

  • @stevierenee84 But then again, Dante's Inferno, now tell me if Hell and Lucifer sounds like fun after listening to that.

  • this is historical when you think about it , love iced earth.

  • the instrumental part from 2:30 is great..the drums are simply but with those rhythm guitar it makes an awesome music

  • @encoreee90 I'm changing my words. The instrumental part is one of the best I've ever heard. Those drum fills are awesome and when solo guitar comes in. I have no words for it. Epic.

  • Such a great song!

  • fenadir bu parca.

  • I JUST CAN"T GET THAT VOICE... I WANT THE OLD ONE

  • matt barlow is leaving again : (

  • @jimmie302

Tim might give Jon the finger if he dares even ask. Tim has three other projects/bands anyways. I wish Tim/Jon would just do the vocals together as on Gettysburg.

  • voice and a half

  • Thumbs up if you feel like a Setian!

  • Boner achieved <3

  • random: artwork reminds me of PoP2 when the prince put that mask on... :D

  • @KillzoneV3 Nice comparison it kinda does

  • THIS SONG RULES!

  • amazing song. Just amazing!

  • This song is so evil! I love it!

  • "Look at you now;

    You pathetic little man.

    With spear I pierce your hide;

    Destiny in my hand.

    For all mine have lost,

    Your fate will intertwine,

    Your death will polarize;

    Resurrection will DIVIDE!"

    I love that part. O_O \m/

  • I first listened this song on the radio and now i love it

  • They have the best Album Artworks.Reminds me a little bit of Prince of persia 2008 Graphic

  • Awesome.

  • LET ALL YOUR CHILDREN PRAY

    youve washed their sins away

    ILL BRING THE SUFFERING

    love that

  • been since gettysburg since ive kept up with iced earth... this song gives me the feel of old IE... I love it

  • One of their best songs. Long live Iced earth!

  • rofl thats a long argument. anyways. IE AWESOME AS ALWAYS :D

  • one hell of a song!! iced earth's masterpiece....

  • jon shaffer is not stupid enough to follow scientology heh

  • This is good i like Ripper in Iced Earth more but this is pretty sweet.

  • Can't believe I saw them live

  • Some time ago somebody told me: if you are said to do this and to say that and think about these, only to be a good "believer", what kind of god would demand that? A good one?

  • As a Christian, I can still enjoy this song cause I understand the context in which it is being used. It's being used to support a SCI FI story they put together for these albums. They aren't saying this is real for goodness sakes. My fellow Christians needs to chill out. This not like Scientology where they took a sci fi story and believed it t be real.

  • Thank you!! I too am a Christian and just like you, I can look at this within context. Faith doesn't give you a liscense to be stupid!

  • I can see where you are coming from, but considering this I have a couple questions:

    1. If it isn't Scientology then where does Jon Schaffer draw inspiration for his songs? In "Come What May" he sings that you should look for answers "within yourself" which happens to be an idea from Humanism - so I wonder if it is a coincidence or something else.

2 - If one day Schaffer came out and said that he indeed is a New Ager (or something like that) then would you still listen to Iced Earth?

  • I would still listen.

    But I would stop buying.

And it's not scientology, it's called fantasy. =|

  • This is pretty funny... Scientology and Humanism have nothing to do with each other, the former is a cult started by L. Ron Hubbard in the sixties, the latter a philosophical movement originating in the Renaissance, quite different things, really. As for the actual philosophical underpinnings of Jon Schaffer's lyrics, they're informed by the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche (which is as far from Scientology or New Age as can be).

  • Friedrich Nietzsche - the guy who said that "God is Dead" and followed the thought of " Übermensch" (which translates into "overman" or "human being" or "superman"). He went insane before he died and his close friends at his funeral said that he was "holy" (basically worshiped him like a god).

Humanism is not a term that is pinned on him, but if you check out his history and philosophy then he smells of humanism and occultism (sort of like L.Ron Hubbard).

  • Well, if you think that you can understand a philosopher's writings from a Wikipedia blurb then good luck to you (Nietzsche worshiped as a god by his followers? please...).Such straightforward literalism as yours is frankly alarming. I don't want to sound patronizing, but how many books in your life have you exactly read? WHAT do you know of culture or history or philosophy? Because at the moment you sound like an unversed illiterate spouting forth paranoid nonsense much akin to Hubbard's.

  • How did you know about Wikipedia quotes? You checked yourself ...hmmm?

Nietzsche probably influenced Thule Society which in turn influenced Hitler - whose Nazi party wanted to create a superman race .

I read enough about Nietsche to know that whatever garbage he has to say is of no interest to me. You could accuse me of being narrow-minded, but I'm just a kind of person who doesn't go pissing on the electric fence to see if it is really, really true that I will have a painful experience.

  • Nietzsche was critical of Judaeo-Christian philosophies and attitudes (and that's the main link to Iced Earth lyrics), his writings on the subject were heavily edited and twisted by his sister (who was intent on giving them an anti-semitic bend in accordance with her prejudices) after his death. That particular edition later ended up in Hitler's hands. Nietzsche himself was a staunch opponent of racism and anti-semitism and in fact broke all connexions with his sister exactly over that issue.

  • My point was NOT regarding Jews but the idea of superman race - which Hitler did adopt.

I am aware that Nietzsche claims that he wasn't an anti-semite . . . and he probably wasn't but he did berate Judeo-Christian beliefs which int turn can lead to anti-semitism. A group could be reading his book and say "Nietzsche is right, Jews and Christians are stupid because of their beliefs. Let's do what Nietzsche couldn't do and kill them off so that they don't teach their religion to our kids".

  • Furthermore, the "Ubermensch" is a spiritual ideal developed by Nietzsche and has nothing to do with race or eugenics, but is rather concerned with improvement of character through self-overcoming (Nietzsche's general philosophy is mostly concerned with morals, values and their relationship to human psychology, the question of how people deal with what they perceive to be truths and the ways they devise to cope with reality ("Come What May" is a song about that), very heavy philosophical stuff).

  • So, to sum it up for all the people who care not to read this debate: Nietzsche 's "Ubermensch" theory was not about the breeding of a superman, but the improvement of the self. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Yep. Pretty much. Nietzsche wrote using poetic metaphor (especially in "Zarathustra") which far too many people take at face value (his main concern was creating a new system of moral values which would not be rooted in religion, since by his time religious values were becoming quickly outdated and irrelevant (thus, "God is dead") and he found such "dead" values to be a very insidious notion that ultimately leads to nihilism).

  • No, you are totally right. It is all about becoming a higher class of being through freeing yourself of all moral inhibitions, by strengthening your mind and being able to spot phony ideas and prevent yourself from being dragged down with them.

  • GTFO my Iced Earth Senior Cocksucker.

  • You perphetic little emo!!! Odin and Lucifer owns!!!

  • ICED EARTH IS BACK!!! i have missed it, Matt Barlow is back hell yeah

  • You know I thought Iced Earth was a metal band. Not a Pop group whose only member noticed is the singer. Not the lead solo ripping guitarist. The bassist with the oh so sweet fretless solos they get in Iced Earth. Oh and lets not forgot the rythm guitarist who also writes all the song. Silly me. I must be confused,

  • Oh and and the Drummer as well...who well, can kick drum faster then most modern machine guns.

  • @ApocalypticFuture now hes gone 4 good :/

  • @ApocalypticFuture and gone again hell no

  • the controversy this song inspires in these comments coincides nicely with the songs own words-- "resurrection will divide"... christ's resurrection causes controversy in real life and the debate you guys are having is kind of what Set Abominae describes in the song :P

  • why don't u all take ur fucking religions on go shove em up ur ass cuz no1 cares

  • wow when will you religous zealots stop trying to preach to everyone and stop bashing things this isnt all devilish and shit listen closely jeez almost any metal song on youtube that has sumthing like this has a guy going blahblah blah he loves you all and hes the king we get it guys...if we burn we will burn leave us be and go listen to sum christian music or sumthing but stop coming to metal vids and bash them

  • @frankjones11 yeah i agree we want to burn in hell.

  • @frankjones11 i am christian. this is the best band in history. nuff said. some of us are cool.

  • @frankjones11 Wow dude I totally agree with what you said, I honestly couldn't of said it better myself lol :)

  • this is iced back strong!!

  • This isn't satan. It's Set Abominae(or however you spell his name). If you listen to Come What May, Set is more merciful to humans.

  • How did they glorify the Antichrist? The Antichrist was the bad guy in the movie. The "Friday the 13th" movies don't "glorify" serial killers, they just make for interesting characters.

  • Dude Satan, Christianity, Jesus its all a lie, watch the movie Zeitgeist you WONT wanna believe in god

Antichrist, or no, its still a great story letalone a great band, so stop being a little snot about glorifying what isnt there

  • I was almost considering giving Zeitgeist a look, but I saw it also talked about 9/11 being an inside job, and now I won't be able to take it seriously.

Live and let live, man. You think people are deluded by Christianity, let them be deluded.

  • dude i saw that movie and i dont believe anymore

  • Masonicrite, its just a song about a story. I doubt you went bashing movies like The Omen or other movies that contains the character "Antichrist". Even the bible mentions devils mocking Jesus, so i dont see where youre coming from with that bullshit?

  • Um IE isn't Antichrist.

  • They're just singing a song from the point of view of those who hated and crucified Jesus. They're not mocking anyone.

  • Ah shut your face up. Your Jesus Died for nothing.

  • Comment removed

  • holyshit why does religion get brought up in everything these days....theres religion freaks even on vids of kittens wearing lil devil horns(and im not kidding)im gonna leave what i believe(im just like jon in that sense) out of this....but ill tell you one thing i bet jesus is rockin the fuck out to IE as we speak

  • LMFAO damn rite XD

  • I freaking love this band

the best band on the face of the earth no doubt!

  • Im a christian and i love iced earth... a whole lot im not sure if they are anti-c or not but they sound good and thats normally what i look for in a band... i dont listen to their lyrics all that much just the music

  • Seriusly dont say such bullshits like "i dont listen to their lyrics all that much just the music " Iced earth is just far beyond plain music....

Please people says this are not fun of IE.

  • ill bring the suffering, ILL CRUCIFY THEIR KING!!! you are not welcome in these parts. lyrics are what make the sound, not the sound! you my friend shall be silenced! /b/

  • people people its fucking metal...how much more antichristian can it be

  • lol,u can say antichristian a song from its lyrics not from its music kind..

  • This song is just part of the whole "Something Wicked This Way Comes" story and that's exactly what it is is a story. It doesn't really matter if it is a "anti-christian" song or not. Jon Schaffer is a christian, he just doesn't like religion in the sense of demoninations. It's all a story people so just chill and enjoy the awesomeness of Iced Earth!!

  • nice i dont understand how people can get pissed i is just telling a story

  • guys look this is just a song

I'm Christian and I like this song religion as nothin' to do with this

nobody will start hating Jesus just to listen to this song, it's just a song

    Barlow rules!!!

  • 3 feb in holland, i cant fucking wait...

  • Hmmm, I've never heard Iced Earth before... pretty good.

  • i don't know.......is iced earth christian?please write if you know.

  • no they arent. i thought they were christian to the first time i listened to them. but their not

  • @macktherocker666: They are, however, not anti-christian, unlike many metal bands out there. And have a rather respectable view of the religion itself, although most likely not many of its practitioners.

  • @macktherocker666 Good christian metal???

  • @macktherocker666

    YES THEY ARE DEVIL BOY

  • @rav3able did you just call him the devil?

  • @macktherocker666 Jon Schaffer is actually Lutherian. I believe Matt is christian though I'm not sure which kind.

  • @SweetOdinsRavens the website just says he used to be a lutheran. (my religion) not sure if he still is.

  • @AnthonyRF1996 Oh, I already knew about Schaffer cause he converted when he wrote "watching over me". Didn't know about Matt though.

  • Jon believes in God but hates religion as a general rule. He respects the teachings of Jesus, but dislikes anything that tries to quell inherent, POSITIVE human nature. But he also writes about the atrocities of mankind.

  • well in "brainwashed" it pretty much is directed at some church organisation probably catholicism. i hope i help what your saying =]

  • @kafrilos They like to choose religious and mythological themes but they don't proclaim to represent any religion.

  • @glortor Actually, the "Something Wicked" theme was created just for this Iced Earth alboum, an idea Schaffer created himself!

  • @kafrilos schaffer the band as a whole isn't. Brent is. Schaffer at least used to be. don't know abou the rest of the members.

  • ICED EARTH OWNS. Thanks for putting all these songs up here I'm buying the album asap.

  • The best vocalist of Iced Earth history.Undoubtedly!!!

  • barlow is so fuvking gooooooooood in this song

    GOD BLESS MATT!!!

  • "I'll bring the suffering..."

  • Yeah!

    "Look at your children pray."

    "I'll crucify the king!"

One of the best songs from this album.

  • Pardon.

    "LET all your children pray."

  • FUCK

The atmosphere of this song is AMAZING

  • I have the cd, and this is the best song of it.

  • goodjob mac!

  • iced earth are gods walking on this earth. Lets all fallow them to the promise land.

  • Roman Catholics are the ones who should like it best! :P

  • I like this song, but since I'm roman catholic its a bit...ehhh.

  • CRYHARDERTWAT

  • iced earth fucking rules

  • Was I crying? No! I was just expressing my opinion. Iced Earth Rules!!!

  • Dont mix religion with Music :)

  • do you even know what the Wicked saga is about ?

if not, please do us all a favor and shut up

  • its music :) no matter how antichristianic it might sound :) Thats my opinion even when i hear Dimmu Borgir :) IM HEARING MUSIC LYRICS COME SECOND FOR ME MY OPINION THNQ P.S.: U should shut up

  • you fuckin started with that 'don't mix religion with music' honestly i were thinking that dude is gay, and when i see you're using U instead of you, and fuckin smiley faces, I AM BLOODY RIGHT YOU PATHETIC PIECE OF FUCKIN FAG TRASH !!!!!

  • My, aren't U cranky? What's up? Your girlfriend abandoned you? ( see ? i can use both )

    P.S. No smileys for U

  • The music, actually, IS anti-Christian. The song is from the point of view of the anti-Christ himself. Set Abominae, the Setian Saviour. He's mocking Jesus as he dies on the cross as he stages the resurrection to divide mankind into different religions so they will never be able to bring about peace. All because Man destroyed all but ten thousand Setians in the pursuit of galactic domination.

    :)

  • And these 10 000 "will cease the day", right?

  • Wow.....Now that I think of it, that is the absolute best plan ever.........Schaffer is a fucking Stratego

  • could you explain what its about? ive been wondering for a while

  • the crucifixtion of jesus

  • I hear you...Its frustrating having to ignore what he is singing hahaha

  • iced earth=greatest band in the universe!

set abominae=coolest mascot in the universe

it's only natural to put 2 and 2 together lol

  • well aint that the biggest opinion ive ever heard

  • fuck yeah iced earth is the best band out this cd is fuckin tight

  • And you too pokey.

  • Indeed to both of you.

  • One of the best songs on the album!

  • badass

  • Awesome. Matt Barlow shines through. Hail Iced Earth.

  • Hey, that YOUR opinion.

  • People, people.

    Don't yell at him.

Look at his screenname. His argument SUPPORTS Barlow!
