  • im agy

  • wow mac os x at least had a mouse...

  • Runs minecraft at 300 fps.

  • Mega drive, 20MB.

  • 20mb hard drive, big back then, but now I laugh

  • Oooh... That keyboard sounds like it was a joy to type one! I'm typing on a model M myself right now...

  • 2:00 You just lost the game, ^_^

  • every version of windows sucks except 95 and XP. I'd like to see that thing run UNIX V5. you can get it at osvirtual net

  • @MrIntosh Every version of windows sucks except 95, XP, and 7. That, sir, is a FACT.

    Macs FTW

  • @almann1117 That is an opinion!

  • Every version of Windows Until 3.11 was a mess.

  • WOW! cool stuff

  • Fast as hell on my Dual Core AMD X2 !

  • It is ironic that I'm watching this on Ubuntu 10.04. . . . .

  • @mortensen1961 Ubuntu, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (Upgrade to 11.04 please).

  • @mortensen1961 It is ironic that I'm watching this on Ubuntu 11.04. . . . .

  • @subkidproductions Lol! Another Ubuntu user here! I'm using Ubuntu Studio and Musix (another distro based on Debian).

  • ooooooo a clock.....

  • I think the first real Windows were 3.1.

  • Gotta love that Model M keyboard. Truly a god among keyboards.

  • man why it's faster than 7???

because they are less informations to load

    TAKE THAT 21st century

  • This is the version of windows that didn't allow overlapping windows (even though the GUI supported it) because of fears of lawsuits from Apple, isn't it?

  • 2:12 the drive is happy

  • could you imagine running that OS on a computer today... absolutely 0 loading time, you could probly hold all the information on a single ram stick lol

  • @ironspring You could actually hold all the information from 100 of these one today's standard single ram chip.

The only problem is that once you cut the power to the ram chip its all gone! The funny thing is, they have programs built to emulate Dos(which was the command line predecessor to this Windows) because current windows versions won't support the old dos games that some people still enjoy playing.

  • Why did people want computers like this? The alternative was a typewriter!

  • @howardrose we wouldnt have the computer we have now without this.

  • holy shit xD

    just wow

  • Why people wanted computers in those days?

  • @SWARMPROJECT Without "us "people" buying these you would not have what you have today!

  • @sh4rkbyt3 So??

I wanted to know what people do in that time with a operating system like that, im not saying that it sucks

  • @SWARMPROJECT It's like having a model "T" car. It was the latest and the greatest at that time so you just simply adapted to it. Not that it wasn't painful in some respects but when there is no alternative you don't know any different either. To have all those features (which seems dated by todays standards) instantly at your fingertips, you were grateful for all the tools that you'd never had access to before.

  • ahh back when windows worked right!!!

  • @komododragon2007 awesome! this is so sexy!

  • Wow you even kept the original IBM Model M keyboard! I remember learning basic MS-DOS commands as a kid to play video games. I just wish people had more of an appreciation for vintage hardware like this.

  • I think of all the XTs and ATs I've thrown away.......

  • windows vista my ass

  • I just love the sound of keyboard... It can put me sleep... :)

  • He's using it in monochrome mode. Terrible idea... but then you'd need a decent computer for the 16 color EGA 640x350 mode.

  • love the clicking sound of your keyboard. Makes me nostalgic.

  • Boots so fast. Please bring my 16 bits back to me!

  • Better than Win7. Doesn't need a fuckin' nuclear reactor, runs on a normal PC...

  • This beats the crap out of Windows Vista.

  • Could this run COD?

  • does it have a mouse or only a keyboard

  • @Padrigfilms keyboard but mouse was around but wasnt thought of as required

  • @Padrigfilms It does have mouse support. I've used it.

  • Love the porn

  • Hey if you were to overclock this to a 286 would the clock run fast?

  • How come 80s/90s software, I think of how hairy people were in that era? Sheesh. Look at that UI.

  • Wow, I forgot that windows used to come with Reversi before the days of minesweeper and solitaire.

I remember when my college got it's first Windows 3.0 machine, and it made the ones running Windows 2 look simple.

Then the college bought a Macintosh...

  • everything is faster than vista

  • I,m so in love , i,m crying & i have One , but i like this one :) QC

  • GNU FTW

  • I swear that my Windows 7 PC shuddered when I played this video and it saw its predecessor.

  • It works and so fast! When can I change my Windows 7 for this? =)

  • WHY IS EVERYONE BEING SO STUCK UP ABOUT WINDOWS VISTA NOT BEING BETTER THEN THIS? WINDOWS VISTA IS COOL! IT'S BETTER THEN WINDOWS 98 OR NT! SO IT MIGHT BE A BIT SLOW. WHAT'S WRONG WITH WINDOWS VISTA?

  • @motherfan55

    Windows 1 is funny

  • @motherfan55 i prefer 98 to vista. vista is not cool.

  • @motherfan55 Well not being able to turn your caps lock off sounds like a real big fault of vista...

  • Windows Vista can't even run with 640 MEGAbytes that fast!!

  • It has a Clock! I wish my Computer has a Clock!!!

  • @csiew23 I currently run Mac os 10.6 and Windows 7 pro on my Macbook pro. Back in the day I did have a rare PC with an AMD K6-II that ran ME great while others had trouble with it LOL.

  • Amazing: my graphic calculator has approximately the same specs as this computer (it basically lacks the hard drive & graphics, for the rest it's pretty much the same). LOL!

  • Windows 1 had a startup animation? Omg holy crap!

  • Who buys Windows with out buying a mouse? Hell, I had a mouse for my Commodore 64.

  • @Bandit400VC XTC Abandonware

  • Still better than Mac.

  • no mose hahaha el vista es igual de rapido ._.

  • does it all this machine to operate a clock!!!!!hahahaa

  • does this have wifi?

  • REVERSI!!!!!!!!!!!111one111eleven!

  • These keyboard sounds are so tasty!

  • Funny to think how we could ever work on this kind of stuff, I still remember Windows 3.1. Just goes to show how much we take for granted, all of you are so unhappy with Vista, but imagine working on that :P I can imagine working on that because I did, not very fun...

  • Alley Cat!!!! Wow i played that before... it was a fun game!

  • Haha. This could be the machine that the doctor uses in A Nightmare on Elm Street part 3 ^^

  • hmm does this have flash?

  • Some have pointed out that it boots faster than Vista and it is true but it also boots faster than Mac OS and any other GUI I have used over the last thirty years except maybe GEOS on my old Commodore 64.

  • @DanteLAurs Yeah, GEOS is the real GUI marvel of the world, considering what they managed to do with the hardware at hand.

  • I remember the days when you had to type "win" to get into the OS.

  • Still better than Vista.

  • @MKShaggy1985 Have any of you even used Vista

  • @MKShaggy1985 yer it is

  • brb INSTALLING THIS ON MY PC

  • Wow. That's all I have to say.

  • Don't forget bioshock, Left for dead or cod mw2

  • I still have my set of 5-1/4" Windows 1.03 disks. I used to demo this version in a DOS window running on top of Win NT 4.0 when I was a contract Fortune 1000 IT instructor.

  • "The first successful commercial GUI product was the Apple Macintosh, which was heavily inspired by PARC's work; Xerox was allowed to buy pre-IPO stock from Apple in exchange for engineer visits and an understanding that Apple would create a GUI product."

  • Ahh The Good Old IBM PC Keyboard Build like a Tank and you could piratically run over it with a truck and it would still work.

I have one on my 3 Ghz P$ System and I got it at a flea market for 30 bucks (The Keyboard) and it's way better then all those fancy 50 keyboards that have the too small and close together keys and have a cheap 5 dollar quality keyboard feel to them plus no annoying Windows Key that always fuckes up the playing of Games if you hit it by mistake.

  • I can hear the Hard Drive, I remember when I had a hard drive like that you could feel it shaking the entire computer

  • Great! Now play Counterstrike or World of Warcraft =D

  • @fattonywal08

Wrong... System7 was waaaaaaay more useable...

Even the first Mac was waaaaaaay above that.

  • mmmmm is it just me or can i smell mac os 7 off this 1???

  • You're about 11 years off.

  • I wish I knew how to play Reversi.

ALLEY CAT!!! I love that game! My favorite part is the fish bowl (and also running away from that stupid dog...)

  • lol. I love how the old clunker takes 13 seconds (2:11 - 2:24) just to open Write.

  • Ah, the good old days of computers! Back when computer mice (for those who even owned such devices) were cube-shaped rather than conforming to the shape of your hand. I like those clicky keyboards (clickity-clack!).

Oh, and Windows 1 didn't support overlapping windows -- only tiled, iconized, and fullscreen (zoomed) windows.

  • what it has a startup animation?

  • This is where it all went wrong. I wish Microsoft had just stuck with DOS and later given it long filenames.

  • @Uncompetative MACS are for social climbing, status symbol b1tches!!! that pretty much s@Ck in the real world!! all hail!! PC for hardcore gamersss.............

  • DOS was brilliant. You should have tried punch cards or ribbon

  • lol evrytime he type is like *twang! *twang! *twang! ...

  • Isn't that a "buckling spring" keyboard?

  • and the kad you have a computer with Windows 1?

  • Can you open more than one program at a time?? Just saw one program take up the whole screen. I thought "Windows" mean you can have more than one Windows at a time open for multi tasking.

  • @murfreebear Alt-tab worked even then. But most windows did maximize naturally -- they could be tiled I remember too.

  • I love the sounds of those typewritter keyboard!

  • listen to that keyboard. It's more typewriter than peripheral

  • wonderful it boots way faster, faster and faster than Vista. lol

  • not for me!

  • I find nothing wrong with vista.

  • Vista was just to much added at once. Is a memory hog, Windows 7 fixed alot of the issues. Windows ME was still the worse one.

  • @Rand0081 yes but you get alot ALOT and ALOT less.

  • So primitive. Apple was light years ahead of Microsoft/IBM and blew it. The company could have been the standard if it had been open -- willing to license.

  • cd windows

    win

    I miss those days.

  • Win 7 vs This

  • Windows 1 wow must be slow

im not hatting on it but still is it?

  • cool

  • amazing that it all started from that. there is lots on that computer that we have on our computers today. on the top it says msdos executive, i think that is the start of .exe files.

  • This is so cool. Where can I find a copy of Windows 1.0 for my PC/XT unit?

    Gary

  • yes, motherfucking alleycat!

  • i see no difference between vista and this

  • @Yanjuntsui

    wyglądu też nie odróżniasz?

  • @Yanjuntsui

    exactly

  • @Yanjuntsui if only bill gates listened to his own statement of 640k is more than enough memory

  • 4.77MEGAHz isn't a lot.

    For example, a typical 20th century dual core runs at 2.4GIGAhertz. That is 2.4GHz x 2 = 4.8GHz.

    Giga - Power 9

    Mega - Power 6

    Therefore, 4.77MHz = 4.77 Million hertz and 4.8GHz = 4800 Million hertz. HUGE difference.

  • There was no dual core in the 20th century. We're in the 21th now.

  • we aren't in the 20th or "21th" century, we're in the 21st century. :P

  • Cool memories, thanks!

  • Funny..............................not.

  • @ccreck6 haha funny sh1t wwahhaha

  • Wow it runs faster than vista!

  • It actually does is the sad thing. Shows what happens when your GUI is too big.

  • No, it shows what happens when you're not with the times.

  • Tell me one version of Windows that does not run faster than Vista.

  • Windows ME

  • It's called "upgrade". As time goes on, hardware gets more powerful, and operating systems get more complex and require that powerful hardware to run on. Windows XP ran fine for me with 512mb of RAM and Celeron processor. Vista ran fine for me on a machine with 1gb of RAM and an Athlon 64 x2. Vista Business x64 ran fine for me on a machine with 2gb of RAM and a Pentium D. Windows 7 Ultimate x64 runs fine for me on a system with 4gb of RAM and an Intel E5200.

  • No imagine running it on a 2GHZ PC now a days :D(still possible, very well possible)

  • @jruddock And Its less buggy than XP

  • @jruddock

jak na dzisiejsze czasy to wymagania są drobne i przez to system zostawia użytkownikowi duże rezerwy wydajnościowe

  • @jruddock LMAO! XD

  • @jruddock windows vista is very meteoker

  • Heh :-D Nice 5/5

  • YEAH, ALLEY CAT! my first ever game in a 286!

    Good Memories.. :D

  • No, just Dells. Dells suck. IBMs are much better.

  • Your opinion. I like Dells. =)

  • I have and hate mine. In fact, I am going to replace it for internet usage with a 1988 Macintosh SE, and I will only use my Dell as an adapter for my Macintosh SE (yes, it is possible to surf the web with an '80s Macintosh, but it is text only, which is all I need).

  • I used to play the last game when I was on elementary school :')

  • Is the OS compatible with mouse?

  • can u get an upgrade version from this to windows 7? i really dont wanna have to pay for the full one lol

  • what's the difference between Win 1.04 and Windows Vista? (I'm ironic in case you haven't observed)

    HAHAHAHA

  • @demoniccurses9:

Are you sure you don't mean 'sarcastic'? There really is no irony there :|

  • Well I'd better check up on those sales records!

    *Click*

    C>CD WINDOWS

    C>WIN. COM

*Awesome logo animation demonstrates jaw-dropping hardware capabilities*

    *Opens SALES.TXT*

    *Waits for 10 seconds*

"Well now, that's good! Looks like it's time to expand our industry!"

  • But we sure won't ever have to expand that *huge* memory of 640 kilobytes!

  • Faster than my PC.

  • WOW a clock

where can i get this nice clock?

  • WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD A FREE WINDOWS 1.04

    oops caps lock was on

  • If you give me your email in a PM i can send a windows 1.01 floppy image for virtual pc 2007.

  • One day in the future people will be pointing and laughing at our modern day OSs

  • I agree... maybe WE will be the ones doing that lol

  • One day, game consoles are going to run Pixar movies at 100 Frames Per Second... Then, we get to tell our grandkids about how it would take two years to make something it would take them not even a second to make.

  • That was around 1983 when ronald reagan was president,I was in my last year of high school, the reagan recession was at its worst and computers didnt do much for the thousands you paid for it.

I didn't buy my fist computer until 1998.

  • That's about as fast as my Vista notebook when the ram's having a really bad day, like today.

  • lol

  • a computer that does away with a mouse ;D

  • Hey - that is almost as fast as Vista on my work PC ... can I upgrade to this version please?

  • you'd be "upgrading" a long way back

  • Wow, it's nice to see how Windows evolved...

    *is using Windows 7 RC1*

  • ah good old clock.exe

  • 0:19 Windows boot with Microsoft animation! Windows Vista has not that T_T

  • This computer is without mouse, doesn't it?

  • a 20 mb hard drive...haha
