This is typical. Ask any non-Canadian why they believe their country is great and they'll make references to contributions to industry/science/history/cultu­re. Ask a Canadian and he'll phrase it in the form of "we're great because we're not like the USA in these ways..." It's sad and telling that the biggest example of Canadian patriotism in the last 20 years is the "I Am Canadian" beer commercial. Americans would be ashamed to have a commercial like this air.
