That was a CROC Birkin. multiply that 8 thousand some and you'll get the price of Martha's Birkin. Walk around Selfridges or Harrods in London, you will never see so many Birkins in your life. Seriously you can spot 10 just walking around Selfridges in the day.

Its up to the store manger,if they want to let you order a birkin,yea there is a list,but not many people in the know have ever been on it.you do need a relationship with a SA or store manger.But if you go to france, more often than not ,you can take home whatever birkin they have in store,without any wait.If your after a certain leather ,than at present there is a one month to 6 months wait time,from when they let you order..
I have recently purchaced a Birkin for my partner. It retailed at US$8100 I paid a $2000 deposit and i was told there was 2 yearswait to recieve finished product. If you think about it, you only have to save $250 a month for the duration of the two year wait and you will end up with an amazing bag and and a very very happy partner

If you want a birkin this is what you need to do ; call a hermes store near you, around the end of the month (salesgirl needs to boot up sales), tell them youre on holiday here and youre looking to buy a birkin. Ask if they have any cancel orders and if they have then you can buy and pay for it over the phone with you credit card.

I was at south coast plaza and saw, on display, an orange crocodile birkin with diamonds, it was something like 100 something thousand dollars. In case, through daily usage, one of the seams gets undone or cut somehow, the whole bag will not become unravelled. The single stitch can be fixed. Also, there is a youtube video on the construction of the bag somewhere on here but can't remember what it is. Hermes is the only designer to use this stitching method & is what makes it so pricey. Real quality.

They take a VERY long string (of the best possible quality, very durable) and they attack needles on both ends. They sew with both the needles and only at the very end do they cut off the little remaining thread left. And yes, if a thread gets torn through usage, THIS prevents it from ruining the entire bag.
Don't buy the Hermes hype. Their bags are well made but there are other houses that are making the same quality product for much less. When you buy a Birkin you are buying a status symbol- the brand.Hermes owns most of the crocodile tanneries so they control the prices. Demand has dropped- there is a surplus of skins & still charge ridiculous amounts. Each crocodile costs about $100 - Idc how much hand stitching Hermes puts into their bags ( a few hours worth) it's not worth the $20k markup!
I read his book a few years ago "Bringing home the Birkin". It was brilliant, very well written and very enlightening.
