If I remember, Jacques Villeneuve wouldn't allow his name on F1 games. It was the same with the World Grand Prix games on N64. But you could edit the name and just put his name in....pretty pointless really. Apparantly, he once said in an interview that he used to play these games and thought it would be strange seeing his own name in them. He was so into his video games he had a sticker of Super Mario in the cockpit of his Williams '97 car. It was kinda like his lucky charm.

I like the top view you can see cars that are behind trying to pass the PC version had this and you can go far enough pac too see 4 cars in back it made the game better then first person view with all the turns & slow spots on the track .

Best F1 game I ever played. IDK what they were thinking with the 98 version but it was garbage. And it pretty much kept going downhill after that. Really weird. You'd expect games to get better every year but with F1 games its the other way around.

Bought this game around '99 pre-owned and it kept freezing about 2-3 mins into a race. So i never got to play it. 2 days ago i found it in the loft and bunged it into the PS3, IT ONLY BLOODY WORKS!!!!! I finally get to see what all the fuss is about, this is quality, the sound is a bit Fkd up but it no longer freezes on me. SWEET

Probably the best Formula 1 I've played. I played some on the speccy, Amiga and later versions on the Playstation but this is my all time favourite. The graphics, the controls, the gameplay, the commentary. just great

Can't believe how good it still is after all these years, Even the commentary is superb as when murray mentions a drivers name during a sentence its done proper because unlike some games where you notice the gap when they mention a name in the middle/end of sentence in this game it sounds like its all part of the one sentence evn though its probably not.

This is the best and the hardest F1 game ever. Put it in professional mode with full damage and try and win the championship. I would say it is impossible! 98 was the worst F1 ever made!

This is the best F1 game i ' ve played never, i bought when i was 14, was fantastic because overtakings was very real, in this video player plays in easy level but if you play at hardest level costs much to win a championship, the last championship that i won in this game was with Tyrrell V8 !!! was very hard !!!!

Fairly easy, if I remember rightly! It was easy playing it 3 hours as a day as a kid 10 years ago though! Only annoying thing is if you have mechanical failures on, they appear without warning and the race just ends in a flash. I did all 58 laps in Melbourne once as Panis, lapped everyone twice and the engine blew up with 2 corners to go. Gutted!

This game was great, really quite difficult from what I remember. I was only 7-8 when I used to play this. This was one of the games I got with my psx back in xmas 97. I remember the unless im very much mistaken, and i am very much mistaken. I think that came out of our TV many times that xmas i was playing it all day. along with demo one, street racer and fifa 97

I remember having that game as a kid, racing at Jerez and the game crashed but Murray Walker was still doing the "commentary" on it, but in a cycle of phrases, and up popped "he's passed Jacques Villeneuve!".. cue confusion, as he wasn't actually on the game :D

The cut and paste commentary wasn't as bad as some other games I've played, most notably Rugby 2004 (or something like that) where John Inverdale's commentary really was abysmal. Also the graphics on that game was probably the worst graphics I have ever seen in a game ever. I actually felt offended that the developers of that game actually thought it was good enough to release.

But still, I found Murray and Martin on this game a pleasure!

Great game. Not actually the first F1 game on the PlayStation - the previous edition was based on the 1995 season and was almost as good. Things went downhill after this though, as the 1998 version was a dog of a game.

Villeneuve copyright issues were a shame. I remember when my game crashed and Murray was randomly saying different things and he did actually say "Jacques Villeneuve", so I guess it was recorded anyway but not used

Yep, I remember going into the sound files containing the commentary years ago and many things were recorded but not used in the game (Including references to Lola and it's drivers, as well as stop-go penalties). The Arcade commentator has many unheard lines (such as introducing the circuit, announcing drivers) too.
