He was looking for qucker a transport to get to Theed (going on foot ain't that pratical), and it is clearly shown in his talk with Boss Nass that he wanted to see if he could get the Gungans to help fiht back against the Trade Federation.

Also they where on the other side of the planet and Gungan City was the only city near, so to go there was the only way to get a transport. If they would have walked, it would have taken months to get to the other side. If Naboo has about the same size as earth, it be about 20.000 km (12.500 miles) away. And they also couldn't contact anyone, because the trade federation had interrupted all communications.

@rfvtgbzhn The Force can't be used for every illogical situation. That's a crutch for bad writing. Also, if you're correct, what transport were the Jedi expecting to get? The gungan city is entirely underwater. Presumably, their quickest modes of transport were aquatic. Naboo isn't entirely covered in water. There's land in between the bodies of water that do exist. No transport could take them to the capital, except for the one that went through the planet core, which I doubt they knew about.

@edgarasc1 Romance was even longer, there was many scenes which weren't included in the final movie, but they were filmed: tourist trip to Naboo and meeting PAdme's parents...Anakin's "familiy" is an adoptive one, a step-father and his half-brother...of course "Revenge" of the Sith is visually, the most attractive movie!! It was good to see Darth VAder, Yoda, the Death Star and the Emperor back on the screen again!!

@edgarasc1 I understand, I saw the original trilogy on TV when I was around 10-11 and I liked a lot!! (There was some figures from Kenner back then, I saw them in the toy stores but I was too small). But many details of the movies are connected with the old trilogym, like the scenes at Tatooine...The romance of Anakin was indeed...strange, Padmé should be at least 8 years older!

@edgarasc1 I like the duel of Darth Maul with the other Jedis, but I found the robot troopers very ridiculous, and Jar Jar Binks really terrible!! Maybe kids found them funny, but I prefer stormtroopers. From Attack of the Clones, I liked the clone factory in Kamino, but I didn't liked the bugs of Geinosis, but the last battle with stormtroopers was OK.

After they came out the Star Wars Universe expanded so much that everyone wanted to know more about the origins of Darth Vader and how the sith came to power, hence Episodes 1, 2, and 3
