I had a John deere generator that stopped generating power after a long period of storage. I found a tech bullitein where you used a 6 volt lantern battery to recharge the capacitor that excites the field. You simply hook the + of the battery to the + of the capacitor, and the - the same way, when its not running of course!. Then you reassemble the generator, start it and wah lah, it works like new again. This is a very little known trick!
