I live in Ann Arbor, MI, and I went to Chile, hoping on a peaceful vacation. But then, the night we were going to leave chile, I was woken up by a slight violent shaking. I remember it all. I ran under the doorpost, because we were on the 5th floor of an apartment building. It lasted about a minute and a half. A huge round TV fell on my grandma's leg, and severely bruised it. The chandelier was broken. I was thankful when it was over. In the morning there was a 1ft wide crack in the cobblestone.
I'm from Chile, and I can't get people saying "Idiots the didn't get cover or something"... for real at 12th floor and with that shake there is no safe place.... some people could easily just say fuck off nothing to do I'm dead, instead of staying up like this....
I give credit to the architect but seems everyone forgets one thing. Mother nature could have easily brought that and all the buildings down had the quake occurred closer to the surface. Same for Japan. Your guys earthquakes are very deep. And Chile was so lucky because this quake occurred near 3 major metro areas. Yes we do not get powerful quakes like that in So.Cal but our quakes are much closer to the surface sometimes less than a mile deep.
@merylrox22 I was thinking the same!!!! she knew it was coming... you can hear it coming.. if they were in the 12th floor is 100 times better to look for safety.
chilean regulations about constructions are very strict since the sixties for this big reason,,, so it's not a "great job" ,, it's just the required job!!
look at the two couples the man on the black jacket and the girl who also wears a olive green jacket looks like they're doin' something eii..?? hahahahahaha
man that's crazy they're lucky the building is strong enough to protect them ow hail mama marry! :D the only thing that comes down on their shirt is the dust of the building! SO SO LUCKY!
@educatedlime well the christchurch one happened when i was in the toilet. worst possible death, all i was thinking was " I DONT WANT TO DIE IN MY OWN PISS!"
I have survived 5 different earthquakes in different location. I know it is heart-racing experience for those who first experienced it. The highest point that I felt was 7.2, it was bad enough to see everything around me shaking. The lowest one was 3.8 enough to feel it while I was in bed. But none of my earthquake experience could be compared to the one I see on this video. This is a mind blown and I bet it is terrified.
@Deesighfa There are indeed signs that an earthquake is about to happen. Such as a weird rumbling sound from underneath the ground, And if you're in a house you can hear the glass and walls creaking before you actually feel the quake. Animals have also been proven to sense an earthquake before humans. It is a terrible experience, I was in the 7.1 New Zealand earthquake last month and I wouldn't want to feel on ever again!
The stairs would by far seem the safest. You'd be stupid to go in an elevator, and hanging around the 12th story building waiting for aftershocks isn't ideal.
OMG! Thats so scary! :O The girl on the bottom of the screen is clinging to her man! What a hero, He's gaurding her. Cute couple but, not the stiuation. Ive been through an earthquake like that in the middle of the night! Scary ! :(

Note to self: Do not buy a condo in a high rise building along the San Andreas Fault just in case of 6.0+ magnitude earthquake.
