i hate to nitpick, but humans ARE animals. framing the discussion with this "human vs animal" idea is misleading. it should be made clear by saying "non-human species".
Humans have an ego and animals don't. The only get in a bind when their food supply is threated or basic essentials. Humans get into a bind over belief systems etc. So to have will and not be able to execute it is really bad. The implication is that animals are smarter and or more compassionate. The 2 are 1 in the same.
Animals ARE smarter than human animals...they, especially cats and dogs, master unconditional love, while we human morons master hate, war, speciesism, racism, sexism,ignorance and arrogance.

Generally, people only care much about morality if they are happy. People who don't have (what they consider) enough will have a weaker moral compass, and will focus on the negatives. This generally means the very poor, or consumerists who don't have enough. This also means people with power, because as we all know most people with a good amount of power will want more. People with power are also more likely to hate others because having power means being able to do so without punishment.
Exactly, and many, if not most humans, only care about money and idolize their materials.
To love all life, to care for nature and even aliens, that is far more valuable than any form of money. Most humans have forgot that, they've forgot how to live with nature, and that is our demise.
