What is so bad about Google collecting data about their users and profiting? It isn't like Google is collecting your data to sell it. There are millions of searchs and people using Chrome everyday. It would be fruitless for a Google employee to sit down and review what an individual is doing -- not to mention that Google cannot possibly know who is using the computer. The only reason it is done is so ads can be made more relevant, and therefore Google makes more profit.
If you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear. I don't care if they give my number to a few telemarketers, I can hang up. I've accepted that it is indeed a myth, but alas, I am doing nothing illegal.
it is. especially when you use add-ons (you don't have to, but they're the main reason for using FF to start with). another thing is that FF uses SQLite databases for keeping history, bookmarks etc. and SQLite is slow as fuck. that's why there's all those "database vacuum cleaning" external apps & add-ons for it. try to drag&drop 100 bookmarks from one folder to another in its bookmark manager see how long it takes. it's rewriting the whole datatable. in Opera, Chromium? it takes no time at all
Right... the government is spying on 315,534,716 people through Google.. That's the logical answer. Oh and specially You sir, They know about your "porn" and "illegal" activities. BTW I didn't get that from the government, but from your video in Youtube.
...and he talks about privacy, @gotbletu please get your head out of your ass.
Next he's gonna try to convince people Elvis is alive.
just go hide in cave. You'll get your privacy and you'll do everyone a favor.
loL maybe u should stop sucking donkey dick. I already said i use google stuff, i only want to use less of it moron. Who was talking about the government in this video? ur bringing crap in that was not said by me. U think i just make shits up? go read on the side link, u just fail son lmao
P.S no shit youtube is owned by google, u just knew that?
Chromium is Chrome without the closed source Google code... However, Chromium still has some issues with privacy... even if it's open source. Don't ask me what... I dunno. But that's why there is Iron... a browser based on Chromium that removes the privacy infringing code from Chromium... But it's buggy.
I use FF coz I love my addons... and when I need a speedy browser, I fire up Rekonq (I'm running KDE). It uses webkit and has a minimal interface. Pretty much KDE's Chrome.
online privacy is a myth. the sooner we accept it the better. iron browser as of now is just way too buggy for use. however the point is, google collects data and improves services, thats the important part. now i can get results from google chrome's address bar even before i have hit enter! beat that! i dont know, but if google is giving me awesome services, i'm willing to sacrifice a bit of my privacy.
@TheArnabDas; it is possible to be completely private using an SSH server/ Proxy and knowing about the web service you are using.
With the Iron Browser its only in Beta right now for Linux so there may be bugs. But it's not in Beta for Windows or Mac so...
Though I like Google in certain respects, there's others that I could do without.. (especially if they lost my trust in certain things...) I mean they made 4 Billion dollars in one year once right? The question is... How?
Yeah. After using Chrome I pretty much stopped using FireFox when I could. There are still some website that don't work with Chrome so I have to use FireFox.
After investigating Chromium, I found out that this browser collects data too...
According to SRWare Iron, they have a browser based on the Chromium source code which is designed specifically for privacy. Something that according to SRWare the Chromium browser can not do. For more info on SRWare check their Wiki or srware . net/en/
This is a quote from their website on their FAQ page: "Can't i just use an precompiled unchanged Chromium-Build from the Google Server?
This is not useful because the original Chromium-Builds have nearly the same functions inside than the original Chrome. We can only provide Iron because we massively modified the source."
Their normal website is originally in German so I guess they have a bad translator. Regardless of this, I recommend checking out their FAQ page.
yeah i use Iron, it's pretty good. ChromePlus (another Chrome fork) is also supposed to have been "anonimized" like Iron, but although it's got more out-of-the-box extra features than Iron, it's also slower and seemingly more buggy for some reason. btw i'm on Windows i can't comment on Linux versions. as for Firefox i said bye after the 3.6 upgrade i'd had enough of this bs. maybe in future i'll give it another go but for now i can't be bothered
@vibovitold; "ChromePlus" I've never heard of this one. Interesting.
Regarding Firefox, the only thing I like about Firefox is its privacy settings. Other than this Firefox can get pretty bloated with a lot of addons... (Though I still haven't investigated Firefox fully to swear by it's privacy settings).
you know the problem with Chrome architecture, and hence even with Iron is that its extensions store all their data in cookies! this means that if you delete cookies, their settings are wiped off as well. and you can't do this selectively, so basically you are forced to keep all cookies. well you can rely on your AV to delete the tracking cookies but it's still a big minus in my book which i'm just putting up with for now in hope that's one of the things they gonna improve
by the way, Comodo has only just released another Chromium-based browser for the "tin-foiled hat crowd" - it's called Dragon but to be honest, it's far from impressive at first glance :)
@gotbletu I use uTorrent for so called illegal file sharing and I use Chrome. I've never had a problem. No one has ever said they were prosecuted or charged after being spyed on due to using uTorrent. If you're worried about being spied on, avoid Vuse which pretty much is torrent tracker supported by media companys.
like i said b4 i dont trust them, just because no one got in trouble so far doesnt guarantee anything. So if u like to wait around until something happens and then switch is up to u. Same goes for my example with google toolbar
privacy is not just about "legal problems". it's like when you're taking a shower - you probably wouldn't want some old pervert peeking at you right. it doesn't matter that it wouldn't cost you anything and certainly wouldn't give you any legal issues. privacy is privacy - it's a matter of principle, first and foremost.
@vibovitold; Not only is privacy a matter of principal but it has been used against us by the government.
Here in the states, the government has been known to subpoena Google for info on it's citizens. After George W Bush Jr. signed into law that they could keep tabs on its citizens, pretty much everyone's privacy rights have been compromised.
It's not Google's fault they HAVE to comply with the laws, but if this government wanted to they could abuse it which goes against the Constitution.
@XMacWizardX; Well its not like I hate Google or anything like that. In fact, I like certain Google services for some things.. But of course this comes with the knowledge that I know what I'm getting into.
What I don't like is when they do things without my knowledge or contrary to what they are advertising.
They advertise private browsing on their browser... but is it truly private? Its like what 'gotbletu' said, "I want to have the option of disabling the data tracking..."
Hey all, leave him alone, everyone is entitled to have their own level of paranoia, I have mine and I'm happy with it, LOL

Chrome AND Chromium both send many data to Google
Everytime you type a letter into the adressbar it's sent to Google for searching the web. That is how they collect Data.
But Google isn't that bad they make over 90% of their money through advertizing!
The only Money google does make from your data is because this data helps them make better adverts for you, so you may click them more often.
