Every trip up there, I find more trash scattered on that mountain by moron wilderness seekers which is more devastating than any Adventure seeker such as this . And for those who never dare to dream with the up most respect for our mother earth, would never understand the pure pleasure of exploring her during your short visit.
In an age (and country) where so few individuals dream to adventure anymore I am happy that this man was able to make this flight and also clear his name. The judge ruled in his favor--Google paraglider Katadin. And in response to comments I've read elsewhere: The gear laid down to protect the landing site was hiked out by the gliders friends. I know this guy and he treads more lightly on the earth than most American's without a doubt. A wonderful accomplishment!
Why are hang gliders illegal? It'd think they would be safer. In given day in European Alps there are dozens of gliders in the sky. On another note, there's 'some kid' who flies around Bangor in a motorized paraglider last few summers. It's cool, he's rather amazing, but supprising no one has tried to arrest him or sight him for something. He flies right over the town, all around, no joke, motorized fans behind his seat gliding with a paraglider.
This is awesome. This guy is obviously skilled , to have glided off the face of Katahdin in such a determined manner. I understand that he did not disturb anything where he chose to land, some 40 minutes after he launched. Why this activity is prohibited while snowmobiles are allowed on the Perimeter road is highly predjucial.
20. MOTORCYCLES, ATV'S, BICYCLES and PARASAILING: Motorcycles, motorized trail bikes, and all-terrain vehicles are prohibited within the Park. Bicycles are allowed on maintained roads only with the exception of roads in the Scientific Forest Management Area (SFMA) where bicycles are prohibited. No person shall fly, cause to be flown, or permit any model craft, hot air balloon or hang gliding device of any kind in the Park..
and you always will be... I climbed the Abol trail with this guy in the middle of the night during a full moon 30 years ago. Breakin' the law, breakin' the law.

"I hope you get caught and fined..."
Just to clarify, I was not the one paragliding nor do I know who it was. I was just a hiker behind a camera.
