I live in California still. Back in the 50's in the early morning just before sunrise I could see the flash of the A-bomb test . About a half an hour later I could hear the boom. Many times over the years.
This is why nuclear weapons (and explosions in general) are more powerful on Earth than in space. With air to absorb atomic energy, the air can heat up and turn the radiation energy into kinetic energy.
In space, all you have is the bits of the bomb, and radiation. Massive, massive radiation.
@CarlosBcn1989 The trees aren't even there naturally--they were installed before the test and anchored into the desert floor. Moreover, what happened there in Frenchman Flat, Nevada on May 25, 1953, did virtually nothing to "the planet." You fucking retard.
that's a strange thing to say. i never thought of it like that.... i guess it's beautiful in a sense of the awe that it instills in you...like some unstoppable godly force.
not really. It depends on the distance. I would say that the initial explosion happened about ten to fifteen miles from the trees, about half of the bombs diamater. (depending on the kilo) Judging by the time it took for the shockwave to get to the bomb the tress probably would not have turned to ash.
the EPA is not happy.....
