We are not a democratic nation! We are a Republic big difference! We are governed not by the mob but by a strict set of laws called the Constitution! The Central Government was GIVEN a small area of rule, everything else was the power of the different states and to the people. We have come a long way and have all but destroyed our Constitution. Time to get a copy of it out and read it for yourself!
@KKKSuperFan how am i intolerant? your the one who has KKK in your name. All i am saying is if you dont like it then leave because its people like you that help give this country a bad name. we dont need people who criticize the country of not being a democracy when this is the best place in the world to live (as far as human rights go)
@mike56223 just sayin'... representing australia! we're pretty good down here too... apart from the whole gay marriage thing, we pretty much have it set... :D
last time i checked the UNITED STATES IS A REPUBLIC!!!!!!!!!
"I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of American, AND TO THE REPUBLIC!!! for witch it stands, One Nation Under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justece for all"
why not leave the language out and just post your opinion so that everyone of all ages can read without the foul mouth. If you don't like what you are listening or watching then get off!!!!
I'm a patriotic Englishman and I'm happy to admit that Britain was in the wrong here. Interestingly our then leader, King George III was actually insane. We didn't get another mad leader until Thatcher!
And what a waste of all that tea! You could have had that tea at midday with clotted cream and scones
Article 4, Section 4 of the United States Constitution. "The United States Government shall guarantee to every State in this Union a 'Republican Form of Government', and shall protect each of them against Invasion.
R you that remedial? Democracy is Mob rule, 51% can take away 49%'s rights where the government can scare the population into giving up their rights and easily establish a totalitarian form of government. A Republic a state in which sovereign power is invested in representative chosen by the people to govern, and government is the people and its from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
Nice try, but Read your Constitution and Declaration of Independence little boy
way to go you did some research, i know what they both are...Iv taken government before. The size the country is it would almost be impossible to have a republic form of state. And expanding federal government doesnt make it any easier
The fundamental difference between Democracy and Republicanism is that Democracy is the rue of the peoplr, wheras a Republic is the rule by law. I think we are a Republic b/c of our unique features, like the filibuster, the electoral college, states' rights, seccession, the veto, and the COnstitutional Amendment. The Constitution requires we have a republic. But, I wish the gov't were smaller...
Who kicked Britain's ass? think you'll find it was the french army, dutch army and spanish forces. That's right, you relied on the french to win a war. Oh dear, take the shame man, take the shame! Or would you like to think you did it by yourselves? Snigger!
@apincle im English..that was a main factor yes mayb we could have sent more forces without the Spanish and French navy to worry about, but even if it was just America we would have sent more men to beat there army,
but then they would have become guerrillas with the whole of America to hide in and defeating guerrillas is no easy task
America would likely never win with just its guerrilla war tactics alone. Victory was achieved in part through a combination of practical field tactics and guerrilla tactics.
Without support from Britain's rivals, the ragtag would end up fighting without the support of the military leaders who ACTUALLY gave them victory.
And should Britain's economy become stable again, the overall rallying cry for independence may have eventually become unnecessary anyway, ending all partisan activity.

Democracy also puts people into Minorities, giving one Minority Power of the others, it is quite a racist form of Government if you ask me.
besides we are Supposed to be a "Constitutional Republic" where each and everyone of us have individual liberties that cannot be taken away from us.
before you go running your mouth, you may want to do your research first.
