I've read that his string used to get out of tune because he uses the whamy bar soo much, it was even common for him to stop in the middle of conserts to re-tune the strings.

hendrix was a horrible guitarist, try listening to him sober, i just cant do it anymore, drugs dont make someone great, eddie van halen, now hes a great guitarist, hell roy clark could out play hendrix, but if all you want is noise then listen to hendrix all you want. hes horrible! the only thing that made hendrix great was the legend of a drug abuser.

@1damitdan Just to point out how horrible he was, he was taken out of a local pub he played in by Eric Clapton and others to jam. He picked up their right handed guitars (Jimi is left handed) and started playing loads of well known songs and random solos. Note this mate, if you can play a guitar upside down and reverse and still pull off some crazy stuff and NOT be called a legend, then you have very very high standards of what legendary is. Point proven.

@GuitarManOne100 When you're on stage, some times it's impossible to tune up. You (that is IF YOU are a musician) can bend enough of the strings to correct and compensate. Hendrix has for the most part done that.

It is out of tune, but he's also tuned to Eb not the standard open E. The tremolo bar (whammy bar) also had a tendancy to knock fender guitars out of tune. So between his playing 'backwards' (he played a regular righty-guitar, lefty so the slanted pickups were opposite how they were designed to be which messes with intonation & tuning) , the de-tuning to Eb, and trem bar all three contribute to being out of tune.
