  • People look at eyes ffs stop arguing what he is saying

  • @TomoSLB nice to see your aware this being is no human

    peace

  • i am a alien 2

  • stop spending shut down the unions. drill for oil in our waters

  • It must be easy to talk about eliminating "entitlements" and health care for your constituents when your family has millions of tax-sheltered dollars in the bank. Big business and their lobbyists have already destroyed the middle class that made America and our economy great. Now your oil buddies are transferring what's left of working families' resources to the rich while my customers are supposed to support my business when they're working $9-10 jobs with no benefits. Who's kidding who?

  • I say shut the government down. Reagan did it several times. Put the federal government on a four day work week for everyone but essential services. How much could we save that way? Of course that would mean you guys go to an HOURLY wage instead of the fat salaries you get now, but if we can do it, why shouldn't Capitol Hill?

  • Don't blame me, I voted for Lee Fisher!

  • I see quite a bit here about oil. Why do so many demand that we as a nation not use our natural resources? If we go get our oil we are less dependent on opec. That is a good thing. As far as taxes. Congressman Rob Woodall of GA is taking the lead on enacting the Fair Tax. Before commenting on the Fair Tax please educate yourself. Do not just claim what you hear from politicians to be be fact. The Fair Tax would be the largest transfer of power from gov. to the people since our nation was born.

  • @bbtjerky - why dont you look at the taxes per gallon. I guarentee that you'll see almost $1 per gallon in taxes. In some states like PA, NY and now MD they are talking about adding another $.10 per gallon. For every tank of gas we pay $15-20 in taxes. Hows that sound?

  • @cms2533 I was talking about the Fair Tax. And if you are talking the same, you are close, but just a little over. You do know that with the Fair Tax. The IRS would be eliminated, the 16 amendment would be repealed and you would get 100% of your pay check. Right? That should give you enough to pay that gas tax, for sure. Plus you would get a prebate up to the poverty level. A better way. The Fair Tax. Search for it.

  • Has anyone thought, maybe get big oil to quit gouging the public with high gas prices. High gas prices are going to hurt not help! Go after them . All they want is profit they don't give a dam about the middle class or poor.

  • Please reduce the debt. How about defunding the Department of Education? They are not doing anything helpful anyway. How about amending the health care legislation to allow health care savings accounts. Let's reward people who stay healthy instead of penalizing them. Let's develop sustainable national energy programs and let the oil demand lessen. How about an across the board income tax of 10%. Oh, drat, that means some people who have never paid taxes will have to do so. What a shame!

  • I think people like Portman are the problem, the republicans won't work with any any one but the fat cats. The working class is on its way out and Mr. Portman supports the rich getting richer and the working class getting poorer. They tell us to take up our belts but you never see them doing it.

  • Since the gap between poor and rich is growing with the tax plans we have in place it is clear the GOP wants to create a two tier country.

If we don't invest in health and education (including how to be healthy) we will decline. Part of the investment is spending wisely (like reducing farm subsidies for corn that goes into soda that fosters obesity) so rethinking what we spend over the entire government program is critical.

  • keep the good work up for the USA and help the american people

  • Dear Senator Portman,

We could have been in better financial order if we did not renew the tax cuts for the rich. We would be in better financial order if we would STOP the big gifts to the oil companies. We would be in better finalcial order if Republicans would work with Democrates and Democrates work with Republicans to work for the people of this country and not for big business. Why are people in Washington fearful to tax business if they move their work force out of America!!

  • Regarding dependence on other Countries for our oil, why ? If I need groceries for my own table, I don't rely on my other neighbors to sell me theirs. I go out and buy my groceries from a nearby store in my own CITY. Over simplification maybe, but you get the idea. Or is it that those with an agenda to keep us dependent on other Countries, are making it a harder issue than it is ?

  • How about just cut 1-2% across the board no exceptions. For every $1 you spent last year you only get to spend $.98-.98 this year. You can not tell me that there is any government dept that can't do without one or 2 cents on every dollar! I have in the last 6 months had to cur our budget by $100's a month as husband is laid off. If I can do it they can. Just quit the arguing about details, that's where the turf wars end up derailing any meaningful reductions in spending.Less talk more action!

  • Enough already with the talking points, what are you going to do! Businesses that have done more with less means people were perhaps overworked!

Stop talking about what was done and tell us what you are going to do, that makes sense.

Reduction of spending across the board means some people will lose thier jobs, certain services that are vital to the running of our society, be specific with what you inteed to cut and why.

Blame should go to both sides, but I want to hear concret solutions!

  • Enough of the rhetoric, we're heard plenty. Now is the time for action! So far all we have got from you is slick informationals, professionally crafted to sway the marginally educated. Talks cheap, as my grandpappy use to say. It's time to step up and do something. Quit the bickering among your peers, work out solutions that will solve the problems. That's why you were elected. We need less speeches and more solutions! Get to work!

  • I think that sums up the issues nicely. I do want the Congress to scrub everything for savings. Every subsidy we are paying (oil, crops, etc), every program in every department and every committment overseas we send dollars to. There are programs from the EPA paying college professors to take trips to Moracco to test village water supplies. Why? And then there is the tax system. I would like an open debate on the Fairtax. It is time.

  • How much of the cuts in government spending is directly going to tax cuts for the wealthy?

  • The first comments I sent uou seems to have been cut off, so I'll send it again.

Are you going to let President Obama continue to forbid drilling for oil in our country and off shore? I and many others believe the possible loss of oil may well be worse than the problems of today.

There is one more thing I would like to say and that is you must stop Obama and the Democrats reckless spending which in the future will, without question, cause the failure of America.

  • I believe, that maybe a cure for our economy is close the floodgates on medicare, and medicaid, social security, and ssi,to the masses that haven't paid a cent for it,and why the rest of the world doesn't have"anchor babys".Also stop the foreign aid,are they afraid they"ll start charging us too much for oil,or maybe not help us when we need it? Whata joke!

Please,WE NEED YOUR HELP.WE CAN'T SUPPORT THE WORLD,OR SOLVE ALL IT'S PROBLEMS,WE HAVE TOO MANY OF OUR OWNThank you,a veteran, retired.

  • Senator Portman,

I liked your speech, but there is one thing that bothers me. You said all the right things about the economy, our job losses, and the problems with the Middle East oil crises, but you didn't say what Congress is going to do about the unrest in the oil producing countries. If the problems spread which I 100% believe will happen, we could be without oil which will cause our economy and job loss to increase many times over and could cause our downfall. Are we going to let Presid

  • Dear Senator Portman, Thanks so much for representing us in Washington DC. We can all sleep a lot better, knowing you are helping to correct so much of what our President has done to drag this Country down! Keep up the good work!!

  • Senator Portman, you are absolutely correct as far as I and many others in the United States are concerned. As a citizen of Ohio, we have a lot of issues with people out of work and companies leaving our state. So do a lot of other states. Please keep up the good work, the people of Ohio are behind you!

  • 100% behind you Senator Portman. We as a nation must get our financial house in order and reduce the trillions that we now owe and will pass on to our children. If we as a nation want to create jobs and keep taxes low. We must control the spending. There are many departments that are now under federal control that I feel should be eliminated and handed back to the states where local government is better. One being the dept. of education. I ask you to contact Cong. Rob Woodall about the Fair Tax

  • It is interesting that when I listen to a Republican talk, I understand what they are saying and it makes sense. When I listen to a Democrat, I hear blame and double talk that makes very little sense. I like what I hear from Senator Portman. I would like to see us all get behind him and support the direction to improve job growth, simplify regulations, and create an environment to boost our economy.

  • Senator Portman

In these dark days of an out of control government continue to spread your light of common sense.
