All they wanted was better service delivery, which ZANU PF was not providing, so MDC offered something competitive, so to win votes Mugabe created division within the hearts of Zim's. Since many Zim's had nothing, how could they refuse the land grab? This has everything to do with money, votes and power. Sadly, 60000 whites and 10 million blacks are suffering now.
