ALSO AT THE 2 03 MARK JDILLA SAMPLED THE DO IT PART FOR ANOTHER BEAT CALLED DO IT WHICH I HAVE , I THOUGH THIS BEAT WAS HOT TILL I HEARD DO IT I NEARLY LOST MY MIND
OOOOO FUCK, i never really took the time to figure out that J dilla used this band for the sample in waves.... i just found out of them because their rubber bullets song. j dilla was straight just fucking plain creative. i feel you jay dee, rest in peace! god bless that whom hear real hip hop, and those whom don't as well.
Wow, Dilla continues to amaze me, over and over again! I only knew one 10ccs' song before the donuts album. He sample Worst Band In The World from these guys too. Genius, pure genius. He ability to manipulate sounds the way he did... the intricate, and detailed craftsmanship he gave to each song is phenomenal!!! DILLA!!!! R.I.P
Yo its so CRAZY! all of the tracks on donuts had a subliminal messages he left about his death, like in "Welcome to the Show" he sampled "Motherlode - When I Die" and "Waves" was a message to his brother John...Dilla sampled "Johnny Don't Do It" as a message meaning "John don't cry"...its like he knew he wasnt gonna make it
@5thElementArts Of course he knew and he worked on this so hard, that the inflammation in his hands were killing him bad, all the swelling. "Donuts" was his grand opus because on so many levels, we heard his pain thru the beats, how jilted yet complex the beats were and how they jackknifed into one another only told how weary his last days were.
He was on a mission to finish Donuts with all he had. And now we have all but of a summary of who James Yancey was in "Donuts"
It is fucking insane how he flipped this. I would never even think to sample this. I wouldn't even notice the sample if I just heard this song playing.
just found an original pressing of this album today. got it for 5 bucks. steal. strangely enough, i found it at a radio shack that happens to have crates upon crates of vinyl. if thats not a crate diggers diamond in the rough then im not sure what is.
I never thought about turning a waltz time signature into 4/4 until I heard Donuts. Mind you Dilla was doing that long before most people caught on. Craziness.
Kevin was the drummer thats correct but Kevin was the Low bass vocal an it was Lol Cream who took the high vocals. If your no sure pls listen to Donna recorded by Lol Cream Kevin was always Bass. Trust me I Know!.
I always thought that Graham had the bass voice, but now I seem to recall reading an interview years ago where Kevin claimed to have the highest AND the lowest singing voice. Whatever the case, they were ALL geniuses,Why they did not become superstars,I'll never know By the way,I saw the video of "Donna" and you are right about that. But check out "Don't Hang Up",for Kevin's solo and Lol's FALSETTO voice. John
I have a 10cc box set and I never noticed that Waves came from this, then again it isnt one of my favorite tracks off there, still even with the dude showing me were the sample is its still not that obvious
@saxmasta240494 na he patched phrased the sample, you can slow down the BPM but it wont actually slow down the recording and then he prob time pitched it or slowed it down a little he patched phrased alot of the shit on donuts
aww shit, dilla was crazy..nobody could have flipped this sample like he did it...incredible, BUT there are even better songs on donuts...due to that its one of the best albums ever
how did DILLA do that shit man......?
