Read post below first, sorry, shoulda done this backwards.
2. Could you explain WHY you like finder better? just saying there ARE more pros than cons to it, doesn't help those you're trying to persuade into moving.
3. For people on a budget, and those who don't like wasting money, if they already have a PC, don't switch over just for the file menu bar and finder.
I'll be watching #2 and see if there is anything good or bad about it.
Firstly, I'd like to say I'm a windows user, and hopefully always will be, but we'll wait and see on that.
1. If you have multiple programs on screen instead of having to go to click on the window then going up there, you can go directly to the file bar on that window. Also the amount of space they take up is about half an inch. If you're in dire need of that half an inch, you might want to get a new monitor not a new apple computer.
You crashed iMovie, but that is not the same as saying the OS crashed. I have had programs crashed, but OS X itself, has never crashed. Used to be that OS X would pop up: 'iMovie crashed, the OS and other programs have not been effected."
Glad you like the Mac; couldn't picture my life with out one!
I wouldn't call myself a PC hater; I would, however, say that you are probably more accustomed to your PC, which is fine. I am not a zealot who believes everyone should switch to Mac, which would create a monopoly most likely resulting in a complete halt of innovation.
Understand what I mean by boot up. Yes it does boot to the log on window quick enough; it is the after login that is slow. So I suppose it depends on what programs automatically start on system startup. Windows, including Vista, doesn't handle that well and the computer is bogged down and unusable while it waits for those programs to start. So while yes I could turn those off and it would become usable much quicker why should I have to.
I get the bluescreen only on very rare occasions on my PC. My biggest problem, as I have explained, is it running slow, and by that I mean how long it takes it to load programs, especially at boot up. That and how laggy the computer is after leaving it sitting for a while. Problems that I do not have on a mac.
hmm, he didn't sayd why he likes finder better, he only said why the WindowsExplorer is better, but his conclusiun was that Finder is better !?!
A cold Apple Boot takes also a couple minutes. And starting windows out from the Hibernating only takes 1 to 10 seconds.
I had an Mac mini and my applications crashed very often. THey just got frozen, no message from the mac... after lik5 min the window closed and my data was lost.
Windows users don't know how to work macs. They expect their programs to crash, from Windows experience, and so they do. :)
Seriously, though, what kind of shoddy Fox News analysis is "While a Mac takes 2 minutes to boot up, a Windows comp takes only 10 seconds to wake from hibernation."
Guess what? macs wake from hibernation in 10 seconds, too. And I have never seen a Mac take 2 minutes to boot. How much crap did you have on that thing?
That shouldn't really make a difference in boot time. I had a 250GB SATA. Maybe you are lucky. Not sure. All of the computers at my office give me the same problems. Did you do anything to optimize boot time?
Not really, i had all the standard stuff load at bootup such as Virus protection (Mcafee) Windows Live Messenger AIM Google Talk and ATI's dashboard deal. I'm runnin 4gig's of ddr2 as well. Pentium D dual core with 1mb L2cache for eache core. lol maybe it's just a hit and miss thing. I did however Hand pick updates for windows instead of just letting it do it's thing automaticly. Who knows.
Hrmm.. Could be a hit and miss thing, or the hand picking. You never know with windows, it can be so touchy. Might be 4 gigs of RAM to though. Nice.. :) You pretty much don't have to worry about what you have open and running...
I think the end all though is just Personal Preference, Both of their really good sides and both have their negatives. I don't think there is a definitive which is better.
I am not going to argue that point with you. Mac certainly isn't for everyone and neither is windows. I know some people who have had both and prefer their linux systems. In the end it always comes down to preference no matter which may be better on paper. :)
question i was wondering, what about the program which only run on PC, MatLab, .net Visual studio, Labview, and other professional softwares. i m engineering student and i really want to get iMac but i want to make sure it will run these programs.
I have iMovie 06 on my Mac, but I have no idea how you use the built in web cam to record via the program itself to make a Youtube video like you have done so. Any idea's???
Just under the where it display movie clips is a little slider looking switch. Click it to move it to the left side and that will set it to feed from iSight or whatever camera you have plugged in and a record button will appear. :)
seems really cool, and looks like now your more chilled, when u were on pc u were more wound up haha. well im waiting to get into college and for leapord to come out to get myn but i cant wait!
Thanks. I have no regrets with the decision to get my iMac. It has been great. If your are thinking about getting one, though, I would suggest (if you can) going by a local apple store or apple reseller and playing around on one for an hour or so just to make sure you will be ok with the different ways it works from Windows.
You have made a great decision, I love my MacBook Pro, that its the only computer on my desk now, its faster than any windows PC I have owned in the past.
wow
points go to whoever can work out who are the Windows lovers here.

At 3min 35sec, you say "No shit, I would have never... blah blah blah.."
then you say. "It doesn't always tell you", well what is it, do you need it to tell you or not?
and don't slam on your mouse with your hotdog fingers and it won't break.

I had to use a mac in art class.. I had a rash on my hand for a week because of it..
Dude when on mac something doesnt work, its your fault and with windows its windows fault?
When my Word crashes it too has a backup file (autosave anyone?).
Maybe you're just used to mac now?
Oh and btw my last bluescreen was because I tried to cause one ;) (used the cryengine1 sandbox editor).
Other than that, I have absolutly NO problems with my XP and I havent got any updates or stuff...

Well, he said that he liked the fact that the filebar as opposed to attached to every window.
He said that there were things he 'missed' about Explorer. He also pointed out that OSX is different from Windows.
I also must point out. Hibernation is not a cold boot.
Plus my iMac doesn't take 2 minutes to boot.

Just run Windows on a separate partition to run those applications.
If you partition it FAT32, then you can read and write to the partition while in OSX, which comes in handy for me.
Another solution is Parrallels or VMware for mac.
