  • Pati seit dziedaju, mana kora dirigents bija J. Zirnis... Tagad sezu sava biroja talu no Latvijas un atceros. nenozeloju, bet ir savadi...

  • if Arian race exist in this world, then only in Latvia and Lithuania! Greetings to the best Brothers!

  • Latvian is one of two Baltic languages. Prussian, the third, is extinct. Finnish is a Finno-Ugric language while Russian is a slavic language. Latvian and Lituanian are among the oldest languages in the world with direct links to Sanskrit. Cross-use of words is common in the baltic region -- strategic because of its geographic location. There are latvianized words from many cultures dating back to at least the 13th century. IMO: This song is great and Janis Zirnis is a talented director.

  • From Beginning To End

Song, with what did you begin?

With a low whisper that was within,

That shuddered a cry to many men.

It was pain, a sigh, a cheap grin.

It was a bright beam known to herein

It was a cry from beginning to end.

  • ai,cik skaisti,tirpas pilnīgi pārskrēja klausoties.:)

  • Latvijā paliks tikai tie, kam ir spēks... Esmu šeit Latvijā, un palikšu.

  • @drossirdis Spēks ir neizmērāma lieta... Apgalvot, ka spēcīgāki ir tie, kas paliek, nebūtu īsti godīgi - pamēģini jebkad pamest visu, ko pazīsti ^^

  • Mīlu Latviju :*

  • I just love this ... how many times have I viewed this video? .. so many times, but it's never enough.

    Paldies paldies paldies paldies

from ..still an exile in Australia

  • @40bcoots I view and listen to this song almost everyday! Each time I feel it is the first time that I do that.. I wished I were there!

  • @basheer977 "I wished I were there!" so do I. Maybe, the next festival

  • @basheer977 .. I don't want to hear it everyday ...it helps to keep my patriotism going ... I don't want to tire of it )))))))))))

(I also prefer the other version of it, where the colours are not darkened .. & burnt that version to dvd)

    Briva Latvija.

  • @basheer977 ... I was there for the Riga 810 svetki ... my first time in Latvia. It was coming home .. at last.

The Liel Koncert in Mezaparks was absolutely wonderful esp the entrance chant as the singers took their positions. Amazing. So pagan.

    Latvia for Latvians.

  • Reiz biju uz Menueta koncertu 90 gadu beigas. Vinji svineja atkalapvienoshanos. Visi staveja kaajaas kad sho dziesmu menuets dziedaaja :)

  • proud to be Latvian

  • Angliski gan nepareizi iztulkots, pareizi jābūt šādi!

Song, what you begin with? Lūk tā būtu jābūt!

How did you begin, tulkojās, kā tu sācies, nevis ar ko tu sācies!

    Diezgan liela kļūda! ;)

  • Спасибо.

  • Heavenly melody sang by angels! Dievs, Svētī Latvija.. One of few in Europe which is still sticking to its traditions!

  • @milaoga1 tas Priecē tad jau tiekamies 2012 gada dziesmu svētkos?

  • @bublegum1983 Also- I don't have to shut up because I still have freedom of speech for now. Stalin wanted to kill my family. My family had land in Latvia and we still own land in Latvia. So don't even go there about propaganda. Stalin was a murderer and US helped him.

  • Excuse me but you misunderstood my comment. I must not have clarified. My mother sang in many Latvian song festivals every year when she was alive in Vancouver Canada, in San Francisco CA and Portland Oregon. I know very well about USSR and USA propaganda. I am an American Latvian. My mother was very famous Latvian artist. She sung solo -had her paintings in art galleries around USA for her Latvian Women in Costume. Her poetry book was passed around in Latvia behind Iron Curtain.

  • Beautiful song that brings tears to my eyes. My mother used to sing this song at Latvian song festivals. She did not get to live to see the exciting day when her dream that Latvia would be free from USSR would come to pass. She was killed when she was 40 yrs old. She taught us to speak Latvian but as we grew older, we forgot most of our language.

My mother -PHD professor, Ausma Jaunzeme-started the very 1st Baltic Studies Department in USA at Stanford University.

  • Beautiful!

  • @BlackJack11172 kāpēc tad tu raksti angliski, latvieti?

  • The only problem is that you cant translate Latvian text to English, then it is not the same...

  • Красивая песня. Можно хоть раз забыть про политику, люди-то в большинстве своём не виноваты, что такая херня происходит.

  • @PapashaLv

sore, eto pesnja kak raz pro politiku... i protiv russkogo jazika... no eto ponjimajet tolko svoji potomu 4to eto pesnja - eto krik...

  • A Letônia nos brinda com músicas maravilhosas!

  • Šai dziesmai piemīt milzīgs spēks - pietiek noklausīties to laikā, kad patriotisms pret valsti zūd un tanī pašā laikā tas atkal atgriežas, jo latviešu kultūru nevar nemīlēt, dēļ tādām dziesmām kā šī

  • Pilnīgi piekrītu! :)

  • Most fowerfull sounds ever,,,

  • BTW you have to understand that there is huge subtext under every line of this song.

You can understand as you want, but remember that at the time of this sing Latvia was under USSR, so any patriotic message had to be included as subtext.

    For example-

Sing - about the lowly grass

    Sing about the bright beam

    Add some cheap joke.

You can sing about everything you want while you add "cheap joke" as communists ideology.

    That's how I understand it.

  • Very beutiful ! Regards from Lithuania!

  • vnm ir patikuši dziesmu svētki. :))

tik jauki ap sirdi paliek. pati vēl neesmu lielajos piedalījusies, tikai rajonu dziesmu svētkos.

    tgd ar nepacietību gaidu 2013.

Pateicoties Dziesmu svētkiem, es lepojos ar to, ka esmu dzimusi Latvijā.

    *Dievs Svētī Latviju!

  • latvieši vissuperīgākie!!!!!!!!

    :))

  • ideali! :)*

  • This is very good as well. I rated 5 stars.... What, in English, does this mean? Is Latvian like Russian?

  • Latvian is rather different from Slavic languages. It's a protest song from 60-70ies. I'll try to translate some: Song, how will you begin (2x) Begin with a quiet word (2x) Begin with a quiet word Begin with a quite syllable - Your own will understand (2x). That song is a cry. Sing - about the lowly grass (2x) Sing about the bright beam (2x) Sing about the bright beam Add some cheap joke. Your own will understand (3x) That song is a cry.
  • Ok, izdari tā visām dziesmām kā minēju pie "Mana dziesma" video.

  • Ok, lai gan man tie tulkojumi šķiet... nu tādi dikti neveikli :)

  • Latvians are Balts. Russians are Slavs. Try to remember

  • The last verse is:

    "Sing, about pink dreams (x2)

If you're invited to sing, (x2)

    If you're invited to sing,

Sing, even if you are afraid-

    Your own will understand (x2)

    That song is a cry.

  • Also, a bit about Latvian- it's a Baltic language, it's only relative is Lithuanian. The only other major relative was Old Prussian, which is extinct. Baltic languages get their own "branch" on the Indo-European language tree, so to speak, because they're not related to anything else- just like the Germanic languages have their own branch, the Romance languages, the Nordic languages, and the Slavic languages. :) So no, it's not related to Russian. :)

  • russian language has no connection with latvian only some "parasite" words...

  • @studioredproductions No! Latvian is older than Russian. However, like many languages, especially languages that are close geographically, there will be similarities and words that have been borrowed or exchanged. To the uneducated ear they sound similar, but they're not.

  • @furtherdefinitions - right, that would be like saying English is similar to Swedish...or even worse; Latvian is somewhat similar to Lithuanian, but not even those two languages are mutually intelligible

  • @Frederickkruger ..correct, but 'furtherdefintions' is also correct .. the many exchanges across cultures in that area can only lead to language 'borrowing' from those cultures esp when certain technological advancements are made, and the native language has no equivalent.

  • @Frederickkruger blind patriotism/nationalism should not temper with facts. I'm a patriotic Latvian too but to say Latvian is quite different from Slavic languages.... History and cultural ties with Slavic nations have amounted to many Slavic words and sentence structures in Latvian. Of course it's rather different from Slavic but many names are similar either as borrowings from Slavic or just because Baltic and Slavic language groups are closer to each other than say Baltic and Romance languges

  • @lkrnpk baltic and slavic ar closer than celtic to germanic or greek to italic excluding borowings.

  • @lkrnpk it is not true Baltic and Slavic language close. because Slavs and Balts from one branch Indo-Europeans Eastern Corded Ware Culture. all languagesin Europe is group Kentum as Germanic Latin and Celtic, only Slavs and Balts in Europe speak on Satem group language

  • skaisti

  • ah, cik aizgrābjoši.... latvieši tak ir viena ģeniāla tauta!

  • Brīnišķīgi dziesmusvētki un brīnišķīga dziesma!!!

  • jaa ;) piekriitu raitim ;)

  • Ah! 2000! It was so long ago. I wish I could turn back the time.

  • izcili!

šis ir viens no iemesliem, kādēļ Dziesmu svētki NEDRĪKST pazust!

  • It`s 2000 year, i was here!

  • One of my favourite songs ever...

  • Love it!
