you guys would love to call this war vietnam, so you idiots can go home and come in your pants at the fact that you think you can begin to compare these two wars...
If the U.S. gets further into war and our attention is diverted away from the more serious global warming issues for another 8 years, I regret to say that the planet will go into an ice age and we will be plunged into darkness.
we literally have years to react in time or millions will drown.
Great guest! He is so much better than your usual moderate liberals who seem to get their information from CNN, and then pose as skeptical and thoughtful, without actually questioning any assumptions (eg. was the surge successful?).
PS every time I see a "donate now" pop-up in the middle of a video that already starts and ends with a commercial, I'm going to put off donating for another month.
The Shi'ites believe that Mohammad's son-in-law was the rightful leader of Moslems after the prophet died. Sunnis believe the rightful heir was Mohammad's brother.
The division goes back to the days of the companions of the Prophet (p), when Muhammad (p) passed away, the majority of the Muslims gave their pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr, who was widely considered to best amongst the companions but not a blood relative. Certain people (who would come to be known as Shites) believed that leadership be retained via the blood lines of Muhammad (p), namely Ali. This concept is actually alien to Islam, as Ali himself gave pledge to the first, Abu Bakr.
actually ali only gave alliegiance to abu bakr to keep peace and prevent war - remember this is only after the 2 kaffirs abu bakr and umar threatened to burn down ali's house...after they stormed in from the door, hurting fatima and killing her premature baby by crushing her between the wall and door... so ali had little choice BUT give allegiance to keep peace and prevent bloodshed and violence like how his wife experienced...by the way fatima died 6 months after as a result of that event
actually no this concept is not alien to islam - the shia-sunni split has been existent since the death of prophet (1300 years ago) and the concept of succession has been one of the most hotly debated issues since the prophet's death - one that often led to sectarian violence, sectarian war and clashes, persecution, etc. like its occuring in iraq
actually the concept of blood relatives assuming leadership is INDEED a concept of islam and is not alien, it was a concept evident in pre-islamic arabian tribes (son would take over after father's death), but the prophet himself said that the 2 things muslims should folow are quran and ahlulbayt - thereby declaring oficially that the ahlulbayt should take leadership (by which the first leader should have been Imam alsi a.s.)
I'm not too sure where you are getting your facts from, but from what I know, there is no such credible hadith to such effect. But I know hadiths that say to the effect of "follow the Quran and my Sunnah" and not "ahlubayt" as you have said.
I'm not too sure where you are getting your facts from (or those hadiths are probably lies and fabrications), but from what I know, there is no such credible hadith to such effect. But I know hadiths that say to the effect of "follow the Quran and my ahlulbayt" and not the bid'ah you refer to as "sunnah" as you have said.
so either it is a fabrication you are giving me or you are a liar
actually abu bakr was not considered among hte best companions, he was chosen to lead by an elite few in the event known as saqifa, the crimes and sins he committed after the prophet muhammad's death (including the sins he committed at te prophet's time) will lead him to become the second-worst companion the prophet ever had
Obama will have Afghanistan, Pakistan, Darfur, Iran ect.. as well. The false candidate will show his imperialist ways. Look at the hawkish administration he is assembling.

I'd like to know where Ray McGovern got the numbers he just stated "Iraqi deaths in the Tens of Thousands", it's well over a million Iraqis dead, so why is he manipulating the numbers to make it seem not as bad as it is ?
"I'd like to know where Ray McGovern got the numbers he just stated "Iraqi deaths in the Tens of Thousands", it's well over a million Iraqis dead, so why is he manipulating the numbers to make it seem not as bad as it is ?"
Did you listen to him - AT ALL? To make it seem not as bad would be completely contrary to his point. It was probably an error, or he was referring to a specific time period.
I;'m not being "simple", he said what he said, my ears work fine, and I know it contradicts what he was saying, I've watched many interviews with Ray McGovern and I've heard where he stands on these issues, this is why the numbers he gave seemed odd and out of place for him, and look at the date of the video, this wasn't right when the war started this is a couple months ago.
He was refering to the specific time following the surge. He said something I couldn't quite make out about the real number of total deaths. He knows.
The Real News should seriously cut those adds from their videos. I like the idea behind the network, but stop shoving it down my throat! They don't need a TV station. I don't watch TV. I don't own a TV.
This interview demonstrated something: people who know what they're talking about are worth listening to. The Real News mostly just interviews intelligent people. It's a great idea, but it doesn't need cost much money.
Keep up the good work; re-think your business plan.
Most people still get their news from TV and corporate media. The only way to reach the masses currently is through TV. I don't own/watch a TV either, but I still support Real News' efforts to reach a wider audience.
Look at the views for this video - it's currently 2,026 - hardly a huge audience. This kind of quality content needs financial support if it is to survive and thrive.
No people, governments around the world should recognise some fucking responsiblity so we dont end up with UN, EU and big socialist governemts everywhere.
Sorry, but at this point of history it's pretty clear that nationalism and kleinstaaterei doesn't work. The UN was a giant step towards a more just world.
Clashes of power would be even bigger. Have you ever hear of the Big ones. US, China, Russia, GB have a veto right in the UN (quite democratic isn't it) and no one would allow the other to produce nukes. So we're just going back to secrecy. The UN is a peace keeping organisation... not a nuke dispenser.
Neither the U.N. nor any government nor any corporation nor anyone else should be producing or using weapons-grade nuclear materials.
We must work toward a total ban coupled with a program of dismantling all existing nuclear weapons.
Same should apply to bio and chem and ray weapons, land mines, 'conventional' large-scale destructive weapons, 'non-lethal' weapons used for crowd control...
The only weapons that should exist are the very small arms people might want to have for home defense.
Sorry this is a little off the subject. But i did like the part when he admitted that LBJ didnt know what he was getting into. And basically fucked up by even going into Vietnam. According to Wolf Blitzer "the surge" consisted of
of paying 30 million to 100,000 Iraqi "leaders" & Imam's
EACH MONTH. $300.00 a month to each Iraqi leader.
I wonder how many "leaders" were disappeared so
that their $300 could double-dipped. I wonder what
will happen when the $30 million is disappeared?
What will happen when we withdraw & all these
Imams start going crazy w/o their money?
