Since you got a backyard--why dont you build one one of those "Yip Man Movie" in ground dummies! Those are sick and who wouldn't want one of Those? That way you can eliminate the hassle all together!
Also when you drill the "NEW" hoiles this time--make SURE you have 3/8" to 1/2" of play for the arms. THAT MEANS you need the final dimension of the arm FIRST before you make your new holes.
Typical is 1-1/4" SQUARE (so the arms won't roll around when you touch em. Thats right--a Square hole.
BTW-the only hole that goes straight through is the Center arm.

You drilled the holes wrong!
I'ts supposed to be more in the form of a "V" that at some point makes and "X" deep into the post. one hole is on top of the other because they both run through the entire diameter of the post. Thats why traditional dummy arms one is 1/1/2 higher than the other so each can have a separate shaft or hole if you follow my meaning.

I actually woud have overlapped the board in question and made it 7' longer with the same miter (3-1/2') for top and bottom and used two bolts per connection for top and bottom--all the way around the whole structure.
I looked into "Simpson Strong Tie" for a solution but from experience they wouldn't work for this application. Bolts are your friend. Not Wood bolts either.Machine bolts with a nut and 2 washers. That way you wont comprimise the structure of the wood at all. Just predrill the holles and torque away with a ratchet. Those triangles will only get you so far in terms of durability.

All you need to do is get a board, a pencil and your brother and with board removed have bro hold the board tightly on outside of mid and lower support. YOU scribe a nice line at top and bottom. Cut then it will be perfect.
2)TOO MANY SCREWS at one location. You actually weakened that part of the board.
