Tip for new mages, use multiple tabs by swapping them with shift+1/2/3/4 and put different spells in them.

Primary spells in tab 1, tab 2 a blink,polymorph, some AOE and I also have Frostfirebolt in case of brainfreeze

Tab 3 I have icy veins, spellsteal and ice barrier, there are more but not very important

I have trinkets and talent skills such as counterspell and deep freeze keybinded on a action bar.

The binds I use are ` G F and J

When I made the video, you couldn't cast frostfirebolt with brain freeze. Now it depends on your crit rate. Fireballs will still hit harder, frostfirebolts will crit harder. If the target is frozen or you have FoF up cast FFB, otherwise fireball is probably slightly better for most people (unless you want the FFB snare).

4:24 you should cast a second frostbolt followed by 2 ice lances so 4 shatters with 2 fingers of frost ^^, and also in the pvp spec you should put the 2 points in artic winds to frost warding, to increase your armor when you have ice armor and regen mana agaist fire-frost mages, warlocks, dks and shamans with frost and fire ward

GCD is affected by haste (someone check if this holds in cata, I just realized I haven't actually tested it), I have a decent amount of passive haste + Icy veins = spamlance.

@Ka1igon no, fingers of frost now allow shatter only to deep freeze and ice lance, no frostbolt :(, but molten armor, arcane barrage, arcane blast, ice lance and water elemental (without duration) at such a low lvl is AMAZING!, plus mage ward wich now absorbs arcane dmg in addition to frost and fire in just 1 spell, no 2 (fire ward, frost ward), and frostbolt 2 sec cast + first talent at frost tree wich reduces it's cast time by 0.7 wich means 1.3 sec cast frostbolt in addition to your haste...

@greatman63 with the netherwind presence talent from arcane tree (+3% haste), mirror image 30 sec duration instead of 20, blazing speed talent and bushback reduction talent by 70% from fire, time warph ability (85 lvl) like bloodlust, frost specialization (+25% dmg), but no double crit dmg with ice shards talent :(

@zyamix taking that us mages will become extremely OP come cata launch, might be useful to level one up, however this also makes us prone to nerfing, and if you played classic youll remember that mages were constantly being nerfed, nonetheless mage will probably turn out to be a very good class, as they have been since classic.

@TheExtremeAndreas Not Frost Mage. They are the most mana-efficient of all types of mage. Generally, when I do 1v1 I never run out of mana except in rare occasions against priest. However, in BG you could run easily out of mana after 1 minute if you throw a bunch of blizzards but don't worry mages got mana gems, mana evocation and all of his vending machine advantages :D.

When you instant cast fireball, i have always heard to instant cast frostfire bolt. it usually crits harder than fireball, at least for me it does. most mage guides dont mention a secret i found out, the reason why is its cause it is a little secret, but if you want to slow down a target but dont have enough time to cast a regular frost bolt, use rank 1 which cast really fast. so you can slow a target really fast from far away which has saved my ass alot in arena cast rank one and switchtargets

When I made the video Brain Freeze only worked with fireball. If the target is frozen or you have fingers of frost or if you want to slow the target, Brain Freeze a frostfirebolt. If you don't have FoF and the target isn't frozen, Fireball will still average to more damage though.

Everything in this video is 100% default Blizzard. I turned off all addons when I filmed it. If you have a non-widescreen monitor you have to go to the video options menu, check "Use UI scale" and move the slider bar right to make the bar smaller (at this point you'll be able to see the Griffins, which I assume are what you thought looked different about my bars).

It sure does, watch it in high definition and you can see the COC snare debuff go up every time (near the end of the video I even highlight it). I cut it extremely close to steal those extra few milliseconds to get further away from the target.
