  • you killed it...great playing...great amp.....that was a wow vid....

  • enough watts to do small gigs?

  • @21aap

Definitely, even for not so small one, the amp is very loud and has a lot of clean headroom!

    Cheers!!

  • SLAYER!!!!

  • i just can't help falling in love with this amp I need to buy it, i guess it's an excellent amp for hardrock (guns n roses,ac/dc style) and trash metal? (metallica, skidrow, megadeth style) i just love the amp... btw with what mic you recorded it?

  • @21aap gnr and acdc works, just not 100% perfect (6L6 power tubes, all these guys used marshalls with EL34's), thrash perfect. this amp especially nails the modern thrash sounds perfectly (kreators newer stuff, testament) and the solo sound is just stunning!

  • Do you like the thunder or the screamer better?

  • the problem with guys like you doing demos is that you can make anything sound great! A guy like me brings this amp home to mom and it sounds like s%#t...great playing...oh yea, the amp sounds good too

  • Great playing and great tones. Only demo I've seen someone cover all the tone capabilities of an amp. Long story short, best amp demo ever. Period.

  • Hey Koliok, this is a great demo! I have question about reverb. Is this amp so less worthed without it? Is it so much better to take it with reverb or is it also good without it, cause price is pretty much different

  • Hey koliok, great playing. I really apreciated the demo! What guitar did you use?

  • @Zombiekeks

Hi, thanks!!!¨Its Gibson Les Paul Standard!

    Cheers!!

  • excelent playing!

  • whats the difference between this one and the thunder 50 drive?

  • @hondansx1000 the drive one has no reverb and an additional volume control for the crunch channel

  • ei maina i ot pave saund 6a izkara6!!!! o6te si si nomer 1!

  • @kutrov

Mersi druze, radwam se da te widia tuk, dano po skoro se zasechem i na ziwo!!!!

  • @koliok

  • Excellent sound and very very good playing. It's good to see a good review with good playing.

  • Wow!!! Nice and I mean nice tones and hella crunch,, nice playing too!

  • Finally someone who can really play!! Awesome chops man and that amp sounds killer too! Cheers for the video!

  • is it loud enough to play with a loud drummer ? Thx,

  • @valijul , it's 50 watts from a tube amp, dumbass. Turn it up and it will blow you and your drummer out of the frigging house.

  • Бат' Кольо, направо избиваш рибата с тоя Engl! Интересно, че става хем за метъл, хем за доста по леки неща. Жалко, че няма къде да се изпробва в БГ...

  • @kirilpe i think so, yes ;DDD

  • fuck, after watching this demo and hearing slayer riffs through this plus how nicely it cleans up, i want this amp!

  • Greetings you can prompt what differences between thunder and screamer?

  • dead ... skin .... MASK!!!

  • That depends on what you like better. I use to play for a while with Fireball, was to aggressive for me. Its a metal amp (IMHO)

    Cheers!!!

  • should i get this amp or a amp head engl fireball ?

  • is there any difference at drive channel between thunder and screamer?

  • Are you using the stock speaker? And which power tubes are you using - 5881's or 6L6's? Any suggestions for good tube combinations or speaker upgrades? Thanks

  • metal churck at 3:28? :D also NICE AMP!!

  • @Shitto

It was supposed to be Slayer, or what I remember of it :-). Cheers!!!

  • I was thinking, will this amp offer excactly what I need, if I apply the right distortion pedal? A simple, versatile amp, with decent reverb aswell?

  • @peterne999999999

I like the reverb of the Thunder really a lot. Check this video if you want youtube.com/watch?v=M2D47zF8mRA , the amp its set on clean and the reverb could be heard relatively good

  • i gonna get this amp for christmas

  • Nice sounding amp and nice playing. Seems like both you and the amp are very versatile! Have you ever driven a 2X12 or 4X12 cab with it? Is the demo done with the stock 80 watt Celestion?

  • man you can shred very well, youve got super clean picking wht kind of pickups you using in this vid? an giutar?

  • Hi, is this a versatile amp? because i was thinking of buying this amp can it handle: Muse, paramore, greenday, jimmy eat world, joan jett (that style of music(mid 70's rock music i guess),nirvana, foo fighters, rise against, kings of leon,...

other options are a blackstar ht-40 or a fender hot rod deluxe(but i think that this one is a little to soft for some of this music)

  • @kingske555

Hi, the amp has very nice distortion and great clean channel (especially with the right tubes). But considering that the gain control is sheared on both clean and distortion, I don't think its very versatile amp :-(

From this point of view, I think Blackstar HT-40 would be better for you. I don't like very much the clean channel there, but it still OK and has separated controls.

  • @koliok The shared gain surely limits the versatility. But since it has 3 channels, doesn't that make up for it? I mean can you go from the clean to lead and go from a pretty clean sound to a hi gain one?

  • @mariosapm

Yes it does, the only problem is when one wants to have really clean clean channel and in the same time maximal gain on the lead one. That doesn't really work without manual readjustment

  • @kingske555

I just forgot to add that with additional boost pedal on the drive channel, one can pretty much achieve full range of distortion sounds and still have very nice clean sounds. The amp stays absolutely clean when the gain control is on 11 o clock for single coils and on 10 for PAFS. On the drive channel that gives serious gain already, but with additional booster (i like BB preamp, or Maxon OD9 in this case) the amp can produce really high gain sounds, without further adjusting

  • @koliok I guess i'm going to test that

    thanks for your help

  • @kingske555 Sorry, I know he's already told you, but I'll make a recommendation.

The Peavey 6505 EVH is extremely versatile. It goes from pretty much all types of metal, to most types of rock, and I'm pretty sure it would do punk great.

I'd check that out. You might also want to try the Peavey 5150. It's cheaper. I haven't actually demoed it, but it might do what you want for cheaper.

  • @kingske555 , just listen and shut up.

  • impressive amp, and great playing too, you seem to like many different styles

  • @kingske555 holy fucking shit if you think an ENGL is soft and a fender hot rod deluxe isnt wtf!...hot rod deluxe cant even get into metal territory or epic crunch..i know you psoted this 10 months ago but jesus! The has epic distortion its an ENGL for god sake.

  • @1withguitar i meant that the last one (the hot rod) was a little to soft in comparisson with the other two amps

    ;)

  • @kingske555 probably not exactly your amp then, engls are pretty metal biased. you can get all those sounds from it, and out of the 3 it would sure be the best. but a marshall jvm 215 could be perfect for you, tons of options on it, and classic marshall sound. i personally love engls, but it could be too modern sounding for what you play.

  • Excelent demo and playing! Can a conventional footswitch be used with this amp to engage the overdrive? Also what guitar did you use here?

  • nice playing man !!!

but is this the thunder 322 or thunder 320 ?

  • @nexarulhunexarulhu

    thanks :-)

    Its a Thunder 320

  • Nice playing. I get the impression that the reverb on the Engl combos is not in the league of say the great old Fender spring reverb units - does that sound right?

Also: somewhere you said the main improvement with the Screamer as compared to the Thunder was that the Screamer has better channel switching. Could someone please elaborate on that? What does that translate to in gigging terms?

  • Hi , I got this amp 2 . When our band has a rehearsal the drums are always very loud , wich volume setting (Lead volume / Master) would you advise for a rehearsal?

    Greets ;)

  • What's your signal chain for the recording?

I just picked one of these up and love the clarity you're getting from it here, awesome demo.

  • would you recommend this to a thrash player? from what ive heard in this video and other reviews its perfect for me haha Nice Playing by the way

  • @JDLMetalHead

Hi, I am a bit out of date with trash :-), but I definitely think so

  • @JDLMetalHead Get the Fireball 100W

  • How's the quality/construction of these amps? Thanks!

  • @EpiphoneSH4

Hi, as far as I can tell, the construction is very sturdy. I am giging al the time with the Screamer, it never lets me down. One need to be only careful, not to move the amp until its not cooled down a bit

  • I think u can make any amp sound good lol . Great demo, off to your screamer demo

  • Good Démo Man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can you use the amp at home playing quiet or will it always be to loud? your master control seems to be set to a very low level, do play at bedroom level in this video?

  • @intermediate007

Actually , thats what I use the amp for (playing at home), i have another ENGL in the bands car. You can play with this amp very very quiet and still have very decent sound. On the video, the master is set almost to zero, of course, if turn it a bit louder, only gets better. Yesterday I gigged with the amp without micing, sound was gorges with master on 12 o clock

    Greetings

  • suena casi igual que el screamer

  • Sounds nice.

  • Excelente sonido! ¿Que guitarra usaste en esta grabación? ¿Algún efecto?

    Tocas muy bien!

    Salud y Suerte!

  • Awesome demo, engl has an mazing sound. By the way your a very good guitarist!!

  • Very nice amp.

I'd like to know if it has an integrated volume boost activable with the footswitch.

I'm talking about only VOLUME boost and not about GAIN boost.

    Thanks.

  • @comunistarock

No, it has no volume boost, the Screamer has something similar

  • I'm impressed by the amp sound and by the guitarist as well. Great job ! I will soon get my Thunder 50 too. I can't wait to play on it !

  • The sounds you get from this amp with such an industry standard typical microphone are phenomenal. I need to hear EMGs through this beastly thing and I know I will be crying with happy.

  • Just bought the head version on eBay man! Hopefully I'll get to play it by next Wednesday.

  • @kothet0

Hope that you already have it, enjoy :-)

  • Sounds really great, five stars from me

  • This is probably the best review on the Engl Thunder! Awesome tone and chops!

  • @kothet0

Thanks a lot man, glad to hear it :-)

  • The sound of this amp is realy realy nice...thx to post a good video!

  • What pickups?

  • Burstbuckers Pro

  • what guitar did you do the test with?

  • Gibson LP Standard

  • Evil little amp!! Great tone/playing!

    Cheers, K!

  • Thanks :-)

  • @koliok Whats name song in 2:57 min.

  • @MGPaarh

Its South of Heaven , Slayer 88 and than starts another one of Slayer. I am just playing something :-)
