Jack if you are still around you did a good job three years ago ivesting in gold and silver. Now are you doing anything else to protect yourself. The gold and silver has to be worth at least 3 times the amount in value. What about food are you stocking up just in case?
It seems like people were tougher in those days. I think a lot of people wouldn't know how to handle a depression in the 21st Century. They're too accustomed to modern conveniences.
Obama isn't helping matters, you don't give a company like AIG billions of dollars, they tear through it then give them billions more of tax payer money. YOU DON'T REWARD FAILURE IDIOT.
This coming depression has the potential for being "worse" than the great depression of 1929. Here is the reason: Back in 1929 our money was backed by gold and silver. It is backed by "nothing" but faith in the federal government now. Although most people had very little money in 1929, "cash was king" and it had real value. TODAY paper money is just that "paper". The government will just print more & more paper money to cover these "bail-out" plans, causing a massive inflationary depression.
I heard a theory that the depression was started partially on purpose to give the country just what he was talking about-recruits for the military. The military industrial complex brought the country out of the depression, but did it start it too? I'm looking at what is going on in the middle east and the manipulations after 9/11 and I wonder if that is a valid point.
Think of the last digit of each year now as equal to its equivalent in the 1920's. In 1925 (and 2005) the housing market peaked in Miami. Stocks are being bid up relentlessly in 2007 (as in 1927). Will it crack in 2009? I sure hope Giuliani is president if it does, because he's a friggin' genius when it comes to turning economies around. Feel free to read sarcasm into that.
I agree. I think a greater depression is inevitable. I'm investing in silver and gold and am growing my own food. All my neighbors laugh at me, but in a year, or maybe even less, they'll be knocking on my door. I hope Ron Paul gets elected. We need someone like him who is well versed on economics.
Thank you so much for sharing a bit of your life experience..what a wonderful story! (Although, I'm sure at the time you didn't feel it was wonderful at the time) I notice that your video is relatively new..PLEASE "youtube" geriatric1927..you have so much in common!
Reminds me of my great great aunt Ethel. She was 102 I think when she died. She would always tell stories about her life. One was about when she wrecked a truck or the wheel fell off and hadn't driven since.
How did I miss this one?? My parents went through the depressio and were lucky enough to have had jobs! MY mother, however, turned into a very frugal person--saving paper towels & teabags! I should have learned from her, but didn't!! These stories are priceless!5 stars!
Thanks so much for your channel. It reminds me of my 89 yr-old grandmother who just passed and miss SO terribly. I know the last 100 years of my family history b/c of her endless stories. There's no price to put on the wisdom of our elders.
You ended on a cliffhanger!!! I get so caught up in loving Les that forget to wish you well! I hope things are good for you Ginger and that the house is not to empty without your Dad. I think of you often and hope your ok. It is amazing how close you can feel to someone you have never met and barely spoken to! xo
Thank you for asking ... yes, the house seems empty without Dad, but I'm getting used to it. I changed some of the furniture in the living room, so I don't miss him as much when I go in there. (For a whole month, I avoided the living room!) There is now a desk where the blue chair used to be.
Times where different then.. but it can all happen again! What annoys me these days is when very profitable companies move abroad where the labour is cheaper, in order to make even more profits.. profit is a good thing, but it should not be the one cause.. Anyway, I got carried way there.. apologies.. Great video as always, it gives us who have the pleasure of watching it a greater understanding of times past..
I agree, we need a monetary reform because we will see another depression. Current US dept is at 45tril... when we can no longer afford the interest we will see ourselves back to 1929 conditions.
he went thru a tough times and it is what most of americans have to be ready for today is not yet worse but certantly the time is approaching

@inkey2 They also lived on farms and were much more rural, so they could fend for themselves better.

Actually no, the U.S. Military during the 1930s was the 5th smallest in the world.

@ItsFazsha I can't imagine if Obama is in charge during the depression he certainly has no idea what he is even doing during this recession.

Coming THE Second GREAT DEPRESSION in soon?
DeafShare 4 years ago
The Great Depression was not the only depression in U.S. history. 1840 to 1860 was a downturn of similar proportions. The result was the Civil War.
Depressions are a normal part of the economic cycle. They occur on average every 70 years or so.
